Why is the Washington ESD unemployment office closed today - need help ASAP
Drove all the way to the Tacoma WorkSource office this morning to get help with my claim and it's completely closed! No signs explaining why, website doesn't say anything about closures. I've been trying to reach someone at Washington ESD for two weeks about my adjudication status and this was supposed to be my last resort. Does anyone know what's going on? Are all the offices closed today for some reason I missed?

Check if it's a state holiday - Washington has some obscure ones that aren't federal holidays. Also WorkSource offices sometimes close for staff training days without much notice.

•I checked the state holiday calendar and today isn't listed. This is so frustrating when you're already dealing with claim issues.

•Same thing happened to me last month. Drove 45 minutes just to find a handwritten note on the door.

Washington ESD offices have been reducing in-person hours significantly. Most claim issues need to be handled by phone now anyway. What specific adjudication problem are you dealing with? Might be able to point you in the right direction.

•My claim has been stuck in adjudication for 3 weeks with no explanation. I've called dozens of times but can never get through to an actual person.

•That's the biggest problem right there - getting through to Washington ESD by phone is nearly impossible with their current call volume.

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD by phone, I recently discovered this service called Claimyr that actually gets you connected to agents. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me hours of calling attempts.

•How does that work exactly? Is it legit or just another scam?

•It's completely legitimate - they basically handle the calling process for you so you don't have to sit there hitting redial all day. Really helped when I needed to check on my pending payment status.

•At this point I'm willing to try anything. The traditional methods clearly aren't working.

Most Washington ESD business can be done online through your SecureAccess Washington account anyway. Why do you need to go in person?
0 coins
Aria Park
•Because my online account just shows 'adjudication in progress' with zero details about what they need from me or how long it will take.

•The online system is pretty limited for complex issues. Sometimes you really do need to talk to a human.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A JOKE!!! They make it impossible to reach anyone then act surprised when people show up angry at their offices. I've been waiting 6 weeks for my disqualification appeal to be reviewed.

•I feel your pain. The lack of communication is the worst part - you're just left wondering what's happening with your money.

•Appeals are handled by a different department and typically take 4-8 weeks. I know that doesn't help your immediate situation though.

You might want to contact your state representative's office. They sometimes have direct lines to Washington ESD for constituent services and can check on claim status.

•That's actually a really good idea I hadn't considered. Do they really help with unemployment issues?

•Yes, especially if you've been waiting an unreasonable amount of time. They can't change decisions but they can get information about delays.

Maybe try calling right at 8am when they open? I've heard that's your best shot at getting through.

•I've tried that - still get the busy signal or the automated message saying call volume is too high.

Olivia Harris
•That's exactly why I ended up using Claimyr. Even calling at 8am sharp wasn't working for me consistently.

Check the Washington ESD website for office closures. Sometimes they post last-minute notices there that don't make it to other places.

•I did check and there's nothing posted. It's like they just decided not to open without telling anyone.

This happened to me too but it turned out the office had moved locations and I was at the old address. Double check that you have the current address.

Aria Park
•I got the address directly from the Washington ESD website so it should be correct. But I'll double check just in case.

•Good point - they've been consolidating offices and some locations have changed recently.

For adjudication issues specifically, you really need to speak with a claims examiner. They're the only ones who can tell you what documentation is needed or what's causing the delay. In-person visits usually just redirect you to call anyway.

•So basically I'm stuck in an endless loop of trying to call and never getting through?

James Martinez
•Unfortunately that's been the reality for most people. The phone system is completely overwhelmed.

I had success reaching Washington ESD through their online message system. Takes 3-5 business days to get a response but at least you get an actual answer.

Aria Park
•I tried that too but they just sent me a generic response telling me to call the customer service number.

•Ugh, that's useless. The whole system needs an overhaul.

Try going to a different WorkSource location if possible. Sometimes one office is closed while others are open normally.

•The next closest one is about an hour away. I might have to make that drive if I can't get through by phone.

Seriously though, if you're spending this much time and gas money trying to reach Washington ESD, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier is worth checking out. At least you'd know you're going to actually talk to someone instead of wasting more trips to closed offices.

•How much does something like that cost though? I'm unemployed for a reason.

•I think it's pretty reasonable considering the time you save, but check their website for current info. For me it was worth it to get my issue resolved quickly.

Maybe call ahead next time to make sure they're open? Though I guess that defeats the purpose if you can't get through by phone anyway lol

Aria Park
•Right? If I could call and get through I wouldn't need to visit in person!

This is exactly why people get so frustrated with the unemployment system. You need help, you can't call, you can't visit, you can't get answers online. What are we supposed to do???

•It's especially hard when you're already stressed about money and bills. The system adds insult to injury.

Noah Ali
•I understand the frustration but they are dealing with unprecedented claim volumes. The system wasn't designed for this many people needing help simultaneously.

Keep trying the phone number but also document everything - dates you called, times you visited, what happened. If your claim gets denied you might need that information for an appeal.

Aria Park
•Good advice. I've been keeping a log of my attempts to contact them. Hopefully I won't need it for an appeal though.

Same thing happened to my neighbor last week. She drove to three different offices before finding one that was open. Apparently they're having staffing issues.

•That's ridiculous. How are we supposed to know which offices are actually open on any given day?

UPDATE: I just checked and today is actually a state government training day that affects some Washington ESD locations. It's not a public holiday which is why it wasn't widely announced. This might explain the closure.

Aria Park
•Thank you for checking on that! At least now I know I'm not going crazy. Still frustrating they don't post these things more clearly.

•They should really send out notifications about office closures to people with active claims.

Try again tomorrow but honestly your best bet is still going to be getting through by phone or using one of those callback services people have mentioned.

•Yeah I think I'm going to look into that Claimyr thing. This whole experience has been such a waste of time and gas money.

•Smart choice. I wish I had found out about it sooner instead of wasting weeks trying to get through the normal way.

At least you found out it was closed before waiting in line for hours. Last time I went to an office I waited 3 hours just to be told they couldn't help with my specific issue.

Aria Park
•That would have been even more frustrating! This whole system really needs to be redesigned from the ground up.

Hope you get your adjudication resolved soon. Three weeks is way too long to be waiting without any communication about what's needed.

•Thanks, I really appreciate the support. Going to try the callback service route and see if that finally gets me some answers.
