What time does unemployment direct deposit hit your account on Tuesday - Washington ESD timing?
I've been getting my Washington ESD unemployment payments on Tuesdays but I can never figure out what time they actually hit my bank account. Sometimes it seems like it's there when I wake up, other times it doesn't show up until afternoon. Does anyone know the exact timing for when Washington ESD processes the direct deposits? I'm with Chase bank if that makes a difference. Really need to know so I can plan my bills better.

It depends on your bank mostly. Washington ESD sends the payments out Monday night but each bank processes them at different times. I have Bank of America and mine usually shows up around 3am Tuesday morning.

•Thanks! That's helpful to know it goes out Monday night. I'll check my account earlier in the morning.

•Mine with Wells Fargo is usually there by 6am Tuesday but sometimes not until 9am

I've been tracking this for months because I was so frustrated not knowing! With Chase it's usually between 2-4am on Tuesday. But if there's a holiday or weekend it can be delayed.

•Perfect! That's exactly what I needed to know. Do you know if it's ever later than 4am with Chase?

•Only when there's been a bank holiday or if Washington ESD has processing delays. Normal weeks it's pretty consistent.

The timing issue is so frustrating when you're trying to budget. I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I had questions about payment timing and other issues. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Made it so much easier to actually talk to someone instead of calling for hours.

•Wait, they can actually get you through to Washington ESD? I've been trying to call for weeks about my adjudication

•Yeah exactly! That's what I used it for initially. Way better than spending my whole day redialing.

•This sounds too good to be true but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point

For what it's worth, I think the actual deposit time also depends on whether you filed your weekly claim early or late in the week. I file mine Sunday night and get paid Tuesday morning, but my friend who files Wednesday gets paid the following Tuesday.

•I always file Sunday night too so that matches what you're saying

•That's not how it works... the payment schedule is set regardless of when you file during the week

•Maybe I'm wrong but that's just what I've noticed with my timing vs my friend's

I hate how inconsistent it is. Some weeks it's there at midnight, other weeks I'm checking all morning. Washington ESD really needs to be more transparent about their payment processing schedule.

•It's not really Washington ESD's fault though, it's more about how different banks process ACH transfers

•True but they could at least give us a better idea of when they send the payments out

Does anyone know if there's a way to track the payment before it hits your account? Like can you see it pending in your bank account or anything?

•Some banks show pending deposits but not all. Chase doesn't show mine as pending, it just appears

•Same with Chase for me, no pending notification

•My credit union shows it pending on Monday evening which is nice

The federal ACH system processes overnight Sunday-Thursday, so Washington ESD likely submits the batch Monday evening for Tuesday delivery. Most banks post ACH credits in the early morning hours between 12am-6am.

•This makes sense and matches what others are saying about the timing

I'm with a small local bank and mine never shows up until like 10am Tuesday. So frustrating when you need to pay bills first thing in the morning.

•Smaller banks often process ACH transfers later in the day compared to big banks

•Yeah that's what I figured. Thinking about switching to a bigger bank just for this reason

Has anyone noticed if the timing is different for the first payment vs regular weekly payments? I just started getting UI and wondering if there's any difference.

Ellie Perry
•First payment might be slightly delayed just because of processing but after that it should be regular

•Good to know, thanks! I'll keep an eye on the pattern

Random question but does anyone know if Washington ESD payments come through faster than regular direct deposits from employers? Mine seem to hit earlier than my old paycheck used to.

Aileen Rodriguez
•It's the same ACH system so timing should be similar, might just be coincidence

Alejandro Castro
•Ah okay, probably just different processing schedules then

I set up account alerts on my phone so I get notified as soon as any deposit hits. That way I don't have to keep checking all morning.

•Smart idea! I should set that up too

Does the timing change during busy periods like when lots of people are filing claims? I started getting payments during the busy season and wondering if that affects it.

•I haven't noticed any difference in deposit timing even during busy periods. The payment processing seems pretty automated

•That's reassuring, thanks for letting me know

The whole system is frustrating tbh. Like why can't they just tell us exactly when payments go out? Other government agencies are more transparent about this stuff.

•This is another reason why I ended up using Claimyr - was able to actually ask someone at Washington ESD about payment schedules directly instead of guessing

•That's actually really smart. I might look into that service

I've been getting unemployment for 6 months and Tuesday 3am is like clockwork with my credit union. Never been later than 4am unless there was a holiday.

•That's consistent with what others are saying about the 2-4am timeframe

•Credit unions seem to be more consistent with timing than big banks

Pro tip: if you're tight on money, some banks let you overdraft against pending deposits. Not ideal but can help if you need the money Monday night.

•Careful with that though, overdraft fees can add up quick

•True, definitely only for emergencies

I wonder if there's any way to get payments faster, like is there an expedited option? Probably not but figured I'd ask.

Aileen Rodriguez
•No expedited option that I know of. The ACH system is what it is

•Yeah figured as much but worth asking

Thanks for asking this question OP! I've been wondering the same thing. Sounds like 2-4am Tuesday is the general consensus for most banks.

One last thing - if your payment doesn't show up by like 10am Tuesday, that's when you should probably call Washington ESD to check on it. Earlier than that and it might just be normal bank processing delays.
