ESD partial unemployment stuck in 'Processing' status - how long is normal wait time?

I started working reduced hours at my retail job (only 15 hrs/week now instead of 40) and applied for partial unemployment 3 weeks ago. My claim status just says "Processing" when I log in to my eServices account. No pending issues showing up, no requests for additional information... just "Processing". Has anyone else dealt with partial unemployment claims recently? Is it normal for them to take this long? I'm getting really worried because my rent is coming due and I was counting on having something by now. Should I keep filing weekly claims while it's stuck like this? The whole system is so confusing!

ya partial claims take forever!! mine took like 5 weeks to process back in january. keep filing your weekly claims tho or youll have to start all over when it finally gets approved

5 weeks?! Ugh, that's so long. Did they backpay you for all the weeks once it was approved? I'm filing every week but getting discouraged seeing $0.00 each time.

Partial unemployment claims tend to take longer because ESD has to verify your reduced hours with your employer. Make sure you're reporting your exact earnings each week - even a small reporting error can delay things. And yes, absolutely continue filing weekly claims during this time. When your claim is approved, they'll process payments for all eligible weeks you've claimed. In my experience, 3-5 weeks is unfortunately normal for partial UI processing right now. If it goes beyond 6 weeks, then you should try contacting them directly.

Thank you! I've been super careful about reporting my earnings accurately. My employer confirmed they received the verification request from ESD, so I guess I just need to be patient. This waiting is just so stressful when bills are piling up.

omg dont even get me started on partial unemployment!!! i had the EXACT same situation last year and it was the biggest headache ever. mine said "processing" for like 7 weeks and then randomly switched to "adjudication" for no reason!!! then magically one day everything went through and i got paid for all the weeks at once. the system is total garbage

Adding my experience - my partial claim was in processing for about 4 weeks, then adjudication for another 2. I was almost ready to give up when it suddenly approved. The problem is that partial claims trigger more verification steps in their system. Just keep filing those weekly claims!

If you want to actually get through to someone at ESD and check on your claim, try Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was stuck in processing for weeks and getting nowhere trying to call ESD directly. Claimyr got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 25 minutes, and I found out there was a small issue with my claim they needed to fix. You can see how it works in their video: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Not waiting 5+ weeks definitely made it worth it for me. The agent was able to see exactly what was causing my processing delay.

I've never heard of this service before! Did they actually help resolve your issue or just connect you to someone? I've been trying to call for days and can't get through so at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything.

They just connect you with an ESD agent, but that's the hard part! Once I got connected, the agent could see my claim and told me they needed additional verification of my reduced hours. She fixed it right there on the call. My claim was approved 2 days later.

had this happen twice now. first time took 4 weeks second time 6 weeks. they never tell u why it takes so long either its just the way they do things i guess. partial claims seem to always get flagged for extra review. btw when u get paid they do pay for all those weeks u were waiting so atleast theres that

Your situation is actually quite common with partial unemployment claims. Here's what's likely happening: 1. ESD prioritizes full unemployment claims over partial ones 2. Your employer must verify your hours reduction (this often causes delays) 3. The system automatically flags partial claims for additional review You're doing the right thing by continuing to file weekly claims. Make sure you're reporting your exact earnings each week - even a small discrepancy between what you report and what your employer reports can trigger adjudication. If your claim hasn't moved from "Processing" by week 5, I'd recommend trying to contact ESD directly. Their phone lines are difficult, but Thursday and Friday mornings (right when they open) tend to have shorter wait times. Hang in there - when your claim is approved, you'll receive all back payments for the weeks you've been claiming.

This is really helpful information, thank you! I'll give it another week or two before I start really panicking. My employer has been good about confirming everything on their end, so hopefully it's just the normal slow process. It's just so frustrating not knowing if I'm doing everything right.

Does anyone know if partial UI counts for the 3 job search requirements? I've been doing them just to be safe but my manager said I might be exempt since I'm still employed technically?

Good question! For partial unemployment, you still need to complete the 3 job search activities each week UNLESS you have a definite return date to full-time work (this is called "standby" status). If your employer indicated that your hours reduction is temporary and provided a return date, you might be exempt. You can check if you're on standby in your eServices account under the Job Search Requirements section.

I went through this exact nightmare back in October 2024. My partial UI claim was stuck in processing for almost 7 weeks. I called ESD probably 30+ times and either couldn't get through or was told "just keep waiting, it's normal." What finally worked was sending a secure message through the eServices portal specifically asking if there were any issues with my claim that weren't visible to me. Turns out they needed additional verification of my reduced hours even though my employer had already responded to them! Definitely keep filing those weekly claims. When mine finally got approved, I received all the back payments at once, which was a huge relief. The system really is broken though - they should at least tell us what's causing the delay!

I'm going to try sending a secure message right now! That's a great suggestion. Did you put anything specific in the subject line that might have gotten their attention? At this point I'll try anything.

I put "Urgent: Claim stuck in processing for X weeks - need assistance" in the subject line. I don't know if that actually helped, but I did get a response within 3 business days. Good luck!
