How long does a pending adjudication take for unemployment with Washington ESD?
My Washington ESD unemployment claim has been stuck in pending adjudication for almost 6 weeks now and I'm starting to panic. Filed my initial claim back in early November and everything seemed fine at first - was getting my weekly payments no problem. Then suddenly 6 weeks ago my weekly claim went to pending and shows 'adjudication in progress' on my account. I've called the customer service line probably 50 times and either get hung up on or told there's nothing they can tell me about the timeline. My landlord is getting impatient and I'm behind on everything. Has anyone else dealt with this? How long does adjudication actually take? I have no idea what triggered it - I've been reporting my part-time work hours correctly every week.

I went through the same thing last year and it took 8 weeks total. The waiting is the worst part because they don't tell you anything about what's happening or when it might be resolved.

•8 weeks?? That's insane. Did they ever explain what the hold up was or did it just randomly get approved one day?

•They never explained anything. Just got a letter one day saying my claim was approved and all the back pay showed up in my account about a week later.

•At least you got the back pay. I'm worried they're going to find some reason to deny everything.

Adjudication timelines vary a lot depending on what triggered the review. Common reasons include employer disputes, work search verification, or income reporting discrepancies. The official timeline Washington ESD gives is 'several weeks' but I've seen cases take anywhere from 4-12 weeks depending on complexity.

•I can't think of anything that would have triggered it. I've been super careful about reporting my part-time hours and I haven't had any issues with my employer.

•Sometimes it's random quality control checks too. They might just be verifying your employment history or checking your job search activities. Try to stay patient even though I know it's frustrating.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD by phone, you might want to check out Claimyr. It's a service that helps people get connected to ESD agents without having to deal with the busy signals and long hold times. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. I used it last month when my claim was stuck and was able to get through to someone who could actually see what was going on with my adjudication.

•Never heard of that before. Is it legit? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

•Yeah it's legitimate. You can check it out at claimyr.com. Basically they help you get through the phone queue so you don't have to keep calling over and over. Saved me hours of frustration.

•Interesting, I might have to look into that too. I've been trying to get through for weeks about my own adjudication issue.

The Washington ESD phone system is absolutely broken. I've been calling for 3 weeks straight and can't get through to anyone. They need to hire more staff or fix their system because this is ridiculous.

•Right?? I've probably wasted 20+ hours just trying to get someone on the phone. It's like they don't want to help people.

Hugh Intensity
•Exactly! And meanwhile we're supposed to just wait indefinitely while our bills pile up. The whole system is broken.

mine was in adjudication for 4 weeks earlier this year. turned out my previous employer had disputed my claim even though I was laid off. once they sorted that out everything was fine but the waiting was awful

•How did you find out it was an employer dispute? Did someone at ESD tell you or did you just figure it out eventually?

•I finally got through to someone on the phone who told me. before that I had no idea what was going on

I'm going through the same thing right now. Week 5 of adjudication and no end in sight. The stress is killing me because I don't know if I should be looking for other solutions or just keep waiting.

•Same boat here. I've been applying for jobs but also trying to figure out if I should be doing something else to speed this up.

•Let me know if you find anything that works. I'm running out of options and patience.

•Keep filing your weekly claims even during adjudication. If you're approved, you'll get back pay for all the weeks you filed. If you stop filing, you could lose those weeks entirely.

Washington ESD adjudication is basically a black hole. You put your claim in and have no idea when or if it'll come back out. I've heard of people waiting 3+ months for resolution.

•3+ months?? Please tell me that's not normal. I can't wait that long.

•That's the extreme end but it does happen. Most people seem to get resolved in 6-10 weeks from what I've seen on forums.

Update on the Claimyr thing - I used it again yesterday to check on something else and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They were able to pull up my claim history and explain exactly what was happening with my case. Way better than the endless calling and busy signals.

•Ok you've convinced me. Going to check out that website today and see if I can get some actual answers about my adjudication.

•Is there a cost for using Claimyr or is it free?

•There is a cost but honestly it was worth it for me to get answers instead of wasting more time calling. Check their website for current pricing.

I work for a company that deals with unemployment claims and I can tell you that adjudication delays are usually due to staffing shortages at Washington ESD. They're processing claims as fast as they can but there's a backlog.

•Any insider tips on how to speed things up or get priority somehow?
0 coins
Val Rossi
•Not really. The system processes claims in order and they can't skip ahead unless there's a genuine emergency situation. Best thing is to be patient and keep filing your weekly claims.

Has anyone tried contacting their state representative about adjudication delays? I'm wondering if that might help move things along.

Statiia Aarssizan
•I hadn't thought of that. Might be worth a try if I can't get through to ESD directly.

Aria Khan
•That's usually a last resort option. Most representatives will tell you to work through the normal ESD channels first.

Mine took exactly 7 weeks and 2 days. I know because I was counting every single day. Just got approved last week and received all my back pay.

Statiia Aarssizan
•That gives me hope! Did you do anything special to get it resolved or did it just happen automatically?

Clarissa Flair
•I think it just worked through the system automatically. Never got any explanation for the delay.

The whole adjudication process is designed to discourage people from claiming benefits. They make it as difficult and time-consuming as possible hoping people will just give up.

•I'm starting to think you might be right. The lack of communication is the worst part.

•That's a pretty cynical view. I think they're just understaffed and overwhelmed with the volume of claims.

Try logging into your account at different times of day. Sometimes you'll see status updates that weren't there before. I noticed mine had changed to 'under review' about a week before it was approved.

•I check it obsessively but it's been saying the same thing for weeks. I'll keep watching for any changes though.

Whatever you do, don't stop filing your weekly claims during adjudication. I made that mistake and lost 3 weeks of benefits that I couldn't get back.

Statiia Aarssizan
•Good to know. I've been filing every week even though nothing is getting paid out. It feels pointless but I'll keep doing it.

Rudy Cenizo
•It's definitely not pointless. Those weekly filings are what will get you your back pay once the adjudication is resolved.

I used Claimyr about 2 months ago when I was dealing with an overpayment issue. Got connected to an agent who was able to explain the situation and help me set up a payment plan. Definitely worth checking out if you're stuck.

My adjudication took 9 weeks and when it was finally resolved, they denied my claim anyway. All that waiting for nothing. Hope you have better luck than I did.
0 coins
Statiia Aarssizan
•Oh no, that's my worst fear. Did they give you a reason for the denial? Were you able to appeal?

Daryl Bright
•They said I was terminated for misconduct which wasn't true. I'm appealing but that's another long process.

The waiting is the hardest part. Try to stay busy and don't check your account 50 times a day like I did. It'll get resolved eventually.

•Easier said than done but I know you're right. The obsessive checking isn't helping anything.

Just want to say hang in there. I know 6 weeks feels like forever but most adjudications do get resolved. Keep filing your weeklies and try to stay positive.

Have you tried calling first thing in the morning when they open? I had better luck getting through around 8 AM compared to later in the day.

•I've tried every time slot imaginable. Morning, lunch, afternoon, doesn't seem to matter. Always busy signals or getting disconnected.

Update us when your adjudication gets resolved! I'm in week 4 myself and could use some hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel.

•I definitely will. Hopefully we both get some good news soon. This whole process is exhausting.
