What day do you get unemployment payments from Washington ESD?
I just got approved for unemployment benefits and I'm trying to figure out when Washington ESD actually sends out payments. I filed my first weekly claim on Tuesday but I'm not sure what day of the week to expect the money in my account. Does anyone know the schedule for when payments get processed? I have bills due and need to plan accordingly.

Washington ESD typically processes payments on Tuesday nights/Wednesday mornings if you file your weekly claim by Sunday. But it can take 1-2 business days to actually hit your bank account depending on your bank.

•Thanks! So if I file on Sunday, I should see money by Wednesday or Thursday?

Henry Delgado
•Usually yes, but your first payment might take a bit longer since they're setting up your account.

It usually takes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim for the payment to hit your account. So if you filed Sunday, you'd probably see it Tuesday or Wednesday.

•Thanks! Do you know if it's always the same day once they establish a pattern?

Ella Knight
•Yeah pretty much, once you get into a routine it's usually the same day each week

i always get mine on wednesday but my friend gets hers on thursday, depends on your bank i think

•What bank do you use? I have Chase and wondering if that makes a difference.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on your payment status, I had luck using Claimyr recently. They help you get connected to an actual agent without waiting on hold for hours. Check out claimyr.com - there's even a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works.

•How much does that service cost? I'm already tight on money waiting for my first payment.

•It's worth it when you need answers quickly. Way better than spending your whole day trying to call Washington ESD.

The payment schedule depends on when you certify your weekly claim. Washington ESD processes payments in batches: - File by Sunday = Payment Tuesday night/Wednesday - File Monday = Payment Wednesday night/Thursday - File Tuesday = Payment Thursday night/Friday Always file as early as possible in the week to get your money faster.

•This is super helpful! I didn't realize filing early in the week made such a difference.

•wait so if i file on friday i have to wait until the next week for payment??

•If you file late in the week it might not process until the following Tuesday/Wednesday batch.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to confirm your payment schedule, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually reach an agent. They have this video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Saved me hours of calling and getting hung up on.

•Really? I've been trying to call for days with no luck. How does that service work exactly?
0 coins
Jade Santiago
•It basically handles the calling and waiting for you, then connects you when an agent is available. Super easy to use.

•Interesting, never heard of that before. Might have to check it out.

Been on unemployment for 6 months now and I ALWAYS file my weekly claim on Sunday morning. Money hits my account every Wednesday like clockwork. Set a reminder on your phone to file Sunday so you don't forget.
0 coins
Gianni Serpent
•That's a great idea about the phone reminder. I'm worried I'll forget to file one week.
0 coins
James Johnson
•Yeah missing even one week can really mess up your payment schedule. Sunday filing is the way to go.

My payments have been all over the place. Sometimes Wednesday, sometimes Thursday, once it was Friday! I don't know if it's my credit union or Washington ESD being inconsistent.
0 coins
Henry Delgado
•Credit unions often take longer to process ACH transfers than big banks. That could be the issue.
0 coins
Jibriel Kohn
•Ugh that's annoying. Maybe I should switch to a different bank just for unemployment.

The payment timing can also depend on whether your claim goes into adjudication or if there are any issues with your weekly claim filing. I've had payments delayed when I reported work hours and they had to verify with my employer.
0 coins
Julian Paolo
•Oh great, another thing to worry about. How long do those delays typically last?
0 coins
Daniel Price
•In my experience, usually just a few extra days for simple verification. Adjudication can take weeks though.

Does anyone know if holidays affect the payment schedule? I'm worried about next week since there's a federal holiday on Monday.
0 coins
Edison Estevez
•Yes, federal holidays can delay processing by a day. If Monday is a holiday, expect payments to be pushed back 24 hours.

Sophia Rodriguez
•Thanks for the heads up! Guess I'll budget accordingly.

WEDNESDAY!!! Always Wednesday for me, like clockwork. Been on unemployment twice and both times it was Wednesday. File Sunday night, get paid Wednesday morning.

•Weird, maybe it depends on your social security number or something?

Just make sure you're filing your weekly claims correctly and on time. Missing the deadline can delay your payment by a whole week. The cutoff is usually Sunday at midnight for the previous week.

Julian Paolo
•Good to know! I set a reminder on my phone for Sunday evenings just to be safe.

this is all confusing to me, im new to unemployment and dont understand when im supposed to do what
0 coins
Edison Estevez
•You need to file a weekly claim every week for the previous week. So this Sunday you'd file for last week. Then Washington ESD sends payment a few days later.
0 coins
Emily Nguyen-Smith
•ok so file every sunday for the week that just ended, got it

•If you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD for clarification, try Claimyr instead of calling directly. Saved me hours of waiting.

Zoey Bianchi
If you have direct deposit set up it's faster. Without it you have to wait for the debit card to arrive and that can take forever with Washington ESD.
0 coins
Julian Paolo
•I did set up direct deposit during my application. Hopefully that speeds things up.
0 coins
Zoey Bianchi
•Yeah you should be good then. Much faster than waiting for that stupid debit card.

My sister said she gets paid on tuesdays but that seems early? She lives in spokane if that matters

•Location within Washington doesn't matter for payment timing. She might be thinking of when Washington ESD processes the payment vs when it hits her account.

I've been getting unemployment for 8 weeks now and here's what I've learned about Washington ESD payment timing: 1. File your weekly claim ASAP on Sunday 2. Payment gets processed Tuesday night 3. Expect money in account Wednesday or Thursday 4. Never file late in the week unless you want to wait extra days Also keep track of your weekly claim dates because missing one week can cause delays.
0 coins
Gianni Serpent
•This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for breaking it down so clearly!
0 coins
Jibriel Kohn
•What happens if you miss filing a weekly claim? Can you go back and file it later?
0 coins
Mia Green
•You might be able to file a late claim but it can cause issues. Better to set a reminder and never miss a week.

make sure you check your account in the morning not at night, mine usually shows up around 6am on payment day
0 coins
Julian Paolo
•Good tip! I'll check first thing in the morning instead of staying up late waiting.

Daniel Price
Also worth noting that if you're on standby status, your payment timing might be different since you don't file weekly claims the same way. Your employer submits the information directly to Washington ESD.
0 coins
Jayden Reed
•I'm on standby and mine comes every other week when my employer submits. Usually Thursdays.
0 coins
Julian Paolo
•I'm not on standby, just regular unemployment, so I think the Tuesday/Wednesday timeline applies to me.

Washington ESD payments are so unreliable! Sometimes I get them Wednesday, sometimes Thursday, once it took until Friday. The whole system is a mess.
0 coins
Henry Delgado
•It's usually your bank that causes the variation, not Washington ESD. Their processing schedule is pretty consistent.
0 coins
Emma Bianchi
•Maybe but it's still frustrating when you're budgeting and can't predict when money will arrive

Tuesday crew checking in! Like others said, it's pretty consistent once you get into the rhythm. Just don't panic if it's a few hours late sometimes.

•Nah it's pretty predictable. Washington ESD has a lot of problems but payment timing isn't usually one of them.

Just remember to report any work you do during the week you're claiming for. Even a few hours can affect your payment amount and timing if they have to verify it.
0 coins
Julian Paolo
•Good point. I'll make sure to be accurate about any part-time work I might pick up.

•Yeah don't mess around with that. Washington ESD takes work reporting very seriously.

If anyone needs to talk to Washington ESD about payment issues, I second the Claimyr recommendation. Used it last month when my payments stopped for no reason and got through to someone within an hour.

One last thing - if you ever need to change your direct deposit info, do it right after you get a payment, not right before you're expecting one. Learned that the hard way when I switched banks.

Julian Paolo
•Thanks for the heads up! I'll keep that in mind if I ever need to change banks.

tuesday here too! seems like most people get tuesday or wednesday. never heard of anyone getting it on monday or later in the week

•I think it might depend on which day you typically file your weekly claim too.

Julian Paolo
•That makes sense. I filed on Sunday so Tuesday or Wednesday sounds about right based on what everyone's saying.

Brianna Muhammad
Bottom line: expect Tuesday or Wednesday, set up direct deposit if you haven't already, and don't stress if it's a few hours late sometimes. The system works, it's just not always super fast.

Quick question - do you get paid for the current week or the previous week when you file your weekly claim?
0 coins
Edison Estevez
•You're always filing for the previous week. So if you file on Sunday Jan 14th, you're claiming benefits for the week of Jan 7-13.

Lucas Kowalski
•Got it, thanks! That makes more sense now.

I use a small local bank and my unemployment payments always come on Thursday. Bigger banks like Bank of America seem to get them Wednesday. Just depends on how fast your bank processes ACH transfers.

Does anyone know if the payment amount changes based on what day you file? I always file Sunday but my cousin files Tuesday and swears she gets more money.
0 coins
Edison Estevez
•No, the day you file doesn't affect your benefit amount. That's determined by your wages from your base period. Your cousin might have a higher weekly benefit amount for other reasons.
0 coins
Grace Patel
•Ah ok that makes sense. She probably just made more money before getting laid off.

I always file my weekly claim on Sunday around 8am and get paid every Wednesday without fail. Washington ESD is actually pretty reliable once you learn the schedule.

For anyone wondering about direct deposit vs debit card - direct deposit is usually faster. I get my unemployment payment Wednesday morning but when I used the ESD debit card it took until Thursday.

The key thing is consistency. File every Sunday, expect money every Wednesday (or Thursday depending on your bank). Don't overthink it and definitely don't file late in the week unless you want delays.

Just wanted to add that if your payment seems delayed, check your Washington ESD account online first before panicking. Sometimes there are issues with your weekly claim that need to be resolved before payment can be sent.
0 coins
Gianni Serpent
•Good point about checking online first. I'll make sure to do that if anything seems off.
