One more question - does the program code affect how much you get paid or just how they categorize your claim?
At least we can all rest easy knowing our code 10 claims are normal. Now if only Washington ESD would make their whole system this easy to understand!
Just remember that your benefits will be based on your earnings from your base period, not your current situation. So file your claim and let Washington ESD calculate your weekly benefit amount. Every week you delay filing is money you're potentially losing.
The most important thing is to file your claim immediately and start your job search right away. Don't overthink it - just get the process started. You can always ask questions later if issues come up.
You're right, I've been overthinking this. I'll file my claim tomorrow and start applying for jobs. Thanks everyone for the advice and reassurance!
Good luck! And if you run into any issues with your claim, remember that getting through to Washington ESD by phone can be really difficult. Services like Claimyr can help you actually talk to an agent when you need to resolve problems quickly.
The Washington ESD website has a benefit calculator tool that can give you an estimate before you file. Might be worth checking out to get a rough idea.
One more thing - if you disagree with your weekly benefit amount calculation, you can appeal it. But you need to do it within 30 days of getting the determination letter.
If anyone's still having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to ask about wage requirements or check their claim status, I had success with Claimyr recently. They have a system that calls until they get through and then connects you. Saved me hours of frustration.
Yeah it's real, you can watch their demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ to see how it works. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.
Bottom line - if you worked consistently and made $8000 across multiple quarters, you almost certainly qualify for unemployment benefits in Washington. The system is designed to help workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own.

One more thing - make sure you file as soon as possible if you do get laid off. Benefits don't backdate to when you lost your job, they start from when you file your claim.

•Yeah, I've seen people lose weeks of benefits because they waited to file thinking they'd find a job quickly.

This thread has been super helpful for understanding the requirements. The quarter system is weird but at least now I get how it works.

•Glad it was useful! The Washington ESD system is confusing but once you understand the basics it makes more sense.

•Definitely. Much clearer than trying to decode their official website explanations.
