ESD claim stuck in adjudication with changing dates - any success with state senator help?

Really frustrated with my ESD unemployment claim timeline... Filed on March 12, 2025, and it initially showed 'pending' for about 3 weeks. Then on April 5th, it changed to 'adjudication in progress' without any explanation. Today I checked again and the adjudication date updated AGAIN but still says the same status! No movement at all despite the date change. I'm getting desperate since it's been over 6 weeks total now. I reached out to my state senator's office about 2 weeks ago to see if they could help expedite things. Their assistant said they'd send an inquiry, but I haven't heard anything back yet. My savings are getting dangerously low. Has anyone here been through something similar with dates changing during adjudication? How long did you end up waiting? Did contacting your state rep actually help speed things up? Any insight would be hugely appreciated!!

Yeah this happened to me back in January!!! My adjudication date kept updating every 2 weeks but nothing was actually happening. I called ESD like 50 times and could never get through. So frustrating when you need money for bills and they just leave you hanging with no info 😠

Ugh, it's the worst. Did your claim eventually get approved? How long did it take in total?

The changing dates usually indicate that your claim is still being reviewed but has been reassigned to a different adjudicator or moved in their queue. This is actually somewhat normal in the ESD system, though frustrating. The state senator route can help, but in my experience it typically takes 3-4 weeks to see results from that intervention. Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims during this time, even while in adjudication. If you miss weeks, you'll have to request backdating later which creates more delays.

Thank you - that's helpful to know about the reassignment. I've definitely been keeping up with my weekly claims. Do you think I should follow up with the senator's office or just keep waiting?

me and my husband both had to wait almost 9 weeks last year for adjudication to finish. the dates kept changing every few weeks but nothing was actually happening. ESD is just terrible with communication honestly

9 weeks?! That's insane. Did you have to do anything special to finally get it resolved?

I've seen this exact scenario many times. The changing adjudication dates typically mean your case is being reviewed but possibly reassigned or reprioritized in their system. Here's what you should do: 1. Continue filing weekly claims without fail 2. Check your ESD account messages daily (sometimes they request info but don't email you) 3. Follow up with the senator's office after 2 weeks - a gentle reminder can help 4. Make sure there are no fact-finding questionnaires waiting for you in your account In my experience working with dozens of claimants, adjudication takes 4-6 weeks on average currently, but can extend to 8-10 weeks during busy periods. The senator's office intervention typically shaves 1-2 weeks off that time, so it's worth pursuing.

This is super detailed and helpful, thank you! I'll definitely send a follow-up to the senator's office tomorrow. I've been checking my ESD messages daily and there's nothing new there - no questionnaires or requests for information. It's the silence that's driving me crazy!

I've tried calling at least 20 times over the past few weeks. Either get a busy signal or the automated message saying they're experiencing high call volume and to try again later. Then it hangs up on me. Super frustrating!

After dealing with the EXACT same situation (waiting 7+ weeks in adjudication with dates changing), I finally got through to ESD using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that basically waits on hold for you and calls when an agent is available. Totally worth it for me because I was going insane trying to get answers. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The ESD agent I finally spoke with was able to see notes on my claim that weren't visible in my online account. Turned out they were waiting for some verification from my former employer that never came through. Once I knew what the holdup was, I was able to push things forward.

Thank you! I hadn't heard of this service before. Did they actually help resolve your issue or just tell you what was happening? I'm desperate to actually get this fixed, not just get more information at this point.

They don't resolve it for you - they just get you connected to an actual ESD agent. But in my case, once I finally spoke to someone, they told me exactly what was holding up my claim (missing employer response) and the agent was able to push it through to the next step right then. My claim was approved about 4 days later. Without that call I would've just been waiting indefinitely.

I had my state rep help me and it took about 3 weeks after they got involved before something happened. But it DID work eventually. The squeaky wheel gets the grease with ESD I swear. Keep bugging your senator's office!

That's encouraging to hear it actually worked for you! I'll definitely reach out to my senator's office again tomorrow. Did they give you any updates during those 3 weeks or did things just suddenly resolve?

I'm back!!! Mine took exactly 8 weeks and 3 days from filing to payment. The adjudication date changed 3 times during that period. And yes my state rep did actually help!! One day I just got a bunch of payments all at once. Hang in there!!!

Thank you for coming back to update! That gives me some hope. Did you get any communication before the payments showed up, or did they just appear?

No communication at all!!! Just woke up one morning and there was an approval letter in my ESD account inbox and the payments pending in my bank account. ESD is weird like that - radio silence then suddenly everything happens at once!

my neighbors cousins was in adjudiction for 3 months!!! but that was back in 2023 so maybe its faster now. but yeah the systems still a mess from what i can tell

Quick update on timeframes based on recent cases I've seen: Current ESD adjudication is averaging 5-7 weeks for standard issues. Senator intervention is helping, but their offices are getting flooded with requests which is diluting the effectiveness somewhat. One thing to verify: check that your identification verification is complete and shows "verified" in your account. That's often an invisible blocker that keeps claims stuck.

Just checked and my ID verification does show as "verified" so at least that's not the issue. I'm about 6 weeks in now, so hopefully I'm nearing the end of this nightmare based on your timeframes. Thanks for the insight!
