How long for unemployment to be approved - Washington ESD timeline?
Filed my unemployment claim with Washington ESD two weeks ago and still waiting for approval. My claim status just says 'pending' and I haven't received any correspondence. I lost my job at a retail store due to store closure, so it should be straightforward. How long does it typically take for Washington ESD to approve claims? I'm starting to worry something went wrong with my application.

Generally takes 2-4 weeks if there are no issues with your claim. Since you were laid off due to store closure, that's a clear case for approval. The delay might just be processing volume. Have you checked your SecureAccess Washington account for any pending items?

•Yeah I check SAW daily but nothing shows up as needing attention. Just says pending adjudication.

•Adjudication can take longer - sometimes 4-6 weeks depending on their workload. At least you know it's being reviewed.

I've been waiting 3 weeks for my claim approval too. Filed right after getting terminated and still nothing. The waiting is killing me financially.

•Same here! Bills are piling up and I can't even get through on the phone to ask about status.

•Have you tried calling early morning? I heard that's the best time to reach someone at Washington ESD.

When I was going through this last year, I discovered claimyr.com after weeks of trying to reach Washington ESD. It's a service that helps you get through to an actual agent without waiting on hold forever. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me so much frustration.

•Is that legit? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

•Yeah it's real - they basically handle the calling and waiting for you, then connect you when an agent picks up. Way better than spending hours on hold.

•Interesting, never heard of that service before. Might be worth checking out if the regular phone lines aren't working.

For straightforward layoffs like yours, approval usually happens within 3-4 weeks. The system is still backlogged from increased volume. Make sure you're filing your weekly claims even while pending - that's important for when you do get approved.

•Yes I've been doing my weekly claims religiously. Good to know that's the right approach.

•Wait, you can file weekly claims before approval? I thought you had to wait until your claim was approved first.

•No, you should definitely file weekly claims while pending. Otherwise you might lose those weeks when you get approved.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've been waiting 5 WEEKS for my claim to be approved and no one will tell me why. This is ridiculous - people need money to survive!

•I feel your frustration. Have you tried contacting your state representative? Sometimes they can help with Washington ESD issues.

•Didn't think of that. At this point I'll try anything. Thanks for the suggestion.

Timeline depends on your specific situation. Simple layoffs: 2-4 weeks. If there's any question about your separation (like misconduct allegations), it goes to adjudication which can take 6-8 weeks. Store closure should be straightforward though.

•That's reassuring. I have the letter from my employer stating the store was closing permanently.

•Keep that letter handy - you might need to upload it if they request additional documentation.

•Thanks, gives me some hope that it's normal to wait this long.

I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier when I couldn't reach Washington ESD about my pending claim. Actually worked - got connected to an agent who explained my claim was just in regular processing queue and should be approved soon. Worth trying if you're stuck.

•How much does it cost? I'm already tight on money.

•It's reasonable considering the alternative is spending entire days trying to get through. Check their website for details.

My claim took exactly 21 days to get approved. Filed on a Monday, got the approval letter on a Friday three weeks later. Keep checking your account and be patient.

•That's helpful to know! I'm at day 14 so hopefully just one more week.

•Mine was approved right at the 3 week mark too. Seems like that's their standard timeline for simple cases.

Whatever you do, don't stop filing your weekly claims while waiting. I made that mistake and lost 2 weeks of benefits when I finally got approved. Washington ESD doesn't backdate those automatically.

•Good to know! I've been filing every week just in case.

•Smart move. That's exactly what you should be doing.

The waiting is the worst part. But for a store closure situation like yours, approval is pretty much guaranteed. Washington ESD just has to process everything manually and they're swamped. Hang in there!

•Thanks for the encouragement. Really needed to hear that today.

I actually called Washington ESD using that Claimyr thing and found out my claim was approved but the letter got lost in the mail. Saved me weeks of unnecessary waiting and worrying. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person.

•Wow, that's exactly what I'm worried about. Maybe I should try calling too.

•Yeah, mail delays are real. Getting through by phone is definitely the fastest way to get current status.

Keep filing those weekly claims and checking your account. For straightforward layoffs, 2-4 weeks is normal. If it goes beyond 4 weeks, that's when you should definitely try to contact them directly.

•Perfect, that gives me a clear timeline. I'll wait until week 4 before getting really worried.

anyone else think 2-4 weeks is too long when people are struggling to pay rent? the system needs to be faster

•Agreed, but at least it's better than it was during the pandemic when people waited months.

•True, I guess I should be grateful it's not worse than that.
