What time to file unemployment claim - Washington ESD best hours?
I got laid off yesterday and need to file my initial unemployment claim with Washington ESD today. I've heard the system gets overwhelmed during certain times. What's the best time of day to file to avoid crashes or long wait times? Should I try early morning, late evening, or does it not matter? Don't want to get halfway through and have the system kick me out.

I filed mine at 6 AM on a Tuesday and had no issues at all. The Washington ESD website seemed to load quickly and I got through the entire application without any glitches. Definitely avoid Monday mornings and anything during business hours.

•Thanks! Did you file right when you got laid off or wait a few days? I'm worried about missing some deadline.

•You should file as soon as possible. There's a waiting week anyway, so the sooner you start the process the better.

honestly the system crashes no matter what time you try lol. I've tried 3am, noon, 8pm and still got booted out multiple times. just keep trying until it works

•Same experience here. The Washington ESD servers just can't handle the load. Super frustrating when you're already stressed about losing your job.

I've helped several people file their claims and found that early morning (5-7 AM) or late evening (after 9 PM) tend to work best. The Washington ESD system gets hammered during regular business hours. Also, avoid Sundays - that's when everyone tries to file their weekly claims and the servers get overloaded.

•This is really helpful! I'll set my alarm for 6 AM tomorrow. Do you know if there's any difference between weekdays and weekends for initial claims?

•Weekdays are generally better for initial claims. Weekends get busy with people filing their weekly continuing claims. Tuesday through Thursday mornings are usually your best bet.

If you keep having trouble getting through on the Washington ESD website, there's actually a service called Claimyr that can help you get through to an actual agent by phone. I found it at claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Sometimes talking to a real person about filing is easier than fighting with the website.

•Interesting, never heard of that. Is it legitimate? I'm always wary of third-party services when it comes to government stuff.

•Yeah it's legit. They just help you get through the phone queue to reach Washington ESD agents. I used it when my claim got stuck in adjudication and couldn't get anyone on the phone otherwise.

•How much does something like that cost though? I'm already broke from being unemployed.

•It's worth checking out their site for the details. For me it was worth it to actually talk to someone instead of spending hours redialing.

PRO TIP: Clear your browser cache before you start filing. I had issues with the Washington ESD site not loading properly until I did that. Also use Chrome or Firefox, not Internet Explorer.

•Good call on the browser cache! I'll make sure to do that. Does it matter if I'm on mobile vs desktop?

•Desktop is definitely better for the initial claim. The mobile version of the Washington ESD site is clunky and times out more often.

I tried filing at 2 AM thinking no one would be on the system and it STILL crashed on me three times. This whole process is ridiculous. How is the Washington ESD website this bad in 2025?

•The infrastructure is just ancient. They've been promising upgrades for years but nothing changes.

One more thing - make sure you have all your employment info ready before you start. The Washington ESD system will time you out if you take too long on any page. Have your employer's FEIN number, your exact dates of employment, and your final gross pay amount handy.

Sarah Ali
•Where do I find the FEIN number? Is that on my W-2 or paystub?
0 coins
Ryan Vasquez
•It should be on your final paystub or you can ask your former employer's HR department. Don't guess at it or your claim might get delayed.

•The FEIN is also called the Federal Employer Identification Number. Sometimes it's listed as EIN on tax documents.

Filed mine last week at around 7 PM and got through no problem. Took about 45 minutes total. The key is having patience and not rushing through the questions.

Sarah Ali
•45 minutes seems reasonable. I was worried it would take hours. Did you get confirmation right away that it was submitted?

Brooklyn Foley
•Yes, you get a confirmation number and they send you a letter in the mail within a few days with your claim details.

I've filed three different claims over the years (construction work is seasonal) and Tuesday morning around 6:30 AM has been consistently the best time for me. The Washington ESD system is most stable then.

Sarah Ali
•That's really specific timing! I'll definitely try that window. Did your claims process quickly when filed at that time?

Marcus Williams
•Usually got approved within 10-14 days. No major delays or issues. The key is accuracy on your initial filing - double check everything before submitting.

My sister had to use one of those callback services to actually reach someone at Washington ESD when her online filing kept erroring out. Apparently there are companies that will get you through to an agent instead of waiting on hold forever.

•Is that the Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier? Might be worth having as a backup plan.

Lily Young
•Yeah I think that was it. She said it saved her tons of time and frustration compared to calling directly.

Just remember you can't file until the day after your last day of work. I made that mistake and had to start over because I filed too early.

•Oh good point! My last day was yesterday so I should be good to file today. Thanks for the reminder.

The Washington ESD call center opens at 8 AM if you prefer to file by phone instead of online. Sometimes that's actually faster than dealing with website crashes.

•Have you actually gotten through by calling at 8 AM? Every time I've tried calling Washington ESD I get a busy signal or put on hold for hours.

•It's hit or miss. You have to call right at 8:00 AM sharp. Even a few minutes later and you're stuck in the queue forever.

•This is exactly why I ended up using Claimyr. Spent three days trying to get through on the phone before giving up and using their service to reach an agent.

Make sure your internet connection is stable too. I was using public wifi at a coffee shop and got kicked out halfway through. Had to start completely over.

•Good thinking. I'll make sure I'm on my home wifi with a strong signal. This process sounds stressful enough without technical issues.

Filed mine at 11 PM on a Wednesday and it went smoothly. I think the late night hours are underrated - most people aren't up filing claims at that time.

Sarah Ali
•That's a good point about late night. I'm usually up late anyway so that might work for me too.

•Just make sure you're alert enough to answer everything accurately. Mistakes on the initial claim can cause major headaches later.

Don't overthink the timing too much. Yes some times are better than others but the most important thing is just getting it filed. I stressed about the perfect time for three days before just doing it, and it worked fine.

Sarah Ali
•You're probably right. I need to just pick a time and go for it. All this advice has been super helpful though!

Ryan Vasquez
•Agreed. The sooner you file, the sooner your waiting week starts. Don't delay over finding the 'perfect' time.
