Finally got ESD decision after contacting governor's office - timeline & results

After 9 weeks in adjudication hell with zero movement on my claim, I finally broke down and contacted the governor's office about my ESD claim last Thursday. I was desperate after being laid off from my construction management job and burning through savings. Has anybody else gone this route? How long did it take after you contacted them to actually see movement on your claim? I'm wondering what timeline to expect since I haven't heard anything back yet. Getting really anxious about making next month's rent payment if this drags on much longer.

I had a surprisingly good experience going through the governor's office. After 11 weeks stuck in adjudication with no movement, I submitted the online form on the governor's website explaining my situation. Got a call from someone in their constituent services dept within 3 business days, and then my claim was approved exactly 5 days after that call. They apparently have special liaisons that can escalate directly to ESD management. Make sure you included your claim ID number and full contact info in your message to them.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I did include all my claim info and contact details. Really hoping I hear something this week then. 3 business days plus 5 more would be amazing compared to the endless waiting I've been doing.

governor's office is useless tbh. i tried that route 2 months ago and still nothing. all they do is send your info to the same esd people ignoring you in the first place. good luck tho hope it works better for u

That wasn't my experience at all. I contacted the governor's office in January, got a call back within a week, and my adjudication was resolved 9 days later. Did you follow up with them when you didn't get a response? Sometimes you have to be persistent.

maybe i got unlucky then. they told me they "escalated" my case but nothing ever came of it. been stuck in adjudication since november 2024

I tried literally everything to get through to ESD with no luck for TWO MONTHS. The regular phone lines are a joke - either busy signals or they disconnect you after waiting for hours. Finally found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an actual ESD agent in less than 30 minutes! Cost money but was totally worth it to finally talk to someone who could help. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 if you want to check it out. I got my adjudication cleared up within 2 days after speaking with the agent.

I've been looking at that Claimyr site after seeing it mentioned here before. Did you talk to an actual claims specialist or just the frontline person? I'm getting desperate enough to try anything at this point.

They connected me to a frontline person first, but I asked to be transferred to a claims specialist who could actually see my adjudication notes. The specialist was able to see what was holding things up (missing employer response) and pushed it through for review. Definitely worth trying if the governor's office route doesn't work out quickly.

The governor's office route can be effective, but the timeline varies wildly based on the complexity of your claim issues and current ESD workloads. In my professional experience, most people see movement within 7-14 days after the governor's office contact. Here's what typically happens behind the scenes: 1. Governor's office receives your request and logs it (1-2 days) 2. Request gets assigned to a constituent services rep (1-3 days) 3. Rep contacts ESD through their special escalation channel (1-2 days) 4. ESD reviews your claim with higher priority (2-7 days) 5. Decision is made and implemented (1-3 days) If you haven't heard anything after 5 business days from contacting them, call the governor's constituent services line directly to follow up. Be polite but persistent.

This is incredibly helpful - thank you for breaking down the process! Tomorrow will be 5 business days so I'll give them a call if I don't hear anything by then. Really appreciate the insight into how it works.

i contacted them last month and got a decision in 6 days!!! but my situation was pretty straightforward (employer didn't contest). my friend waited almost 3 weeks after contacting the governor before her issue was fixed. i think it really depends on whats holding up your claim?

That makes sense. My employer is claiming I quit but I was actually laid off when they lost a major contract. So there's definitely some back-and-forth happening with that dispute.

Just want to add - make sure you're still filing your weekly claims even while waiting for adjudication to complete! I've seen so many people get their adjudication finally cleared only to discover they missed filing weeks and lost out on those benefits. ESD won't automatically pay you for weeks you didn't file, even if you were eligible the entire time.

Yes! I've been religiously filing every Sunday morning. One of the few things I'm doing right in this process lol. Thanks for the reminder though - I've heard horror stories of people missing out on thousands because they thought they couldn't file during adjudication.

Good luck getting anything done w/ ESD! Their system is completely broken. I've been waiting 14 weeks now, contacted governor, legislators, even tried getting help from the ombudsman office. They all say the same thing - "we'll look into it" and then NOTHING happens. This whole system needs to be scrapped and rebuilt from scratch.

I understand your frustration, but I've actually seen the governor's office route work for many people. The key is being very specific about your claim details and following up consistently. Have you tried calling the governor's office directly after submitting your request? Sometimes a personal touch makes a difference.

Maybe I'll try calling them again. At this point I've lost all hope but what else can I do? Can't even get through to a human at ESD to ask about my claim status!

Quick update to my earlier comment - I just remembered the timeline more clearly. After contacting the governor's office, I got an email response in 2 days saying they'd forwarded my case to their ESD liaison. Then I got a call from an ESD specialist 4 days after that, who told me they were expediting my review. My adjudication was completed and benefits paid 3 days after that call. So about 9 days total from governor contact to resolution.

Thank you for the clarification! That timeline still sounds incredible compared to the silence I've been getting directly from ESD. I'll update here once I hear something - hopefully with good news.

UPDATE: Just got a call this morning from someone at ESD! They said they received my case from the governor's office yesterday and were putting it on priority review. The agent couldn't give me an exact timeline but said they're working to resolve it this week. So it took 6 business days from my governor's office contact to get actual movement. Will post again when I get the final decision!

nice! hope they actually fix it instead of just saying they will

That's great news! Those priority reviews typically move much faster than regular adjudication. Keep us posted on the outcome!
