What day does Washington ESD unemployment pay - when do benefits hit account?

I just got approved for my unemployment claim last week and filed my first weekly claim on Monday. When should I expect to see the money in my account? I know it varies by state but wondering specifically about Washington ESD timing. My bills are due this Friday and I'm trying to figure out if I should expect the payment by then or if I need to make other arrangements.

Payments are typically processed Tuesday through Thursday after you file your weekly claim. Since you filed Monday, you should see it by Wednesday or Thursday this week if everything goes smoothly.

That's a relief! So it's usually within 2-3 days of filing the weekly claim?

Yes, assuming there are no issues with your claim. First payments sometimes take a bit longer though.

mine always comes on wednesday mornings, like clockwork. been on UI for 3 months now

0 coins

Good to know! Did your first payment come on Wednesday too or did it take longer?

first one took almost a week because they had to verify my bank info or something

It depends on your bank too. Some credit unions post deposits faster than big banks. Washington ESD sends payments out Tuesday-Thursday but when you actually see it can vary by your financial institution.

I have Chase - any idea how they usually are with processing these?

0 coins

Chase is pretty fast in my experience, usually same day or next morning after ESD sends it

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD to check on payment status, I found this service called Claimyr that helps you get through to an actual agent. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Really helped when I was stressed about my first payment being delayed.

Interesting, never heard of that. Is it legit? I hate trying to call Washington ESD directly.

Yeah it's real, they basically handle the calling and waiting for you. Way better than spending hours on hold.

Sounds too good to be true but the phone system is such a nightmare I might check it out

WEDNESDAY IS THE DAY! I've been getting mine every Wednesday for 6 months straight. Set your expectations for Wednesday morning and you won't be disappointed.

Love the confidence! Fingers crossed mine follows the same pattern.

Mine comes Thursday usually, so it's not always Wednesday for everyone

Make sure you're checking the right account if you have multiple bank accounts. I once panicked thinking my payment was late but I had given them my old savings account number by mistake.

0 coins

Good point! I double-checked and it's definitely going to my main checking account.

lol I did the same thing, was freaking out for nothing

First payments can be slower because they verify everything. After that it's pretty consistent. I usually file Sunday night and get paid by Wednesday afternoon.

0 coins

That makes sense about the verification. Hopefully after this first one it'll be smoother.

Yeah the first one took forever for me too, like 5 days. Now it's super regular.

Tuesday through Thursday is the window but I've noticed holidays can mess with the timing. No holidays this week though so you should be good.

0 coins

Oh right, holidays would definitely impact it. Thanks for thinking of that!

Memorial Day weekend screwed up my payment timing last month

If it doesn't show up by Friday, definitely call Washington ESD. Sometimes there are issues that need to be resolved before they can release payment.

0 coins

Will do! Hopefully it won't come to that but good to have a plan.

That's when Claimyr really comes in handy - when you actually need to reach someone at ESD quickly

calling ESD is such a pain, I spent 3 hours on hold last time

0 coins

depends on if you chose direct deposit or the debit card option. Direct deposit is faster in my experience.

0 coins

I did direct deposit so that should help with the timing.

yeah the debit card can take an extra day sometimes

Watch your account Wednesday morning, that's when most people see it hit. If you filed Monday you're right on track for a Wednesday payment.

0 coins

Perfect timing then! I'll check first thing Wednesday morning.

mine usually shows up around 6am on Wednesday

The waiting is the worst part, especially for the first payment. But once you get in the rhythm it becomes predictable. You'll probably see it Wednesday!

0 coins

Yeah the uncertainty is stressful when you have bills due. Thanks for the encouragement!

I've used that Claimyr service mentioned earlier when I had payment issues. Really does work well for getting through to ESD when the regular phone lines are jammed. Worth knowing about just in case.

Good to know there are options if I run into problems. Hopefully won't need it but bookmarking just in case.

If you do need to contact ESD for any reason, definitely check out that Claimyr demo video I mentioned earlier

Based on filing Monday, Wednesday is your most likely payment day. That's been my experience and most others I know. Fingers crossed for you!

0 coins

Thanks! The consistency in everyone's responses about Wednesday is really reassuring.

yeah Washington ESD is pretty reliable once you get started
