Identity verification complete but claim still pending - how long until ESD payment?

Just wanted to share my experience and ask a question. My unemployment claim was disqualified for about 3 weeks due to identity verification issues. I finally sent in my driver's license and social security card with a selfie as requested and spoke directly with someone in the fraud department yesterday. They confirmed they received everything and my status changed from "disqualified" to "pending" this morning. Has anyone been through this identity verification process recently? How long did it take to actually get paid after your status changed to pending? I've already been waiting over a month total and my landlord is getting impatient. Really need to know if I'm looking at days or weeks here. The agent I talked to was super vague about timeframes.

Mine took exactly 9 days to go from pending to paid after ID verification. This was back in January. But i've heard they're moving faster now in 2025. Did they tell you to keep filing your weekly claims during this time? Make sure you dont miss any weeks!!

Yes! I've been filing every week despite the disqualification. The fraud agent emphasized I needed to keep doing that. 9 days isn't too bad... I can probably hold off my landlord that long. Did your pending status change to something else before you got paid?

The timeframe varies significantly based on claim complexity and current ESD workload. Typically, once identity is verified and status changes to pending, you're looking at 5-14 business days for adjudication to complete and payment to process. Make sure all your weekly claims show as "submitted" not just "submitted - needs review" in your eServices portal. Also check if there are any additional fact-finding questionnaires in your account that need to be completed - these can cause additional delays if left unaddressed.

Thanks for the detailed info! I just checked and my weekly claims all say "submitted" but there's nothing about "needs review" - is that good? I don't see any questionnaires either. I'm hoping that means it's just in the standard processing queue and not stuck somewhere.

I went thru this EXACT thing last month!! Took them 3 weeks to verify my identity (ridiculous) and then another 11 days after status changed to pending before I got paid. hang in there!!

11 days?! Ugh that's almost two more weeks. I was hoping it would be faster since they already made me wait so long for the ID verification. Did you do anything to speed it up or just wait it out?

the ESD system is completely broken. they make us jump through hoops and then wait FOREVER. i was in the same boat last year and it took 3 weeks AFTER my identity was verified before I saw a penny. and nobody could tell me why. they just say "it's processing" like robots. meanwhile bills pile up and they don't care at all.

While I understand your frustration, the process has actually improved significantly in 2025. The average processing time for identity verification resolution is now 7-10 days, down from 2-3 weeks in previous years. The key factor is whether there are any additional issues with the claim besides identity verification. If identity was the only issue flagged, the process is typically faster.

I was having the EXACT same issue trying to get someone on the phone at ESD after my identity verification. Spent 4 days calling non-stop with no luck. Then I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an ESD agent in less than 25 minutes! They have this callback system that holds your place in line. Totally worth checking out - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent I talked to was able to see that my claim was just sitting in queue and pushed it through for processing. Got paid 2 days later!

Oh wow, I hadn't heard of this. I'll definitely check it out if I don't see any movement in the next few days. Was it difficult to use? Did the agent actually have the ability to push your claim through faster?

Super easy to use, and yes - the ESD agent I spoke with literally looked at my claim, saw it was verified but just sitting in queue, and moved it to active processing. Not all agents will do this, but if you explain your hardship situation (like potential eviction) they're more likely to help. Worth a shot!

My brother had to do the ID verification thing and it took about 4 business days after his status changed to get his money. But my coworker said hers took like 3 weeks? I think it depends on how busy they are honestly.

The inconsistency is what's driving me crazy! Seems like it could be anywhere from a few days to several weeks. I wish they'd just give us a realistic timeline when we talk to them.

To give you the most accurate information: Once your identity is verified and your claim moves from disqualified to pending status, there are typically two remaining steps: 1. Final adjudication review (2-5 business days) 2. Payment processing (1-3 business days after adjudication) So the total timeline is generally 3-8 business days, but can extend to 10-14 days during high volume periods. If you're approaching the 14-day mark with no movement, I'd recommend contacting ESD again and requesting a status update specifically on whether your claim is still in adjudication or if there are additional issues that weren't previously disclosed. Pro tip: The ESD call center tends to have shorter wait times on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 1-3pm.

Thank you for breaking this down! I didn't realize there was still an adjudication step after the identity verification. That explains why there's still a wait. I'll give it until next week and then try calling during those times if nothing changes. Really appreciate the detailed explanation.

I was able to speak with an actual person in the fraud department. I called over and over for 2 days until I finally got through. They confirmed they had my documents and said they would review them right away. The status changed the next morning.

Update: I should mention that if you have weeks that were previously disqualified specifically due to the identity verification issue, those should be automatically reconsidered once your identity is verified. You don't need to file appeals for those weeks. However, if your claim involves other issues (separation reason, availability for work, etc.), those would require separate resolution processes. Also, keep an eye on your dashboard for a potential backdated payment for those previously disqualified weeks.

This is great news! Yes, my weeks were disqualified purely because of the identity verification issue. So it sounds like I should eventually get backpay for all those weeks too? That would be such a relief.

anybody else notice how they always make us verify our identity but they never give a straight answer about anything???? make us wait weeks and weeks but if we're ONE DAY late filing a weekly claim we're completely cut off. system is rigged against us.

I've actually had good experiences with ESD when I explain my situation clearly. They even helped me file a late weekly claim once when I had a family emergency. Maybe try requesting a supervisor next time you call? They can often provide more detailed answers.

lol ok sure whatever you say. some of us dont have hours to waste on hold trying to reach a "supervisor". must be nice.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that my claim switched from pending to paid this morning! It took exactly 6 business days after my identity was verified. All of my previously disqualified weeks were also approved and show as paid now. Thank you all for your help and advice - going to be checking my bank account obsessively for the next couple days!

Great news! The payment typically posts to your account within 24-48 hours after the status changes to paid. Glad to hear your previously disqualified weeks were also approved - that's exactly how the system should work once identity is confirmed. Thanks for updating the thread!

Thanks for coming back and letting us know! It really helps other people going through the same thing to know the timeframes.

Congratulations on getting your claim approved! Your timeline of 6 business days is actually pretty typical for what we've been seeing in 2025. For anyone else going through this process, it's really encouraging to see that the system worked as it should once identity verification was complete. The fact that all your previously disqualified weeks were automatically reconsidered is exactly what should happen - no appeals needed when it's solely an identity issue. Hope your payment hits your account soon!

This is such a relief to hear! I'm in a similar situation right now - just finished my identity verification last week and my status changed to pending 3 days ago. Seeing that yours processed in 6 business days gives me hope that mine should be coming soon too. The waiting is the worst part, especially when you're behind on bills. Did you get any notification when it changed from pending to paid, or did you just have to keep checking your account?
