FAFSA application stuck in review since January - no parent signature option showing

I'm completely frustrated with the FAFSA system this year! My daughter's application has been stuck 'in review' since January 7th and I still can't add my signature because that option isn't even showing up. We submitted everything but now it's just sitting there with an 'incomplete information' status. The studentaid.gov dashboard won't let me see what's missing! Anyone else dealing with this signature problem? I thought everything was supposed to start processing in March, but we can't even get past this signature roadblock. What's everyone else's experience been with the 2025-2026 application? Should I just start over with a new application or will that make things worse?

Exact same issue here! My son's application has been 'under review' since January 12th, and I can't find where to add my signature anywhere. Called the FAFSA hotline 8 times and never got through to an actual person. I'm worried because his college priority deadline is coming up soon. Just keeps saying 'incomplete information' but doesn't say WHAT information!!

It's maddening, right? Did you try clicking on the "View SAI Report" button? That's where I thought I might find more details, but it just says "not available until processing is complete" for me. Have you told your son's school financial aid office about this issue?

This is definitely related to the system-wide issues they're having with the new FAFSA rollout. Two things to try: 1. Log in separately as the parent contributor with your own FSA ID (not your student's account) 2. Once logged in as parent, look for "Applications" in the menu, then "Check Status" 3. There should be a link saying "Complete Parent Portion" if you haven't signed yet If you don't see that option, clear your browser cache completely or try a different browser. Some parent signature pages aren't displaying correctly in Chrome specifically. DON'T start over with a new application - that will definitely make things worse and put you at the back of the queue.

Thank you for this detailed advice! I actually did try logging in with my separate parent FSA ID but I don't see any "Complete Parent Portion" link anywhere. I'll try clearing my cache and using Firefox instead of Chrome. Really hoping this works because we're approaching my daughter's priority deadline at her top choice school.

OMG the new FAFSA is THE WORST!!! Been stuck since December and nobody can help. The schools keep telling us to be patient but HOW PATIENT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO BE??? My kid might miss out on first-round scholarships because of this stupid system!!

I understand your frustration. For scholarship concerns, contact your college's financial aid office directly. Many schools have contingency plans for FAFSA delays this year and are extending priority deadlines. Get documentation from studentaid.gov showing your submission date as proof you submitted on time.

I finally managed to resolve this exact issue last week after trying for nearly a month! The problem is that the parent signature page doesn't consistently appear in the parent dashboard. After calling FSA for days (always disconnected), I found Claimyr.com which got me through to an actual FSA agent in about 20 minutes. The agent manually verified my identity and processed my signature over the phone. You can see how it works in their demo video: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Three days after that call, our application finally moved from "in review" to "processing" and now shows all signatures are complete. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for sharing! I hadn't heard of this service before but at this point I'll try anything. Did they ask a lot of verification questions when you got through? I'm just wondering what information I should have ready before I call.

Yes, have your FSA ID, the student's social security number, and your own social ready. They'll also ask verification questions like addresses and DOB to confirm identities. The agent was super helpful and understood exactly what the signature issue was - apparently it's happening to thousands of parents. Best of luck!

my daughter had same problem but we fixed it by going back to contribution page and clicking update even tho nothing changed. then the signature option suddenly showed up after that. weird system glitch maybe try that?

Thanks for the suggestion! Where exactly did you find the contribution page? When I log in as the parent, I just see a dashboard that shows the application status, but no way to actually access the application itself.

The whole FAFSA thing is a disaster this year. I work at a college financial aid office (won't say which one), and we're seeing this issue with about 40% of our applicants. The parent signature component is completely glitched in the system. When you call the Federal Student Aid line, ask specifically for a "manual parent signature verification" - that's the internal term they use. They can add your signature on their end.

Of course the SYSTEM is broken. Why am I not surprised?? They had EXTRA TIME to fix everything and still rolled out complete garbage. And now our kids might miss scholarships because of THEIR incompetence!

I understand your frustration. If your student has scholarship deadlines approaching, have them contact the scholarship providers directly. Most major scholarship programs are aware of the FAFSA issues and many are offering extensions or provisional awards pending FAFSA completion. Just make sure to document all your attempts to complete the FAFSA.

For everyone experiencing the missing parent signature issue, here's the official workaround from Federal Student Aid: 1. Both the student and parent should log out of their accounts 2. Clear browser cache and cookies completely 3. The STUDENT should log in first 4. Navigate to the FAFSA form and click "View Processed FAFSA" 5. On that page, look for "Update Parent Information" 6. Click that link, which should trigger an email invitation to the parent 7. Parent should then use that email link (not log in separately) This bypasses the glitched direct parent signature portal. If this doesn't work, you'll need to contact FSA directly for manual signature verification. Hope this helps everyone!

Thank you for these specific steps! Just tried this, but unfortunately when my daughter logs in and clicks "View Processed FAFSA" it says "Your FAFSA form is not yet processed." Looks like we might be stuck with having to call FSA directly for that manual signature verification. I appreciate the detailed information though!

Wait are we supposed to be filling out for 2025-2026 already? I thought we were still doing 2024-2025??

The current FAFSA application cycle is for 2024-2025 academic year. The 2025-2026 FAFSA won't open until October 2024. The original poster likely meant the 2024-2025 application that's currently available.

Yes, sorry for the confusion! I meant the 2024-2025 application. Getting my years mixed up with all the stress from this process!

Quick update for everyone on this thread: Federal Student Aid just announced on their Twitter account yesterday that they've identified the parent signature bug and are rolling out a fix this week. They recommend NOT creating a new application, but instead waiting for the fix. If your deadline is imminent, they suggest having your school financial aid office submit a case number through their professional portal. This should prioritize your application.

This is really helpful information! I'll contact my daughter's financial aid office tomorrow to see if they can submit that case number. Do you know if there's anything specific I should ask them to do? Should I be getting some kind of confirmation number from them?

0 coins

Yes, ask them specifically for a "FAFSA Signature Exception Request" and make sure they give you a case confirmation number. Keep that number for your records. Some schools are also providing temporary confirmation letters that you can use for scholarship applications while waiting for the official FAFSA to process.
