Missing wages in ESD system after August firing - how to file with only paystubs?

I just got fired from my job last month (August) after only working there since June. Now I'm trying to file for unemployment but discovered my employer never reported my wages to Washington ESD for the quarter that just ended in September. I have all my paystubs showing what I earned, but I'm not sure how to handle this on my application. Will ESD automatically reject my claim because they don't see my wages in their system? Do I need to upload my paystubs somewhere or explain this situation in a specific part of the application? Has anyone dealt with missing wage records when applying? Really nervous about getting this right the first time since I need benefits ASAP.

This happened to me earlier this year! Don't worry - ESD has a process for this. When you fill out your application, there's a section where you can report wages that aren't showing in their system. Make sure you have PDF copies of ALL your paystubs ready to upload. They'll ask for the employer info, dates worked, and earnings for each pay period. They'll contact your employer to verify, but having documentation speeds everything up. Just be super accurate with the numbers!

Thank you so much! Do you remember which specific section of the application asks for this? I was looking through it and got overwhelmed with all the different pages.

Absolutely list those wages even if they're not in the system! On the application where it asks about your employment history, you'll need to: 1. Enter the employer information correctly (exactly as it appears on your paystubs) 2. When it asks for your wages, enter them manually based on your paystubs 3. There should be a section where you can check a box that says something like "wages not reported by employer" or similar 4. Upload your paystubs as supporting documentation I'd also recommend calling ESD directly to explain your situation once you've submitted. This helps flag your claim for proper review rather than automatic rejection.

good adivce but lol good luck actually getting though to ESD! i tried calling them 27 times last week and either got busy signals or the stupid automated message saying they're experiencing high call volume

I've had clients with this issue before. Here's what you need to know: Washington state law requires employers to report wage data quarterly, and the Q3 reporting deadline (July-Sept) isn't until late October, so technically your employer still has time to report. However, you shouldn't wait for them. Use form ESD 5208 - "Request for Wage Investigation" along with your application. This specifically addresses when wages aren't showing in the system. Upload all paystubs and also include any offer letter or employment contract if you have it. ESD will investigate, but this could add 2-3 weeks to your claim processing time. In the meantime, file your weekly claims as normal even if your initial application is pending.

Wow, thank you for the detailed information! I didn't know about that form. Does this mean I should still go ahead and complete the regular application now, and then also submit this form separately? Or do I need to wait until they reject me first?

Complete your regular application first, then immediately submit the wage investigation form. Don't wait for a rejection. The form puts your claim on a different processing track where a human reviews it rather than just the automated system. Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims during this time - that's extremely important!

this happened to my cousin and she had to wait FOREVER to get her money. its so unfair that we have to suffer because employers dont do their job reporting stuff.

Hey guys, if youre having trouble getting through to ESD on the phone, I recently used this service called Claimyr that got me through to an ESD agent in like 20 minutes after I'd been trying for days on my own! It basically calls ESD for you and holds your place in line, then calls you when an agent is about to pick up. Saved me so much frustration. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 or check out their website at claimyr.com. Seriously made dealing with this wage issue so much easier since I could actually talk to someone!

Is this legit? I'm always suspicious of services that claim to help with government stuff. Has anyone else tried it? Seems too good to be true lol.

It's definitely legitimate - I've used it twice. They don't do anything sketchy, just automate the calling process. You still talk directly to ESD yourself once connected. Was worth it to me since I wasted hours trying to get through myself.

Thanks for confirming! I might try this if I run into problems. First I'm going to gather all my paystubs and complete the application with that form everyone mentioned. Really appreciate all the help!

me and my bf both got fired from the same company back in 2023 and they didnt report his wages either!!! make sure you file your weekly claims even while waiting for them to sort out the wage thing!!! that was our mistake, we thought we had to wait and then they denied us backpayment for those weeks we didnt file weekly claims even tho it wasnt our fault!

This is a really important point! Always file your weekly claims even if your initial application is pending or has issues. You can't go back and claim weeks retroactively even if you were eligible during that time. The system makes you certify each week.

Update: Just submitted my application and found the section where I could report my wages manually! I uploaded all my paystubs and wrote a brief explanation in the comments section. Now looking for that ESD 5208 form to submit. Thank you all for the guidance - I'll keep filing my weekly claims while this gets sorted out. Hopefully they'll process everything quickly since rent is due soon... 😬

Great job! The form should be in the 'Forms' section of your eServices account, but if you can't find it, try searching directly on the ESD website. Fingers crossed for quick processing - make sure to check your account and messages daily in case they need additional information!
