Why does my Washington ESD unemployment say progress - what does this mean?
My unemployment claim status just changed to show 'progress' but I have no idea what this means. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like I always do and now instead of showing pending or paid it just says progress. Is this good or bad? Should I be worried? I've been getting my benefits for 2 months with no issues until now. Anyone else see this status before?

i think progress just means theyre processing your weekly claim, mine does that sometimes

•How long does it usually take to go from progress to paid? I need to know if I should expect my deposit this week.

•usually just a day or two in my experience

Progress status typically indicates that Washington ESD is reviewing your weekly claim submission. This can happen for several reasons: if you answered differently on one of your weekly questions, if there's a flag for verification, or if they're doing routine quality checks. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean your payment might be delayed while they review.

•I don't think I answered anything differently. Maybe I accidentally clicked the wrong thing? Can I fix that somehow?

•You can't edit a submitted weekly claim, but if it was just a minor error they'll usually catch it during review. If it's something more significant, they'll contact you.

Had the same thing happen last month. Turned out Washington ESD was verifying my job search activities. They wanted to see my job search log even though I'd been filing for weeks without issues. The progress status lasted about 5 days before it switched to paid. If you need to reach someone at Washington ESD about this, I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an agent quickly. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Five days?? I can't wait that long, I have rent due. What exactly is Claimyr?

•It's a service that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents without sitting on hold forever. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - got connected to someone in about 20 minutes instead of calling all day.

•That sounds too good to be true. How much does it cost?

PROGRESS STATUS IS THE WORST!! I've been stuck in progress for over a week now and nobody at Washington ESD will tell me what's wrong. I've called hundreds of times and either get hung up on or told to wait. This system is completely broken and they don't care that people need their money to survive!

•A week is definitely too long. There might be an issue with your claim that needs to be resolved. Have you checked your account for any notices or required actions?

•I've checked everything multiple times. No notices, no pending issues, nothing. Just progress forever.

same thing happened to me but it was because I worked a few hours and reported it wrong

•I didn't work any hours though. I've been unemployed since getting laid off in December.

Here's what I'd recommend: log into your SecureAccess Washington account and check your claim summary page. Look for any alerts, notices, or required actions. Also check your correspondence inbox for any messages from Washington ESD. Sometimes they send requests for information that aren't immediately obvious.

•Just checked and there's nothing in my correspondence. No alerts or notices either. This is so frustrating.

•If there's truly nothing showing up, you definitely need to call and speak to someone. The automated system won't help with this.

I work with unemployment claims and progress status usually means one of three things: 1) They're verifying your job search activities, 2) There's a wage discrepancy they're checking, or 3) You're in a random audit queue. The good news is that if it's just verification, you'll likely get backpaid once it's resolved.

•How can I find out which one it is? And how long do these usually take?

•You'll need to speak with an agent to find out the specific reason. Timeline varies but usually 3-7 business days for standard verification.

•Good luck getting through to an agent though. I've been trying for days.

This is exactly why I used Claimyr when I had my progress status issue. Instead of calling all day and getting nowhere, I got connected to an agent who explained what was happening and what I needed to do. Saved me days of frustration and uncertainty.

•How does Claimyr actually work? Do they just call for you?

Michael Adams
•They have a system that monitors when Washington ESD phone lines are less busy and connects you at optimal times. Much better than just randomly calling and hoping.

Progress status could also mean you're being transferred to a different claim type or there's an issue with your base period wages. I had this happen when Washington ESD realized I had wages from a previous job that weren't initially included in my claim.

•I only had one job before getting laid off. Could that still be an issue?

Joshua Wood
•Possibly, especially if there were any discrepancies in what your employer reported versus what you reported.

•Don't worry about it until it happens. Progress status is actually pretty common and usually resolves quickly.

•but what if it doesn't resolve quickly like that other person said?

I've been dealing with Washington ESD for months and here's what I've learned: progress status almost always means they need to verify something manually. Could be your identity, your job search, your availability, or your earnings. The key is getting someone on the phone to tell you exactly what they need.

Alexis Robinson
•But how do you actually get someone on the phone? I've tried calling and it's impossible.

•I've heard good things about that Claimyr service people mentioned. Might be worth trying if you're desperate to get through.

Same exact thing happened to me last week! Progress for 3 days then suddenly switched to paid. I never found out what they were checking but I got my money eventually.

•That's reassuring. I'm hoping mine resolves just as quickly.

Washington ESD's progress status is basically their way of saying 'we're looking at your claim but we won't tell you why.' It's one of the most frustrating parts of the unemployment system. Sometimes it's routine, sometimes it's because of a problem, and you never know which until you finally get through to someone.

Alexis Robinson
•This is exactly why I'm so frustrated. Why can't they just tell us what they're checking?
0 coins
Benjamin Johnson
•Because that would require them to actually communicate with claimants, which they seem allergic to doing.

Try checking your claim after 8pm or early morning. Sometimes the status updates overnight and you might see it change to paid or get more information about what's being reviewed.

If you're really worried about the progress status, I'd suggest trying to get through to Washington ESD today rather than waiting. I used Claimyr a few weeks ago when I had an adjudication issue and it was honestly a lifesaver. Got connected to an agent who walked me through exactly what was happening with my claim.

•I keep seeing Claimyr mentioned. Is it actually legitimate or just another scam?

Aaliyah Reed
•It's legitimate. I was skeptical too but it actually works. They have a demo video that shows exactly how it works if you want to check it out first.

Progress status usually resolves within a few business days. The key is not to panic and definitely don't stop filing your weekly claims while you wait. Keep doing everything you normally do and it should sort itself out.

Alexis Robinson
•Should I still file this Sunday even though last week is still showing progress?

Mohammed Khan
•Yes, definitely keep filing. Missing a weekly claim creates bigger problems than having one stuck in progress.

UPDATE: For anyone following this thread, my claim finally switched from progress to paid this morning! It took 3 days total and I got my full payment. I never did find out what they were checking but I'm just glad it's resolved. Thanks everyone for the advice and support!
