ESD status changed to 'paid' but no deposit yet - how long until money arrives?

I've been nervously checking my ESD account multiple times a day and yesterday (March 15, 2025) I finally saw my claim status change from 'processing' to 'paid' with a dollar amount of $1,387. I'm super relieved but also confused because I checked my bank account this morning and there's no deposit yet. For anyone who's been through this before - does the 'paid' status with a dollar amount definitely mean I'll get the money? And how long does it usually take after the status changes? I'm down to my last $43 and really need this money for rent next week...

Yes, when it says 'paid' with an amount, that means the money is definitely coming! It's just a matter of timing now. For me, it usually takes 1-2 business days after the status changes to 'paid' before the money hits my bank account. Since your status changed on a Friday, you probably won't see it until Monday or Tuesday. The ESD system processes the payment right away, but bank transfers aren't instant, especially over weekends.

Thank you SO MUCH for the reassurance! I've been panicking because this is my first time on unemployment and I wasn't sure if 'paid' meant it was just approved for payment or actually sent. I'll try to relax and just check again on Monday.

The 'paid' status with a dollar amount is definitely good news and means the payment has been processed by ESD. However, the timing of when it arrives in your account depends on a few factors: 1. Whether you chose direct deposit or the ESD debit card option 2. Your specific bank's processing time for ACH transfers 3. Whether the payment was processed before or after the daily cutoff time For direct deposit, most people see the funds in 1-3 business days. If you're using the ESD debit card, it's usually faster (often next business day). If you need to reach ESD to confirm anything about your payment, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they've got a service that helps you get through to actual ESD agents without the endless hold times. I was skeptical but their video demo (https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3) shows how it works. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to check on a delayed payment.

I did choose direct deposit, so I guess I'm at the mercy of bank processing times. If I don't see anything by Tuesday, I might try that Claimyr thing. The thought of calling ESD directly is giving me anxiety after hearing horror stories about the wait times.

To clarify some information about ESD payment processing: When your claim shows 'paid' status with a dollar amount in your ESD account, this means the payment has been authorized and is in process. The Washington Employment Security Department typically processes payments within 24-48 hours after authorization, but then it enters the banking system. For direct deposit recipients: - ESD initiates the ACH transfer to your bank - This transfer typically takes 1-3 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) - Some banks place a 24-hour hold on unemployment deposits For ESD debit card users: - Funds are typically available 1 business day after the 'paid' status appears It's important to note that payments authorized on Fridays often don't appear until Monday or Tuesday due to weekend banking restrictions. If it's been more than 3 business days since the 'paid' status appeared, that would be the appropriate time to contact ESD for follow-up. The 'paid' status is indeed confirmation that your payment has been approved and is in process. Unless there's a banking issue, you will receive those funds.

TOTALLY FALSE ON THE DEBIT CARD!!! My brother and I both use the debit card option and it takes just as long (sometimes longer) than direct deposit! Last time my brother's payment showed 'paid' on a Tuesday and didn't hit his debit card until FRIDAY! The whole system is designed to make us wait as long as possible. Don't spread misinformation!

Just wondering, when did you initially file your claim? I've been waiting for mine to change from 'processing' to 'paid' for almost 3 weeks now! Did you have to do anything special to get it to move to paid status?

I filed my initial claim about 5 weeks ago, then got stuck in adjudication for some reason. I called ESD last week (took FOREVER to get through) and the agent said there was just a verification issue with my previous employer. She cleared it on the spot and said I should see movement within 72 hours, which I did. If you've been stuck for 3 weeks, you might need to call them.

YES!! Just checked my account an hour ago and the full amount is there! Such a relief. You all were right about the 1-2 business day timeline. Thanks everyone for the reassurance and information!
