ESD telephone claim PIN reset help - can't file weekly claim by phone
I'm trying to file my weekly claim over the phone for the first time (eServices has been glitching on me all weekend), but the automated system is asking for a PIN that I've never set up. I've always filed online until now. When I try to enter my SSN, it just keeps asking for this mystery PIN. Is this different from my eServices password? How do I reset or create this PIN when I've never had one before? The website doesn't seem to have any information about telephone PINs. Any advice would be really appreciated - my claim is due tomorrow!

The telephone PIN is completely separate from your eServices password. When you first set up your claim, you should have received a letter in the mail with your initial telephone PIN. If you never used the phone system, you probably just set it aside and forgot about it. To reset your telephone PIN, you need to call the ESD telecenter at 800-318-6022 and speak with an agent. They'll verify your identity and help you reset it. Just be prepared for a long wait—the hold times are brutal right now.

•Thanks for explaining! I definitely don't remember getting a PIN letter, but it's been months since I first filed so who knows. I've been trying that number all morning but just getting the 'high call volume' message and disconnects. Is there any way to reset it online?

OMG the phone system is the WORST!!! I had the exact same problem last month. Called like 50 times and they just hang up on you! I ended up just giving up and waiting until midnight Sunday when the eServices site started working again. The whole system is designed to make it impossible to get your benefits I swear!!!

•Same here! Had to set an alarm for 12:01am to file when the site wasn't crashing. Shouldn't be this hard!

I went through this exact situation in February. The PIN for the phone system is a 4-digit code that's separate from anything else you use for ESD. There's unfortunately no way to reset it online. You have three options: 1. Keep calling the main number (800-318-6022) and hope you get through 2. Try using Claimyr.com - I used their service to get through to an agent in about 20 minutes after days of failed attempts. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 3. Try again with eServices - sometimes it works better early morning or late evening Once you do get a PIN set up, write it down somewhere safe because you'll need it anytime you use the phone system.

•Thank you for the detailed options! I hadn't heard of Claimyr before but I'll check out that video. I'm getting desperate since my claim is due tomorrow. Does calling the telecenter outside normal business hours ever work better?

Just wanted to add that you can also try calling the technical support line at 855-682-0785. Sometimes they'll help with PIN resets even though its technically the agent's job. When I called, the tech person helped me reset mine without transferring me. Worth a shot!

•The tech line worked for me last month, but it depends on who answers. If you get transferred, just immediately hang up and try again until you get someone willing to help. Also, I've had better luck getting through on Wednesdays, not Tuesdays.

UPDATE: I tried the Claimyr service that @practical_solution suggested, and I actually got through to an agent! Took about 25 minutes of waiting instead of constant busy signals. The agent was able to reset my telephone PIN and I just filed my weekly claim by phone successfully. For anyone else with this issue - definitely write down your PIN somewhere safe once you get it. Apparently they mail it with your initial claim approval letter, but I must have missed that part. Thanks everyone for the help!

•Great to hear you got it sorted out! Yes, that initial letter has a lot of information and it's easy to miss the PIN part, especially if you're planning to file online. For future reference, you can also request a PIN reset by sending a secure message through eServices once it's working again, but that takes a few days for them to process.

Lucky you got through! I might try that Claimyr thing next time the website crashes. Still think its ridiculous we have to jump through all these hoops just to file our claims. The system should just WORK!!

•Don't forget that if you miss your filing deadline because of technical issues, you can request a back-date for "good cause." Document everything - screenshots of errors, times you called, etc. ESD is required to accept late filings if their systems were the cause of the delay.
