When does Washington ESD unemployment pay - still waiting on benefits
I filed my initial claim 3 weeks ago and have been filing weekly claims religiously every Sunday. My claim status shows 'approved' but I still haven't received any payments. The Washington ESD website says payments are processed within 2-3 business days but nothing has hit my bank account. I'm getting really worried because my rent is due next week. Does anyone know when unemployment actually pays out? Is there some delay I don't know about?

There's usually a waiting period even after approval. Did you serve your waiting week? That could be why you haven't seen payments yet. Also check if your claim is actually fully processed - sometimes there are identity verification steps that aren't obvious.

•I think I did the waiting week but honestly I'm not 100% sure. How can I tell if identity verification is holding things up?

•Log into your SecureAccess Washington account and check for any pending actions or alerts. If there's ID verification needed, it should show up there.

•Right?? I keep checking my bank account like 5 times a day hoping something shows up.

•Try calling them but good luck getting through. I've been trying for days with no success.

I had success using Claimyr.com to actually reach a Washington ESD agent about payment delays. They have this system that calls you back when an agent is available instead of you sitting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Got through to someone who explained my payment was held up because of a job separation issue that wasn't showing on my online account.

•That sounds too good to be true... how much does it cost?

•I was skeptical too but honestly it worked when nothing else did. The main thing is you can actually talk to a real person who can see what's going on with your claim.

•I used them last month - totally legit. Way better than calling 800 times and getting hung up on.

Payment timing depends on several factors: 1) Completion of waiting week 2) No outstanding eligibility issues 3) Proper bank info on file 4) No identity verification holds. Washington ESD typically processes payments Tuesday-Thursday for the previous week's claim. If your claim was filed Sunday, payment should hit your account by Thursday at the latest, assuming no holds.

•This is super helpful! I filed my weekly claim this past Sunday so I should see something by Thursday if everything is clear?

Oliver Fischer
•Correct, but only if you've completed your waiting week and have no eligibility issues. Check your payment history in your Washington ESD account to see if any payments show as 'pending' or 'on hold'.

•What if my bank info is wrong? How do I fix that without calling?

THE SYSTEM IS SO BROKEN!!! I've been waiting 6 weeks now and NOBODY can tell me why my payments aren't coming through. My account says approved, no issues, but ZERO dollars. This is ridiculous - people have bills to pay!

•omg 6 weeks?? that's insane. have you tried contacting your state representative?

•I've tried everything - calling, emailing, online chat when it works. Nothing. I'm about to lose my apartment.

•Seriously try Claimyr - at this point you need to talk to an actual person who can look at your account. 6 weeks is way too long.

Anyone else notice payments seem to come at weird times? Mine hit my account at like 3am on Wednesday last week.

•Banks process ACH transfers overnight, so that's normal. Most unemployment payments hit between midnight and 6am.

•ok good to know, I thought something was wrong lol

Quick clarification on timing: Washington ESD processes weekly claims filed by 11:59 PM Sunday and payments are typically released Tuesday evening for deposit Wednesday morning. However, your bank may take an additional business day to post the funds. First-time claimants should also account for the mandatory waiting week before any benefits are paid.

•So if I filed my first claim 3 weeks ago, and I've been filing weekly claims, I should have received at least 2 payments by now?
0 coins
Oliver Fischer
•Yes, assuming no eligibility issues. Check your 'Payment Activity' section to see if payments are being processed but held for some reason.

I updated my bank info online but it's been a week and still showing the old account. Does anyone know how long that takes to update in the system?

•Bank changes can take 1-2 weeks to process. Did you get a confirmation email when you submitted the change?
0 coins
Natasha Petrova
•Yeah I got the email but it just said 'we received your request' with no timeline.

•I had to call to get mine changed faster. Took forever to get through but they updated it immediately once I talked to someone.

update: just checked and I finally got paid! it was exactly 2 weeks from when my claim was approved. hang in there everyone

•That gives me hope! Did you do anything special or just wait it out?

Keisha Johnson
•just waited unfortunately. I think there was some kind of processing delay on their end.

Remember that even though Washington ESD says 2-3 business days, that's from when they approve your weekly claim, not from when you file it. There's often a processing period first.
0 coins
Connor O'Brien
•Oh that makes sense... so filing Sunday doesn't mean payment by Wednesday necessarily?
0 coins
Emma Davis
•Right - they process all the Sunday claims first, then approve eligible ones, then release payments. Whole process can take 4-5 days.

UPDATE: Finally used that Claimyr thing someone mentioned and got through to Washington ESD in like 20 minutes. Turns out there was a 'verification hold' on my account that wasn't showing up anywhere online. Agent removed it and said payments should start next week. Wish I'd done this weeks ago!!!

Connor O'Brien
•Omg really?? I'm definitely trying this if I don't get paid by Friday.

•So glad it worked for you! Those hidden holds are the worst because you have no way of knowing they exist.

Does direct deposit always come before debit cards? My friend got her payment 2 days before mine came on the debit card.
0 coins
Oliver Fischer
•Yes, direct deposit is typically faster. Debit card payments go through a different processor and can take an extra 1-2 business days.

Paolo Rizzo
•makes sense, might switch to direct deposit then

Been getting payments regularly for 2 months now and they always hit my account Wednesday morning around 4am. Very consistent once everything is set up properly.

•Good to know there's light at the end of the tunnel! How long did it take to get your first payment?
0 coins
GalaxyGlider
•About 10 days from filing my initial claim to first payment, but that included the waiting week.

Natasha Petrova
PSA: if you're switching from debit card to direct deposit, make sure you don't close your old bank account until the change goes through. Mine got rejected because I closed the account too early.

•Good point! Always wait for confirmation before making changes to accounts linked to government benefits.

The payment schedule seems to vary by region too. I'm in Spokane and payments usually hit Tuesday night, but my friend in Seattle gets hers Wednesday morning.

Oliver Fischer
•It's more likely your banks process at different times rather than regional differences in Washington ESD processing.

Malik Robinson
•ah that makes more sense, we do have different banks

This thread is so helpful - bookmarking for future reference. The Washington ESD website really doesn't explain the timing very well.

Word of advice: screenshot your weekly claim confirmation every time you file. Helps if there are ever disputes about when you filed or if it went through properly.
