ESD claim stuck in 'pending' since February despite employer issues being fixed - when will it process?

My husband's UI claim has been in 'pending' status since mid-February (it's been over 6 weeks now!). He's called ESD twice to figure out what's happening. First time they said his employer hadn't responded to their request for information. Second time they found incorrect dates for a previous employer and said they fixed everything. The agent promised it would be processed soon, but guess what? It's STILL showing as pending with no updates. How much longer should we expect to wait? Is there something else we should be doing? We're burning through our savings while waiting for this to be resolved. Has anyone else dealt with employers not responding or incorrect employment dates causing these ridiculous delays?

Unfortunately, pending status can last anywhere from 2-10 weeks right now. When they fix one issue, sometimes another pops up in their system. Make sure he keeps filing his weekly claims even while waiting! The good news is that once approved, he'll get backpay for all those weeks in pending status. Has he checked his eServices account to see if there's an alert or letter explaining the specific adjudication issue?

Yes, he's been religiously filing weekly claims. There's nothing in eServices explaining the hold-up - no alerts, no letters, nothing! That's what's so frustrating. Just a status that says 'pending' with no additional details. Should he call again or just keep waiting?

omg this exact thing happened to me!!! it took THREE MONTHS to get my claim fixed bc of my previous employer giving wrong info. keep calling them every week and documenting who u talk to. the squeaky wheel gets the grease w/ ESD!!!

Three months?! That's insane. Did you do anything special to finally get it resolved, or did it just eventually process after enough calls?

i just kept calling and calling, eventually got someone who actually knew what they were doing and fixed it on the spot. but yeah, 3 months of weekly claims all paid at once. weird feeling getting that much $ at once after being broke so long lol

What's happening is your husband's claim is in adjudication. This is completely normal when there are discrepancies between what your husband reported and what employers reported. Here's what you need to know: 1. Average adjudication timeframe is currently 7-9 weeks (as of April 2025) 2. Continue filing weekly claims religiously 3. Make sure all contact information is updated in case they need to reach him 4. Check eServices daily for new correspondence 5. Respond immediately to any requests for information The employer response issue and the date correction are likely both being reviewed by an adjudicator. They have to verify all information before approving benefits. Unfortunately, there's no way to expedite this process unless there's a dire financial hardship (eviction notice, utility shut-off notice).

Thank you for such a detailed response. It helps to at least understand what's happening. We'll keep filing and checking eServices. I just wish they were more transparent about how long the process actually takes.

Happened to me back in January. My claim was pending for 2 months because my employer disputed my termination reason. ESD is ABSOLUTELY SWAMPED right now because of all the tech layoffs. The adjudication department is backed up. I tried calling almost every day and never got through until I found this service called Claimyr. It basically holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me HOURS of redial hell. Check their website claimyr.com - they have a video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 When I finally got through, the agent was able to tell me exactly what was happening with my claim and gave me a timeframe. Much better than being in the dark.

Is this legit? Sounds sketchy to have a third party involved with something that has all your personal info...

ESD IS BROKEN. My claim took FOUR MONTHS to process because of an "employer response issue" that turned out to be NOTHING!!! The employer HAD responded but ESD lost the paperwork!!! And guess what? Nobody bothered to follow up until I contacted my state representative who magically got it fixed in 3 days after FOUR MONTHS of me calling and getting nowhere!!! The system is DESIGNED to be frustrating so people give up!!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!

That's a good idea about contacting our representative. I hadn't thought of that. How did you go about it? Did you just call their office?

Yep! Just called my state rep's office, explained the situation, and they have staff who deal with ESD issues. They asked me to fill out a form authorizing them to inquire about my case. After that they contacted ESD directly through some special government channel. Suddenly ESD found the missing employer response that had been "lost" for months! MAGIC!!!

um my claim went pending for a while too but i just waited and it eventually went through. think it was like 5 weeks. not saying you shouldn't call but sometimes the system just takes awhile to process everything especially if theres any kind of issue with your claim. just my 2 cents

A quick follow-up on the adjudication process - if you haven't already, your husband should check if he has a pending questionnaire in his eServices account. Sometimes ESD assigns these without sending a notification, and if they're not completed, it can silently stall the claim. Also, make sure your husband continues to meet the job search requirements (3 documented job search activities per week) while his claim is pending. Many people forget this and then face additional issues once their claim is approved.

Thank you! I just checked with him and he doesn't see any questionnaires, but we'll keep checking daily. And yes, he's been doing his 3 job search activities every week and keeping detailed records. We definitely don't want any more complications!

my brother just went through this! his claim was pending for 7 weeks because his employer said he quit but he was actually laid off. he finally got someone on the phone who escalated it to a supervisor and it was resolved within 48 hours after that. definitely keep calling until you get someone helpful!

Just a quick update on current timelines since I spoke with an ESD agent last week about my own issue. They told me that as of April 2025, the average adjudication time is 8 weeks, but can be longer if multiple issues need resolution. The agent mentioned they're still working through a backlog from the February manufacturing layoffs. One thing that might help - have your husband check if his previous employer has actually submitted the corrected dates. Sometimes employers say they'll fix something but don't follow through, and ESD won't tell you this proactively.

That's helpful context, thank you. Do you know if there's a way for him to verify whether the employer submitted the corrected dates? Or is that something only ESD can see?

Unfortunately, there's no way for claimants to see if employers have responded. Only ESD can see that information. Your best bet is to call ESD again and specifically ask: 1) Has the employer submitted the corrected information? 2) Is there anything else holding up the claim? 3) Can they provide an estimated timeline for resolution? Be sure to get the agent's name and ID number for your records. Sometimes making note of this information (and mentioning you're keeping detailed records of all communications) can motivate them to be more thorough.
