ESD warned me: Multiple document uploads reset claim to adjudication status

Just had the weirdest experience with ESD that I wanted to share as a warning! After waiting 5 weeks in adjudication, an ESD rep finally called me yesterday and gave me some shocking info. They said my claim was actually APPROVED 3 weeks ago, but because I kept uploading the same documents multiple times (I was panicking!), their automated system kept flagging my claim and putting it BACK into adjudication status! The rep explained that every time you upload new docs, it can trigger their system to reset your claim status. She recommended always submitting all documentation together in one batch if possible, and NEVER resubmitting the same docs multiple times unless specifically requested. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm relieved it's approved now but frustrated I delayed my own payments by trying to be thorough. Just sharing so others don't make my mistake!

Yes, this is actually a known issue with their automated system. I work with unemployment cases regularly, and what happens is that the document processing system flags 'new information' which can trigger a review. When multiple documents come in for the same claim, especially if they're similar or duplicates, it creates confusion in the system. Best practices for ESD claims: 1. Submit ALL documentation in a single upload when possible 2. Only upload what's specifically requested 3. If you need to provide additional info, call and ask if it's necessary first 4. Use clear file names that indicate what each document is 5. Wait at least 72 hours after submitting before checking status Glad you finally got approved! The system is definitely frustrating, but there is method to the madness.

Thank you so much for confirming! I wish they explained this somewhere on their website. Do you know if this affects people on standby status too? My neighbor is on standby and I want to warn her not to make the same mistake.

omg this explains so much!!!! ive been stuck in adjucation for 9 WEEKS and i kept sending them my paystubs like 4 different times cause they never confirmed getting them. gonna stop doing that RIGHT NOW. thx for posting this!!!!

You should probably call them to check on your status now. If you've been uploading multiple times, your claim might be stuck in a loop. I was in the same situation and calling was the only thing that fixed it.

This is absolutely correct information. I'm an employment attorney and I see this issue frequently with clients. The ESD automated system uses document timestamps and metadata to track claim progression, and multiple submissions can trigger what we call "regression flags" in the system. It's particularly problematic because: 1) The system doesn't differentiate well between new evidence and duplicate submissions 2) Each new upload restarts certain internal timers 3) The adjudication queue is chronological, so you effectively lose your place in line For anyone currently waiting in adjudication: DO NOT resubmit documents unless specifically requested by an ESD representative. If you're unsure if your documents were received, check your online account for uploaded document history or call rather than resubmitting.

I tried calling ESD about this exact issue and spent 3 days getting busy signals or disconnected. Finally got through yesterday and they confirmed my claim reset TWICE because I uploaded "duplicate evidence" (which was just better quality scans of the same documents). The whole system is designed to make us fail I swear!

I had the same problem with calling - constant busy signals or getting disconnected after waiting forever. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to ESD yesterday. It cost a bit but saved me days of frustration. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The ESD agent I spoke with confirmed the same thing about document uploads - each submission is treated as "new evidence" that triggers review. Such a broken system!

To answer your question about standby status - yes, this affects ALL claim types including standby. The document processing system doesn't differentiate between regular UI, standby, or even partial unemployment claims. The same automation handles all document intake, so your neighbor should definitely avoid multiple submissions.

Thanks for confirming! I'll definitely warn her. She's only been on standby for a week so hopefully she hasn't made this mistake yet.

wait im confused... does this mean we shouldnt upload ANY documents after the initial claim? or just not the same ones twice? i have a new doctors note i need to send them but now im scared itll reset my adjudication?!?

You should still upload new, relevant documents that ESD has requested or that significantly affect your claim (like a doctor's note for availability issues). The problem is specifically with: 1) Uploading the same document multiple times 2) Uploading slightly different versions of the same document 3) Uploading documents that weren't requested and don't add new information If you have a new doctor's note that wasn't available when you first applied, that's legitimate new evidence and should be uploaded. Just be sure to clearly label it with the date and purpose when uploading.

This is actually a huge tip! When I worked at WorkSource (which partners with ESD), we were specifically trained to tell people to submit everything at once and NOT resubmit documents. Each submission triggers what they call an "intake event" in their system, and multiple intake events can cause your claim to be flagged for manual review, which pushes you back in the queue. I always advise people to organize all documents before starting the application process, and submit everything at once whenever possible. If ESD specifically requests additional documentation, of course provide it - but never send the same thing twice.

why dont they put this on there website???? im so mad right now, ive probably been delaying my own payments for MONTHS

Does anyone know if there's a way to see if your claim got reset because of this? I've been waiting for 6 weeks and now I'm paranoid that I caused delays by uploading my ID twice (the first scan was blurry).

Unfortunately, there's no way to see this in your online account. The only way to know for sure is to call and speak with an agent who can view your claim's internal status history. They can tell you if your claim was reset and exactly when.

If your claim was denied, you should immediately file an appeal. Make sure to explain in your appeal that you were attempting to provide the requested documentation multiple times because you weren't sure if it was received. Appeals have a different review process and a human will actually look at your case history. You have 30 days from the date on your denial letter to file the appeal.
