What does progress mean on Washington ESD unemployment claim status?
I'm checking my claim status on the Washington ESD website and it just says 'progress' but doesn't explain what that actually means. I filed my initial claim two weeks ago and have been doing my weekly claims but the status hasn't changed from 'progress'. Is this normal? Should I be worried that something is wrong with my claim? I tried calling but couldn't get through to anyone at Washington ESD.

Progress usually means your claim is being processed but hasn't been approved or denied yet. It's basically waiting in line for review. Two weeks is still pretty normal for initial claims, especially if they need to verify your employment history.

•Thanks, that makes me feel better. I was starting to panic thinking I did something wrong on my application.

•same here, mine said progress for 3 weeks before it finally got approved

The 'progress' status means Washington ESD is still processing your claim. They're verifying your wages, employment dates, and reason for separation. This can take 2-4 weeks for regular claims. Don't worry unless it's been over a month without any updates.

•Good to know! Should I keep filing my weekly claims even though it says progress?

•Yes, absolutely keep filing your weekly claims. You need to maintain eligibility even while your initial claim is being processed.

I had the same issue trying to call Washington ESD about my claim status. The phone lines are always busy. I actually found this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual person at Washington ESD. They have a system that keeps calling until someone picks up. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they even have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•That sounds helpful! I'll check it out. I've been trying to call for days with no luck.

•Is that legit? I'm always skeptical of third-party services for government stuff.

•Yeah it's legit - they just help you get through the phone system. I was able to talk to a real Washington ESD representative and get my questions answered.

PROGRESS STATUS IS THE WORST! I've been stuck on progress for a month now and Washington ESD won't tell me what's going on. The system is completely broken and they don't care about people who need help.

•A month is definitely too long. You should definitely try to get through to someone at that point.

•After 30 days you should escalate. There might be an adjudication issue that needs to be resolved.

mine took forever too but eventually went through. just keep doing your weekly claims and be patient

•How long did yours take total?

•about 3 weeks from when I first applied

The progress status is basically Washington ESD's way of saying 'we're working on it but don't have an answer yet.' They're probably verifying your wages with your previous employer or checking your work history. The system has to cross-reference a lot of information before approving benefits.

•That makes sense. I worked for a big company so maybe they're taking longer to verify everything.

Andre Lefebvre
•Big companies usually respond faster to wage verification requests actually. Smaller businesses are often slower.

I'm dealing with the same thing right now. Filed 10 days ago and still showing progress. At least I know I'm not the only one waiting around.

•Yeah it's frustrating not knowing what's happening. At least we're all in the same boat!

•Exactly. I keep checking the website multiple times a day hoping it changed.

One thing to watch for - if your claim goes into 'adjudication' status instead of progress, that means there's an issue that needs to be resolved. Progress is normal processing, adjudication means they need more information or there's a problem.

•Good to know the difference. Mine definitely just says progress so I guess that's better than adjudication.

Carmen Ruiz
•What if it's been in adjudication for weeks? That's even worse than progress!

Ethan Clark
•Adjudication can take 4-6 weeks depending on the complexity of the issue. You really need to talk to someone at that point.

I work in HR and deal with unemployment claims regularly. The progress status is standard for new claims. Washington ESD has to verify employment, wages, and separation reason before approving benefits. It's annoying but normal.

•That's reassuring coming from someone who works with this stuff regularly. Thanks!

•Do you know if there's a way to speed up the process?
0 coins
Andre Lefebvre
•Not really. The verification process takes as long as it takes. Just make sure you keep filing weekly claims.

honestly the waiting is the worst part. you just want to know if you're going to get benefits or not

Nia Wilson
•Exactly! The uncertainty is killing me. I need to know if I should be looking for a job more aggressively or if I'll have some income coming in.

While you're waiting, make sure you're meeting the job search requirements. Even though your claim is in progress, you still need to be actively looking for work and documenting your job search activities.

•Good point. I've been doing some job searching but wasn't sure if I needed to document it yet.

Mateo Martinez
•Yes, you need to keep a job search log from day one. Washington ESD can ask for it at any time.

Just as an update - I used Claimyr again last week when I had questions about my weekly claim and got through to Washington ESD in about 20 minutes. Way better than spending hours on hold or getting disconnected.

•I'm definitely going to try that if my claim doesn't update soon. Thanks for the recommendation!

•I might try it too. I hate being stuck in phone limbo.

Progress means you're in the queue waiting for someone to review your claim. It's like being in line at the DMV but you can't see how many people are ahead of you.

Nia Wilson
•That's actually a perfect analogy! At least at the DMV you can see the line though.

Important reminder: even if your claim is in progress status, you must continue filing your weekly claims. Missing a weekly claim can cause delays or disqualification even after your initial claim is approved.

THE PROGRESS STATUS IS JUST WASHINGTON ESD'S WAY OF SAYING 'WE'LL GET TO YOU WHEN WE GET TO YOU' - it's infuriating when you need help paying bills!

•I understand the frustration but getting angry won't speed up the process. The system is what it is.

•Easy to say when you're not the one waiting for money to pay rent!

From a processing standpoint, progress status indicates your claim is in the initial review queue. Washington ESD processes claims in the order received, so filing date matters. Claims with complications take longer.

•Mine should be straightforward - regular layoff from a stable job. Hopefully that helps speed things up.
0 coins
Andre Lefebvre
•Straightforward claims usually process faster, but it still takes time to verify everything with your employer.

Update: mine just changed from progress to approved! Took exactly 2 weeks and 3 days. So there's hope for all of us waiting!

•congrats! that's about how long mine took too

The key thing to remember is that progress status is normal and expected. Don't panic if it takes a few weeks. Washington ESD is just doing their due diligence to make sure everything is correct before approving benefits.

If anyone needs to actually talk to Washington ESD about their claim status, I can't recommend Claimyr enough. Saved me so much time and frustration trying to get through on my own.

Final advice: be patient with the progress status, keep filing weekly claims, maintain your job search activities, and don't hesitate to reach out for help if it takes longer than expected. The system works, it just takes time.
