FAFSA email verification not working - verification codes never arrive

Been trying all day to set up our FAFSA accounts for my daughter's college applications, and we're completely stuck at the email verification page. We've tried using both my email and my daughter's email addresses, but neither of us are receiving the verification codes they're supposedly sending. I've checked spam folders, waited over 3 hours, and even tried creating accounts on different devices. Nothing works! Has anyone else had this problem with the studentaid.gov verification emails not coming through? Is the FAFSA system glitching? The application deadline for priority consideration at her top school is coming up fast, and I'm starting to panic.

same here!!! its been 2 days and i still cant get ANY emails from them. tried my gmail, hotmail, AND my work email. nothing works. this is ridiculous!

At least I'm not alone in this nightmare. Have you tried calling their support line? I'm about to, but dreading the wait times I've heard about.

This is a common issue with the new 2025-2026 FAFSA system. A few things to try: 1. Add noreply@studentaid.gov to your contacts/safe senders list 2. Try using a completely different email provider (if you used Gmail, try Outlook or vice versa) 3. Temporarily disable any email filters you might have 4. Wait 24 hours and try again - sometimes their system is just backed up In my experience with helping students, about 70% of verification issues get resolved with one of these fixes, particularly adding the email to contacts.

Thanks for these suggestions! I'm trying the safe senders list right now. Do you know if they're having any known system-wide issues currently? The FAFSA website isn't showing any alerts.

They rarely acknowledge system issues publicly, but from what I've seen in various financial aid forums, there's definitely been an uptick in verification email problems over the last week. If none of those fixes work by tomorrow, you might need to contact them directly.

I had this EXACT problem three weeks ago when helping my son with his FAFSA! We ended up having to use his university email address which worked immediately. Apparently some email providers get blocked or filtered by their system. Worth trying a different email entirely!

That's really helpful - we'll try my daughter's school email account. Fingers crossed that works!

Financial aid advisor here - this is unfortunately a recurring issue with the FAFSA system. A few additional things to try: 1. Clear your browser cache and cookies completely 2. Try a different browser entirely 3. Access the site through a different network (mobile data instead of home WiFi) 4. If you've been trying a while, wait 24 hours before trying again as there's a lockout period If those don't work, you'll need to contact Federal Student Aid directly. Their phone support is overwhelmed right now with the new FAFSA rollout. The official number is 1-800-433-3243, but be prepared for very long wait times.

I had to call them last week about a different FAFSA issue and was on hold for OVER 2 HOURS before I gave up. There has to be a better way to reach them! Does anyone know if you can get help through your school's financial aid office instead?

OMG the FAFSA system is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE this year!! I've been dealing with this exact issue plus about 6 other problems since they launched the "simplified" version. Can't get verification emails, can't add schools properly, contributor section keeps crashing, SAI calculation makes no sense... I've spent WEEKS trying to get through this process that's supposed to be easier! And good luck getting any actual help when you call.

I feel ur pain! took me forever to finish ours too. not sure who designed this new system but they certainly never tested it with real people lol

UPDATE: We finally got it working! Combining several suggestions from this thread: 1. Added noreply@studentaid.gov to contacts 2. Used my daughter's .edu email address from her high school 3. Tried on a completely different device (our iPad instead of laptops) 4. Made sure to use Chrome instead of Safari Not sure which of these actually fixed it, but we got the verification email within seconds this time. Now onto the actual application... wish us luck with the rest of this process!

Great news! Glad you got it working. For the actual application, make sure you have all your tax information ready, including any W-2 forms. The new FAFSA has a different approach to calculating the Student Aid Index (SAI), so the numbers might look different than you expect from previous years.

thx for posting what worked!! gonna try the .edu email trick tomorrow!

My cousin had this same problem but it turned out her dad had already started an application and used her email, so when she tried to make her own account it was conflicting with the existing one. Might be worth checking if anyone else in your family has already used those email addresses somehow?

Just wanted to add another potential solution that worked for a friend of mine - if you're using any ad blockers or privacy extensions in your browser, try temporarily disabling them. Some of these tools can interfere with the FAFSA site's email verification process. Also, if you have a VPN running, disconnect it before trying again. The FAFSA system can be really picky about these things. Hope this helps someone else who's struggling with this frustrating issue!
