ESD approval letter disappeared and replaced with monetary determination - stuck in adjudication limbo
I'm completely baffled by what's happening with my ESD account. Last week I received a letter stating my claim was APPROVED (finally!). I was so relieved! But then something weird happened - that letter completely vanished from my account and was replaced with just the monetary determination letter. The letter ID numbers don't even match up, so it's not like it was renamed. Under the decision status section, the approval letter was also replaced, but here's the crazy part - I can't file an appeal because the system says 'the decision was made in your favor.' Yet my claim STILL shows 'adjudication in progress'! I called ESD and spoke with someone who was incredibly rude and basically accused me of lying about ever receiving an approval letter. I'm not imagining things - I SAW that approval letter! Has anyone experienced this glitch before? What should I do now? I'm worried my benefits are stuck in some weird system limbo.

This is actually more common than you'd think. ESD's system sometimes posts tentative approval letters prematurely that get withdrawn if something still needs adjudication. The monetary determination letter is different - it just tells you what your weekly benefit amount would be IF you qualify. It doesn't mean your claim is approved. The 'decision made in your favor' message likely refers to the monetary determination (meaning you have enough qualifying wages), not the actual adjudication issue. You need to reach a claims agent to find out what's actually holding up your claim.

•Ohhh that makes more sense... but it's still so frustrating! So even though I saw an approval letter, it wasn't actually official? The agent made me feel like I was making it up. Do you know how long it typically takes to get through adjudication after this happens?

OMG the same EXACT thing happened to me in January!!! I thought I was going crazy! Called them like 50 times and nobody would believe me about the approval letter. My claim was stuck in adjudcation for another 3 weeks after that before I finally got paid. The ESD system is a complete mess tbh.

•That's both comforting and terrifying to hear! At least I'm not imagining things. Did you have to do anything special to get it moving again? Or just wait it out?

The ESD system has several issues with letter management that they haven't fixed in years. What's happening is that your claim has been approved for monetary eligibility (meaning you have enough work history/wages), but there's a separate adjudication issue that needs resolution. When your claim is fully approved, you'll receive a different letter. You need to specifically ask what the adjudication issue is about - it could be job separation reason, availability for work, or something else entirely. Keep filing your weekly claims while this is being resolved. And document everything - take screenshots of any letters you receive in the future.

•THIS!!! I work in HR and deal with ESD verification requests all the time. Their system shows different things to claimants vs what's actually happening behind the scenes. The adjudication can be about literally ANYTHING - from your identity verification to your job separation reason. The monetary determination is ONLY about your wages qualifying you for benefits, not your eligibility otherwise.

I had this happen last year - turned out I had two separate issues in adjudication. One got resolved (which triggered that approval letter) but the other was still pending. Check if you have multiple issues under the "Issues and Decisions" section of your account. They won't release any benefits until ALL issues are cleared. After weeks of trying to call with no luck, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to ESD. They have this system that calls for you and gets you in line with an agent. Worked way better than trying to call myself. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent I got was actually helpful and explained exactly what was happening with my claim and gave me a timeframe for resolution.

•I used that Claimyr thing too! It was literally the only way I could get through to an actual person after trying for days.

The ESD system is GARBAGE!!!! I had THREE different approval letters that all disappeared and then got a denial for no reason. Had to appeal and wait another 6 weeks!!! The whole system is designed to make you give up. KEEP FIGHTING THEM!!!!

•Yes but only after I contacted my state representative's office and they intervened. Try that if nothing else works!

Update us on what happens. There are a few things you can do while waiting: 1. Continue filing weekly claims without fail 2. Check your account daily for new letters or messages 3. Try calling at exactly 8:00 AM when they open (sometimes you can get through) 4. Make sure you're completing your job search activities (3 per week) and documenting them 5. If it's been more than 3 weeks in adjudication, consider contacting your state representative The system is frustrating but hang in there - once they resolve the adjudication, they'll pay all your back weeks at once if you've been filing consistently.

•Thanks for the detailed steps! It's been just over 2 weeks in adjudication so far. I'll try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow. I've definitely been doing my job searches and documenting everything carefully. I'll update here when something changes.

I'm going through something similar right now! My claim has been in adjudication for 5 weeks and I keep getting different stories from different agents when I call. One told me it was about my job separation, another said it was identity verification, and the third said they couldn't see any issues at all. It's like they're all looking at different systems or something. The worst part is not knowing what's actually holding things up or how much longer it might take. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously but it's scary not knowing if/when I'll actually see any money. At least your monetary determination went through - mine is still showing "pending" for everything. Has anyone here had success getting a supervisor on the phone? Regular agents seem to have no clue what's going on half the time.
