What does pay type progress mean for unemployment on Washington ESD account?
I'm looking at my Washington ESD account and under my weekly claim it shows 'pay type progress' but I have no idea what this means. I filed my claim on Sunday like usual and reported my work hours correctly. Is this normal or should I be worried? I've never seen this status before and can't find any explanation on the ESD website.

Pay type progress usually means they're processing your payment method or verifying your eligibility for that particular week. It's one of the status indicators they use while your claim is being reviewed.

•How long does this typically take? I'm worried there might be an issue with my claim.

•Usually resolves within 1-2 business days if everything looks good. If it stays longer than that, there might be something that needs manual review.

I've seen this before when I had partial earnings to report. Washington ESD has to calculate your partial benefit amount, which can take a day or two extra processing time.

•That makes sense actually. I did work a few hours this week and reported them on my weekly claim.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on this status, I recently discovered claimyr.com which helped me reach an actual agent without waiting on hold forever. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Might be worth trying if you need to speak to someone directly about your pay type progress status.

•Is that service legit? I'm always skeptical of third-party stuff for government benefits.

•I was skeptical too but it actually worked. They just help you get through to Washington ESD agents - you're still talking to the actual ESD staff, not some middleman.

I think pay type progress might also show up when they're verifying your job search activities. Did you submit your job search log properly?

•Yes I submitted my job search activities like always. Three job contacts per week as required.

•Sometimes even if you submit everything correctly, their system flags things for random review. Super annoying but normal.

UGH I hate these vague status messages!! Why can't Washington ESD just say what's actually happening instead of cryptic phrases like 'pay type progress' that mean nothing to regular people?

•Right?? Their whole system is designed to confuse us I swear

•I agree the messaging could be clearer, but at least pay type progress is usually temporary and resolves quickly.

Check if your direct deposit info is still correct in your account. Sometimes pay type progress shows when there's an issue with payment processing.

•Just checked and my bank info looks correct. Same account I've been using for months.

I had this exact status last month and it turned out they were just verifying that I was still eligible for regular UI benefits vs some other program. Cleared up in 3 days.

•That's reassuring, thank you! I'll give it a few more days before panicking.

•Same thing happened to me. They were making sure I wasn't supposed to be on standby status instead of regular unemployment.

Are you sure it doesn't say 'pay status progress'? I've never seen 'pay type progress' specifically.

•I double checked and it definitely says 'pay type progress' on my account. Maybe they use different wording for different situations?

•Washington ESD has several similar status messages that can be confusing. Pay type progress is one of the less common ones but it's legitimate.

If you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD about this, try calling right at 8am when they open. That's when I usually get through fastest.

•I tried that last week and still couldn't get through. The phone system is awful.

•That's exactly why I started using claimyr.com - saves all that time trying to get through on your own.

Maybe try logging out and back in? Sometimes their system glitches and shows weird statuses.

•Already tried that unfortunately. Still showing the same status.

I work part-time and see this status pretty regularly when I report earnings. It's just their way of saying they're calculating your partial payment amount.

•That has to be what it is then. I worked 12 hours this week so they need to figure out my partial benefit.

•Yep, that's exactly what triggers that status. Should update to 'paid' once they finish the calculation.

I've been on unemployment for 6 months and never seen this status before. Must be something new they added to their system?

•It's not new, just not very common. Usually only shows up in specific circumstances like partial earnings or eligibility verification.

Don't stress too much about it. Washington ESD's system is confusing but if you filed everything correctly it should process normally. Keep checking your account over the next couple days.

•Thanks everyone for the help! I feel much better knowing this is normal and should resolve soon.

For what it's worth, I used that claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it really did help me get through to Washington ESD when I had a similar confusing status. Worth considering if this doesn't resolve in a few days.

•I'll definitely keep that in mind if I need to call them. Thanks for the recommendation!

UPDATE: Mine just changed from 'pay type progress' to 'paid' this morning! Took exactly 2 business days. OP yours should update soon too.
