ESD only deducted $16 for my part-time hours and now claim needs more info - what's happening?

I'm seriously confused about my weekly claim. I reported my part-time hours exactly like I always do (worked 12 hours at $18.25/hr this week), but when I checked my benefit calculation it only shows they deducted $16 from my weekly benefit amount? That can't be right since I earned about $219 before taxes. Plus I just filed my weekly claim this morning and now I'm getting a notification saying they 'need more information' without explaining what they need. Has anyone had this happen before? Is this some kind of glitch in the system or did I mess something up? I'm worried they'll flag this as an overpayment later and I'll be stuck paying it back.

same thing happened 2 me last month! they only took like $20 when i worked 15 hrs. then next week they wanted all this extra info and ended up taking the right amount retroactively. the system is messed up sometimes

Did you have to do anything special to fix it? I'm just worried they'll say I committed fraud or something even though I reported everything correctly.

This sounds like the ESD system didn't properly calculate your earnings deduction. When you report part-time work, they're supposed to deduct 75% of your earnings from your weekly benefit amount. For 12 hours at $18.25, that should be roughly a $164 deduction, not $16. The "needs more information" notice is probably related to this discrepancy. They likely flagged your claim for manual review because the system calculation looks suspicious. You should check your eServices account for any pending adjudication issues or messages in your inbox requesting specific information.

Thank you! I just checked my eServices account and you're right - there's an "earnings verification" issue now showing up. Guess I'll need to upload my paystubs. At least it makes sense now.

IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!!! ESD system is BROKEN and they expect US to fix THEIR mistakes! I reported 20 hrs once and they took NOTHING out, then 3 weeks later they sent me an OVERPAYMENT notice for $1,200!!! Had to deal with that nightmare for MONTHS!!! Make sure you call them ASAP and get it fixed before they mess up your whole claim!!

This happened to me too, but not quite as bad. I think their system sometimes glitches with the decimal places. Like maybe your $16 deduction should've been $160? Just a guess.

Has anyone been able to actually reach ESD by phone lately? I've been trying for 3 days about a similar issue and can't get through at all - just disconnects after waiting for an hour.

I was in the same situation and was about to give up when a friend recommended Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to ESD quickly instead of calling hundreds of times. Worked great for me - I got through in about 15 minutes after trying for days on my own. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It was honestly worth it because the agent fixed my earnings calculation issue right away.

To clarify what's likely happening: When the system detects a potential earnings calculation error (like a suspiciously small deduction), it automatically flags the claim for review, which triggers the "needs more information" status. This is actually a good thing - it prevents larger problems later. Here's what you should do: 1. Upload your paystubs to your eServices account under "Upload a Document" 2. If there's a questionnaire about your earnings, complete it accurately 3. Check your Notices/Letters section daily for any specific requests 4. Continue filing your weekly claims on time even while this is being resolved The quick action by ESD suggests their system caught the calculation error, which is better than letting it continue and creating a larger overpayment issue down the road.

This is really helpful, thank you! I've uploaded my paystubs and will keep filing on time. Do you know roughly how long these reviews typically take? I'm worried about a delay in payments since rent is coming up.

i think i know whats happening - did you put in the decimal point when entering your hours? like did you type 12.00 instead of just 12? i did that once and it messed up my whole calculation

Oh wow, I might have done exactly that! I think I typed 12.0 because I'm so used to entering decimals for everything. That would explain the weird calculation.

Quick follow-up: If this was indeed caused by entering your hours as 12.0 (which the system might have read as 1.20 hours instead of 12 hours), you should explain this specifically when you talk to an ESD agent. They see this error frequently and can quickly correct it without going through a lengthy adjudication process. Just make sure to have your exact earnings information ready when you call.

That makes perfect sense! $16 is almost exactly what you'd get if they calculated 75% of (1.2 hours × $18.25). Mystery solved. I'll definitely call and explain exactly what happened. Thanks everyone for your help!
