PFMLA payment timing with Chime - when should deposits hit?
I recently got approved for Paid Family Medical Leave (PFMLA) and I've submitted my first claim. My benefits approval letter says payments will be processed weekly, but I'm wondering if anyone using Chime as their bank knows which day of the week PFMLA payments usually hit? My regular paychecks always came 2 days early with Chime, so I'm hoping it works the same way with PFMLA. Does ESD process these on a certain day of the week? Really need to plan my bills for this month since I'm getting less than my normal income.

•Thanks! Do you always submit your weekly claim on the same day? I'm trying to figure out if I should be submitting on a specific day to get paid faster.

I don't have Chime but with my credit union I get PFML deposits on Wednesdays. I think ESD processes them in batches based on when you file the weekly certification. It's not like regular unemployment where everyone files on the same schedule.

•That makes sense. So there's no specific "payday" for everyone at once. I'll keep track of when I file and when it hits my account to see if there's a consistent timing.

Just to clarify - PFMLA payments are handled by the Paid Family and Medical Leave division, which is part of ESD but operates differently than regular unemployment. Once approved, payment processing typically takes 1-3 business days after your weekly certification is received and approved. With Chime's early direct deposit feature, you'll likely see it 1-2 days before traditional banks. The important thing is to submit your weekly certification consistently and make sure you're completing all sections correctly. Many payment delays happen because of incomplete certifications or verification issues.

•Thanks for explaining! I didn't realize it was a different division handling the payments. The approval letter wasn't very clear about the weekly certification process - is there anything specific I need to watch out for when filling those out?

PFMLA payment timing varies a lot more than regular UI. With Chime specifically, I've found payments typically post 1-2 business days after ESD processes them, which is usually 2-3 days after submitting your weekly certification. Most of my payments hit on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. The challenge is that PFMLA sometimes requires additional verification that can delay processing without warning. The ESD portal doesn't always show these delays clearly, and you might not know there's an issue until your payment is late. If you see a payment is "processing" but doesn't hit your Chime account within 48 hours, that's when you should try calling the PFMLA customer service line at 833-717-2273. Getting through can be nearly impossible though.

•Calling PFMLA is a nightmare! I spent 3 weeks trying to reach someone about a delayed payment. Ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through after someone here recommended it. You pay them to wait on hold and then they call you when an agent picks up. Totally worth it to not waste hours redialing. They have a demo video here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Came in clutch when I had a certification issue that was holding up my payment for weeks and couldn't get through on my own.

My experience is that ESD is COMPLETELY RANDOM with PFMLA!!!! I've been on it since January and sometimes I get paid Monday, sometimes Thursday, no rhyme or reason!!!! I submit on the same day every week!!!! Chime usually posts 2 days early but NOT ALWAYS with government benefits!!!! So frustrating!!!!!

•Ugh, that's exactly what I was afraid of. Makes it really hard to plan bill payments when you don't know when money will show up!

I think everyone's confusing PFML with regular unemployment. They're totally different systems! PFML doesn't work like UI where you file weekly claims on a set schedule. With PFML, you establish a claim for your qualifying event (birth, medical condition, etc.) and then you submit certifications for specific periods. The payment timing depends on when you submit for each period and how quickly your healthcare provider verifies if needed. I'm on PFML right now and I get deposits to my Chime usually 4-5 days after submitting certification forms. So if I submit on Thursday, I usually see money by Tuesday or Wednesday.

•You're partially right. PFMLA does operate differently than regular UI, but it still has a weekly certification requirement after your initial claim is approved. The key difference is that PFMLA certifications can cover varying periods depending on your leave schedule, and may require ongoing healthcare provider verification depending on the nature of your claim. The ESD website has detailed guides on the certification process at esd.wa.gov/paid-family-medical-leave/applying

Has anyone noticed that sometimes the PFML payments show as pending for a day in Chime before they're available? Happened to my partner a couple times.

•YES!!! This drives me CRAZY!!! Chime shows it PENDING but won't let me ACCESS it!!!! Sometimes for 24 hours!!!! What's the point of early deposit if they HOLD it anyway?!?! Makes no sense!!!!!

To summarize what others have said and add some clarity: 1. PFML payment timing depends on when you submit your certification 2. ESD typically processes within 2-3 business days of receiving your certification 3. Chime usually deposits 1-2 days earlier than traditional banks 4. Most Chime users report Tuesday/Wednesday deposits for PFML 5. The first payment often takes longer than subsequent ones Based on the patterns I've seen with both my own claim and helping others, I'd suggest submitting your certifications on the same day each week to establish a somewhat predictable payment pattern.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll try to stick to a consistent submission schedule and see if that helps. I'm just starting my third week on leave, so hopefully things get more predictable now.

I've been on PFMLA with Chime for about 6 months now and here's what I've noticed: the timing is way more consistent than people make it seem, but you have to understand the actual processing schedule. ESD processes PFMLA certifications in batches on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. If you submit your certification by Monday night, it gets processed Tuesday and hits Chime Wednesday morning. Submit by Wednesday night, processed Thursday, hits Friday morning. Submit by Friday night, processed Saturday, hits Monday morning. The key is submitting consistently on the same day each week - I always do mine Sunday nights and get paid every Wednesday like clockwork. The people getting random payment days are probably submitting their certifications on different days of the week. Also heads up - your first few payments might be slower while they verify everything is set up correctly, but once you're in the system it's pretty reliable.

•This is exactly the kind of detailed info I was looking for! So if I understand correctly, submitting Sunday nights would get me paid Wednesdays consistently? That would actually work perfectly with my bill schedule. I've been kind of randomly submitting whenever I remember to do it, which probably explains why I haven't seen a pattern yet. Going to try your Sunday night schedule starting this week - thanks for breaking down the actual processing days!

•@Evelyn Martinez This is incredibly helpful! I wish ESD would just publish this schedule somewhere official instead of leaving everyone guessing. I m'definitely going to try the Sunday night submission approach - having a predictable Wednesday payment would make budgeting so much easier while I m'on reduced income. Quick question though - do you submit at a specific time on Sunday nights, or does it not matter as long as it s'before Monday?

•@Evelyn Martinez Thank you so much for this breakdown! This is the most helpful explanation I ve'seen about PFMLA timing. I ve'been submitting randomly throughout the week which definitely explains why I haven t'been able to predict when payments will hit. I m'going to start doing Sunday nights too - having a consistent Wednesday deposit would be perfect for my budget planning. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain the actual processing schedule since ESD doesn t'make this clear anywhere!

•@Evelyn Martinez Wow, this is game-changing information! I ve'been stressing about not knowing when my PFMLA payments would hit my Chime account, but your explanation makes so much sense. I had no idea ESD processed in those specific batches - explains why the timing seemed so random when I was submitting on different days. I m'definitely switching to Sunday night submissions starting this week. Having that predictable Wednesday deposit will be such a relief for managing my reduced income budget. Thank you for sharing your experience - this should honestly be pinned somewhere!

I've been on PFMLA with Chime for about 3 months and want to add something that might help - if your payment doesn't hit when expected, check your ESD account online before panicking. Sometimes there are small issues with your certification that put it in "pending review" status, but the website doesn't always send you an alert about it. I've had this happen twice where I thought ESD was just being slow, but actually they needed me to clarify something on my form. Once I fixed it, payment came through normally. Also, keep screenshots of your submitted certifications with timestamps - it's saved me when I had to prove I submitted on time during a payment dispute.

•Great advice about checking the ESD account online! I didn't realize certifications could get stuck in pending review without proper notifications. That screenshot tip is really smart too - I can see how having proof of submission timing would be crucial if there's ever a dispute. I'll make sure to document everything going forward. It's frustrating that ESD doesn't have better automated alerts for these kinds of issues, but at least knowing to check manually helps avoid unnecessary stress when payments are delayed.

I've been using Chime with PFMLA for about 4 months now and the timing has been pretty consistent for me. What I've found is that it really depends on when you submit your weekly certification - if I submit on Sunday evening, I typically see the deposit hit my Chime account by Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning. The key is being consistent with your submission day. Also, make sure you're completing every section of the certification properly because any missing info can delay processing by several days. One tip that's helped me: set up a recurring reminder on your phone to submit at the same time each week. It takes the guesswork out of when you'll get paid and makes budgeting much easier when you're already dealing with reduced income.

•This is really helpful! I'm just starting out with PFMLA and Chime, so hearing about everyone's consistent experiences with Sunday submissions is reassuring. I was worried the timing would be completely unpredictable, but it sounds like if I stick to a regular schedule it should become pretty reliable. Setting up that phone reminder is a great idea too - with everything else going on during leave, it's easy to forget these administrative tasks. Thanks for the tip about completing every section properly - I'll make sure to double-check everything before submitting to avoid any delays.

I've been dealing with PFMLA and Chime for the past 8 months and wanted to share what I've learned about the payment timing. The most important thing is establishing a routine - I submit my certifications every Sunday night before 11 PM and consistently get deposits on Wednesday mornings around 6-7 AM. One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is that holiday weeks can throw off the schedule. If Monday is a federal holiday, ESD's processing gets pushed back a day, so your Wednesday deposit might not hit until Thursday. Also, if you're doing intermittent leave (like a few days a week), make sure you're accurately reporting your work days vs leave days on the certification - any discrepancies can trigger a manual review that delays payment by 5-7 business days. My advice: pick a consistent day/time to submit, keep detailed records of your submissions and deposits to track your personal pattern, and always submit early in the week if possible to avoid weekend processing delays. The system is actually pretty predictable once you figure out the rhythm.

•This is incredibly detailed and helpful - thank you for sharing 8 months of experience! The holiday timing tip is something I never would have thought about, but makes total sense that federal holidays would push back ESD processing. I'm definitely going to start keeping a log of my submission dates and payment dates like you suggested. It sounds like once you get into the rhythm, PFMLA with Chime is actually pretty predictable. I'm feeling much more confident about planning my finances now. Really appreciate everyone who shared their experiences in this thread!

I've been on PFMLA with Chime for about 2 months and can confirm what others are saying about consistency being key. I submit every Sunday around 8 PM and get my deposits Wednesday mornings between 5-6 AM like clockwork. The first payment took almost a week, but after that it's been super reliable. One thing that really helped me was calling ESD's PFMLA line (833-717-2273) during my first week to confirm my direct deposit info was set up correctly. The wait time was brutal (over 2 hours), but it gave me peace of mind that everything was configured properly on their end. Also, if you're planning bills around these payments, I'd recommend giving yourself a 1-day buffer just in case. Even though mine comes Wednesday mornings consistently, I schedule my automatic payments for Thursday to avoid any potential overdraft issues. Better safe than sorry when you're already dealing with reduced income stress!

•That's a really smart approach with the 1-day buffer for bill scheduling! I was just thinking about this exact issue - even if the payments are consistent, having that extra day cushion is probably worth it for peace of mind. The reduced income stress is real, so avoiding any potential overdraft fees is definitely the way to go. I might try calling that PFMLA line too, even though 2+ hours sounds brutal. It would be good to double-check that everything is set up correctly on my end before I get too deep into this routine. Thanks for sharing your timeline - it's reassuring to hear that after the first payment, it really does become predictable!

I've been on PFMLA with Chime for about 5 months now and wanted to add my experience to help with your planning. I found that the key is definitely consistency with submission timing - I submit every Sunday by 10 PM and get deposits on Wednesday mornings around 6 AM almost without fail. One thing I learned the hard way is to double-check your certification before submitting. I had one payment delayed by a full week because I accidentally left a field blank that I thought was optional. Now I go through each section twice before hitting submit. Also, regarding Chime's early deposit with government benefits - it's not always 2 days early like with regular paychecks. With PFMLA, it's usually 1 day early at most. So if ESD processes on Tuesday, traditional banks might see it Wednesday, but Chime gets it Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning. Hope this helps with your budgeting! The uncertainty is definitely stressful at first, but once you establish that routine it becomes much more predictable.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to hear that the Sunday 10 PM submission routine works so consistently for you. The tip about double-checking every field is super important - I can imagine how frustrating it would be to have a payment delayed by a week just because of one missed field! I'm definitely going to be extra careful about that. It's also good to know that Chime's early deposit isn't quite as early with government benefits as it is with regular paychecks. Setting the right expectations will help me plan better. Really appreciate everyone's detailed experiences in this thread - it's making me feel much more confident about managing my finances during leave!

I'm new to PFMLA and just got my approval letter yesterday! Reading through everyone's experiences here is so reassuring - I was really worried about the unpredictable timing since I need to plan my reduced income carefully. It sounds like the Sunday night submission routine that several people mentioned is the way to go. Quick question for those who've been doing this for a while - when you submit your certification on Sunday nights, are you submitting for the week that just ended, or the upcoming week? I want to make sure I understand the timing correctly so I don't mess up my first few submissions. Also, has anyone had issues with Chime flagging these government deposits as suspicious? I've heard some people have problems with unusual deposit sources getting temporarily held. Thanks for all the detailed info everyone has shared - this thread is incredibly helpful for someone just starting out!

•Congrats on getting approved! You'll be submitting for the week that just ended - so if you submit Sunday night, you're certifying for the previous week (Monday through Sunday). The system won't let you submit for future weeks. I haven't had any issues with Chime flagging PFMLA deposits as suspicious - they seem to recognize ESD payments pretty well. Just make sure your name on your Chime account matches exactly what's on file with ESD to avoid any potential issues. One tip for your first few submissions: take your time and read each question carefully. Some of the wording can be confusing, especially around reporting work hours vs. leave hours if you're doing intermittent leave. And definitely keep screenshots of your completed certifications like others mentioned - it's saved me from having to recreate information when I had questions later. Good luck!

I've been on PFMLA with Chime for about 7 months now and wanted to share my experience since I see you're just getting started! The consistency advice everyone's giving is spot on - I submit every Sunday evening around 9 PM and get my deposits Wednesday mornings like clockwork. One thing that really helped me in the beginning was setting up a simple spreadsheet to track my submission dates and deposit dates for the first month or two. It helped me see the pattern clearly and gave me confidence in the timing. Now I don't even think about it - just submit Sunday night and know Wednesday morning I'll have my payment. Also, don't stress too much about the reduced income adjustment period. It's tough at first, but once you get into a rhythm with the predictable payment schedule, budgeting becomes much more manageable. The key is just being consistent with that Sunday night submission routine that so many people have mentioned. You've got this!
