ESD automated phone system - which options to press for a live agent?
I've been trying to reach someone at ESD for three days straight about my adjudication issue. Their automated phone system is driving me CRAZY! I keep getting stuck in loops or disconnected. Does anyone know exactly which numbers to press to reach an actual human being? I think I need to press 7 at some point and maybe 9 after that? But I can't remember the full sequence and keep getting it wrong. My claim has been pending for 5 weeks now and I'm about to miss another rent payment. Please help!

The sequence changed recently. You need to call the main number 800-318-6022, then press 1 for English (or 2 for Spanish), then 4 for questions about your claim, then 7 to speak with a claims agent, and finally 9 to be put in the queue. But be warned - even with the right sequence, you'll probably wait 2+ hours or get a message saying the queue is full. I had to try for over a week before getting through.

•Thank you! I've been pressing 3 instead of 4 after the language option. No wonder I kept getting redirected to the wrong department. Will try again tomorrow morning right when they open.

Ugh the ESD phone system is literally the WORST!!! I waited on hold for 3 hours last Thursday only to get disconnected right when someone picked up. Then Friday I couldn't even get into the queue at all! The system is designed to frustrate us into giving up. This is how they save money - make it impossible to actually get benefits!!

•It's not a conspiracy, it's just understaffing. They lost a lot of employees after the pandemic surge and haven't been able to rehire fast enough. But I agree the phone system is incredibly frustrating. Try calling exactly at 8:00am when they first open - that's when I finally got through.

Have you guys tried using Claimyr? It saved me so much time and frustration. The service basically calls ESD for you and then calls you back when they have an agent on the line. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked. Their video demo explains it better than I can: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Their website is claimyr.com - way better than spending days trying to get through on your own. My adjudication issue got resolved in one call after using their service.

•Does this actually work? Sounds too good to be true tbh

•It worked for me! After trying to get through on my own for almost two weeks, I finally got connected to an agent within a few hours of using their service. Just sharing what helped me with my adjudication issue.

i got thru yesterday by caling at 8:02am exactly and using the 1-4-7-9 sequence but had to try 3 days in a row. they open at 8am so dont call before that or youll get the closed message. also dont call monday its the busiest day

•Monday is definitely the worst day! Also don't call on the 1st-3rd of the month when everyone is panicking about their claims. Mid-week during the middle of the month seems to be the sweet spot from my experience with ESD.

Here's a pro tip that worked for me with my adjudication issue - instead of calling the main number, try the claims center directly at 800-318-6022. Yes, it's the same number, but using the claims center option after hours (after 4pm) to leave a message sometimes gets you a callback within 2-3 days. And yes, the sequence is 1 (language) → 4 (claim questions) → 7 (speak to agent) → 9 (queue). But be prepared to call repeatedly over several days. The system will tell you if the queue is full or if you can wait. If they say the wait is more than 2 hours, that usually means you'll actually get through eventually. Remember to have your claim ID ready and a clear explanation of your issue. Good luck!

•Thanks for the detailed explanation! I'll try the after-hours message option tonight. My claim has been stuck in adjudication because my former employer contested something, but I don't even know what they're contesting. So frustrating not knowing what's happening with my own claim.

I just went through this last month!!!! The key is you HAVE to call between 8:00am-8:15am. Any later and you'll never get through. And yes, it's 1 → 4 → 7 → 9. I got my adjudication cleared up after 7 weeks of waiting. Hang in there!

I've been dealing with ESD for months and want to add something important - if you're calling about adjudication specifically, there's actually a separate option that might help. After you press 1 for language and 4 for claim questions, try pressing 2 instead of 7 - this goes to the adjudication department directly. Sometimes this line has shorter wait times than the general claims agents. Also, keep detailed notes of every call - date, time, who you spoke with, and what they told you. ESD agents don't always have access to previous call notes, so you might have to explain your situation multiple times. Having your own record helps you stay consistent and shows you've been actively trying to resolve the issue if you need to escalate later. The 5-week wait you mentioned is unfortunately pretty normal for adjudication cases, but don't give up! The squeaky wheel gets the grease with ESD.
