How to get remaining balance unemployment benefits - Washington ESD account not showing amounts
I've been on unemployment for about 8 weeks now and I'm trying to figure out how much money I have left on my claim. When I log into my Washington ESD account through SecureAccess Washington, I can see my weekly benefit amount but I can't find anywhere that shows my remaining balance or how many weeks I have left. I tried calling the customer service line but after waiting 45 minutes I got disconnected. Is there a way to see this information online or do I have to keep calling until I get through to someone?

You should be able to see your benefit year balance in your account somewhere. Check under the 'Claim Summary' section when you log in.

•I looked there but it only shows my weekly benefit amount, not the total remaining balance. Maybe my account isn't displaying everything correctly?

•Sometimes the website glitches and doesn't show all the info. Try logging out completely and clearing your browser cache before logging back in.

In Washington, regular UI benefits are typically 26 weeks worth, so you can calculate roughly how much you have left by multiplying your weekly amount by the remaining weeks. But the exact balance should show up in your account under 'Benefit Information' or 'Payment History'.

•That makes sense for the calculation, but I really want to see the exact amount. I'll keep looking for that section you mentioned.

•be careful with that calculation tho because if you had any deductions or partial payments it might not be accurate

I had the same problem getting through to Washington ESD on the phone - took me weeks of trying! I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an agent who could tell me my exact remaining balance. They have this demo video (https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ) that shows how it works. The agent was able to pull up my account and give me all the details I couldn't see online.

•Never heard of Claimyr before, does it actually work for getting through to Washington ESD? I've been trying to call for two weeks with no luck.

•Yeah it worked for me. Saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals or disconnected. The agent I talked to was super helpful and answered all my questions about my claim.

•how much does something like that cost though? seems like we shouldnt have to pay extra just to talk to someone at Washington ESD

When you're logged into your Washington ESD account, look for a tab or link that says 'Monetary Determination' or 'Benefit Year Information'. That's usually where they show your total benefit amount for the year and what you've already received.

•Found it! It was under a different section than I expected. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

•Great! What section was it under? Might help other people looking for the same info.

ugh the washington esd website is so confusing, they hide important information in weird places and then wonder why everyone calls them constantly

•I agree the interface could be better, but once you know where to look it's not too bad. The phone system is definitely the bigger problem.

•at least we have online access now, remember when you had to mail everything in?

You can also request your benefit information by secure message through your Washington ESD account if you can't find it displayed anywhere. It takes a few days to get a response but they'll send you a detailed breakdown.

•That's a good backup option. I did find the info online but it's good to know about the secure message feature.

•I tried the secure message thing and never got a response after 2 weeks. Phone is probably faster if you can get through.

Make sure you're looking at the right benefit year too. If you've had claims in previous years, sometimes the system defaults to showing old information instead of your current active claim.

•Good point, I'll double check that the dates match my current claim period.

The payment history section should also show you a running total of what you've received so far, which you can subtract from your total benefit amount to get your remaining balance.

•That's basically what I do. My total was $8,450 and I've received about $3,200 so far, so I know I have around $5,250 left.

•smart way to keep track of it yourself instead of relying on the website

If you're still having trouble finding your balance info, I'd recommend trying Claimyr to get through to an agent. I used it last month when I couldn't figure out why my claim was showing a weird balance. The agent explained that I had some deductions I wasn't aware of that were affecting my total.

•What kind of deductions were they? I want to make sure I'm not missing something on my claim too.

•It was taxes that I had elected to have withheld but forgotten about. Also had a small overpayment from a previous year that was being deducted automatically.

sometimes the benefit balance doesnt update right away after you file your weekly claim, might need to wait a day or two for it to refresh

•That might explain why some of the numbers seemed off when I was looking earlier.

•Yeah the system usually updates overnight on Sundays after everyone files their weekly claims.

For anyone else looking for this info - the exact location in your Washington ESD account is: Login > Claims > View Claim Details > Monetary Information. It shows your weekly benefit amount, total benefit amount for the year, and how much you've already received.

Keep in mind that if you're getting close to exhausting your regular benefits, you might be eligible for extended benefits depending on the unemployment rate. But that's a whole different process to apply for.

•Good to know, I'm still early in my claim but I'll keep that in mind for later.

•Extended benefits aren't always available, depends on the state's unemployment numbers each quarter.

I use Claimyr whenever I need to talk to Washington ESD about anything complicated. Way better than spending hours on hold or getting disconnected. Last time I used it was to get clarification on my remaining weeks and the agent walked me through exactly how they calculate it.

•Is it worth it even for simple questions like checking your balance? Seems like that info should be available online.

•If you can find it online then no, but if the website isn't showing what you need or you have other questions too, then yeah it's definitely worth it.

Pro tip: screenshot or write down your balance info when you find it online, because sometimes the website goes down or has issues and you'll want to have that info saved somewhere.
