How long after contacting governor's office will ESD finish adjudication?

So I finally broke down and contacted the governor's office about my unemployment claim last week because it's been stuck in adjudication for over 2 months!! I got a call back from someone at the governor's office yesterday who said they'd

In my experience, having the governor's office involved speeds things up considerably. My claim was stuck for 6 weeks, contacted the governor's office, and ESD called me within 4 business days to resolve my issues. The adjudicator actually told me they prioritize cases that come through the governor's office. Make sure you answer your phone even if it's an unknown number - they often call from blocked numbers.

Really?? 4 days would be amazing! Did they just call out of the blue or did the governor's office contact you first to let you know ESD would be calling?

Did you follow up with them again? Sometimes these escalations get lost in the system. I had to contact the governor's office TWICE before I saw any movement on my claim.

The timeframe varies widely based on the complexity of your adjudication issue. Simple identity verification issues might be resolved within 1-2 weeks after governor intervention, while more complex issues involving employer disputes or availability questions can take 3-4 weeks even with escalation. The important thing is that your claim is now flagged as escalated in their system, which does move it up in priority. \n\nWhile you wait, make sure you continue filing your weekly claims without interruption. Also double-check your eServices account daily for any new questionnaires or fact-finding interviews that might be scheduled - sometimes they add these with very little notice.

Thanks for the detailed info. My issue is they're questioning my job separation reason (I said laid off, employer said I quit). Sounds like I might be in the 3-4 week category then. And yes, I've been religiously filing my weekly claims even though nothing's being paid.

This is actually good advice. I had a similar experience where the governor's office didn't help much, but my state senator's office got things moving quickly. It probably depends on which staffers handle your case and how busy they are at the time.

After I contacted the governor's office, I waited about 10 days before seeing any movement. The weird thing was that ESD never actually called me - my claim status just suddenly changed from

my neighbor works for esd (not in claims tho) and she says governor escalations usually take 2-3 weeks to process but sometimes longer if its complicated or they need more info from your employer

That's helpful insight. I'm worried mine is complicated since it involves a dispute with my former employer. Guess I'll plan for the 3+ week timeline and hope for the best.

If you're desperate to get through to ESD directly while waiting for the governor's office process, I used a service called Claimyr last month and it actually worked. They got me through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks with no luck. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Their website is claimyr.com. I was super skeptical but it seriously worked and the agent I spoke with was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim.

I've heard of this service but was worried it was a scam. Did you actually get your issue resolved by the ESD agent they connected you with?

Yes! The agent I spoke to was able to see that I was missing a specific document they needed but their system had failed to notify me. I uploaded it while on the phone with them and my claim was processed 3 days later.

One important thing - make sure you document EVERYTHING. Write down the date you contacted the governor's office, the name of who you spoke with, any case/reference numbers they gave you, and keep notes on all subsequent communications. If you end up needing to escalate further (like to your state rep as someone suggested), having this timeline documented will help tremendously.

Good point. I did get the name of the person I spoke with and they gave me a reference number for the escalation. I'll start keeping better notes of everything going forward.

anybody else notice how much worse esd has gotten lately?? my first claim in 2022 was approved in like 2 weeks but now everyone i know is stuck in ajidacation for months! what happened??

ESD had significant staffing reductions after the pandemic surge. They had hired hundreds of temporary staff to handle the increased claims during 2020-2021, but most of those positions were eliminated by 2022-2023. The system is essentially back to pre-pandemic staffing levels, but with more complex rules and verification requirements that were implemented to combat the fraud that occurred during the pandemic.

Wait so you've been waiting 2 months in adjudication and JUST NOW contacted the governor's office? I would have done that after 3 weeks max! For what it's worth, when I had an issue last year and went through the governor's office route, it took exactly 2 weeks from my contact with them until my claim was resolved. They told me 10-15 business days was their typical timeframe for these escalations.

I kept calling ESD directly hoping to get through. I didn't even know contacting the governor was an option until I found this forum! Lesson learned for sure.
