Claim stuck 'pending' for 4 weeks - should I contact current governor's office before transition?

I filed my unemployment claim on October 2nd and have been diligently submitting my 3 job search activities every Sunday as required. It's been 4 weeks now and my status is still showing as 'pending' with no movement whatsoever. I'm getting really anxious as bills are piling up. I've heard from several people that the current governor's office has been pretty responsive in helping push ESD claims through when they're stuck. But with the election coming up, we'll have a new governor soon. Should I try contacting the current governor's office this week? I'm worried that if I wait until the 6-week mark, we'll have the new administration in place, and they might not be as helpful with ESD issues as the current staff supposedly is. Has anyone had success getting the governor's office involved with a stalled claim? And is there a specific way to contact them that works better than others? Any advice would be really appreciated!

You're definitely in adjudication purgatory. Four weeks is actually pretty standard for ESD these days, which is ridiculous. Before contacting the governor's office, have you tried calling ESD directly? I know their phone system is a nightmare, but sometimes that's the fastest solution. Make sure you've also checked your ESD online account for any alerts or action items - sometimes they need additional information but don't clearly communicate it.

I've tried calling multiple times but can never get through - just endless holds and then disconnections. I've checked my account almost obsessively and there are no alerts or action items showing up. It's just sitting there in 'pending' status with no explanation.

OMG SAME BOAT!! Filed sept 28 and still pending!!! I've called like 50+ times and either get hung up on or wait for 2+ hours just to be told they "can't tell me anything specific" about why its pending. so frustrating!!!!!

I feel your pain! Had the same issue last month. The system is totally broken. What worked for me was emailing my state representative - not the governor. They have dedicated staff who deal with ESD issues and can often get things moving faster than going through the governor's office.

I had success contacting the governor's office last year when my claim was stuck for 7 weeks. They have a dedicated constituent services team that can escalate issues with ESD. But honestly, I'd recommend trying to get through to ESD directly first using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps you skip the phone queue and get connected to an actual ESD agent. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 If that doesn't work, then yes, I'd contact the current governor's office ASAP rather than waiting. The transition period can be chaotic, and things might fall through the cracks. New administrations also take time to get their constituent services fully operational.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't heard of Claimyr before. I'll check it out today. You're right about not waiting - I think I'll try this first and then reach out to the governor's office next week if there's still no movement.

I have to respectfully disagree based on my experience as someone who's helped several people with ESD issues. Both the governor's office AND state representatives can be helpful, but they work differently. The governor's office often has direct liaisons with the ESD executive team, while state reps typically work through legislative coordinators at ESD. In your specific situation, since you're worried about the transition, I'd actually suggest trying both simultaneously - contact the governor's office and your state representative. Make sure to include your full name, claim ID number, and the last four digits of your SSN in any communication.

Something to check - does your ESD account say anything about identity verification? Sometimes claims get stuck in pending because they need additional verification but the notification gets lost in the system. Also, check your spam folder for emails from ESD. My claim was stuck for 5 weeks because I missed an identity verification request that went to spam!

Just double-checked and there's nothing about identity verification that I can see. And I've been checking my spam folder regularly too. It literally just says 'pending' with no other information.

When this happened to me last year, I contacted my state representative and the governor's office the same day. State rep responded first but the governor's office actually got it fixed faster. Maybe I just got lucky tho. The new administration thing is a good point I hadn't thought about - probably good to do it sooner rather than later.

Actually, to clarify on the timeline - the new governor won't take office until January. The election is in November, but the inauguration isn't until January. So you have more time than you might think, but I still wouldn't wait unnecessarily.

Oh! That's really good to know, thanks for that clarification. I thought the transition happened much faster after the election.

Just wanted to chime in again - I've helped my brother and sister both navigate ESD issues in the last year. The most effective approach seems to be a combination of: 1. Persistent calling to ESD (yes, it's awful) 2. Writing to your state representative 3. Contacting the governor's office Do all three at once. Whichever one responds first, great! Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease. But be prepared with all your info - claim ID, last 4 of SSN, exact filing date, and a clear timeline of what you've done so far. Also, make sure you keep filing your weekly claims and doing your job search activities even while it's pending. If you miss any weeks, it creates a whole new problem.

Thank you for this comprehensive advice! I'll definitely keep up with my weekly claims and job search activities. I think I'll try the multi-pronged approach you suggested starting tomorrow.

Any updates? Were you able to get through to anyone? Curious if Claimyr worked for you.

Yes! Claimyr actually worked really well. Got connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes yesterday. They told me my claim was flagged for an employer verification issue (my previous employer hadn't responded to their inquiry). The agent escalated it and said I should see movement within 72 hours. I'm still going to contact my state rep as backup though, just to cover all bases. Thanks everyone for the helpful advice!

That's awesome news about Claimyr working for you! Really glad to hear you got some answers about the employer verification issue. It's so frustrating that ESD doesn't proactively communicate these kinds of roadblocks - you shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to find out what's actually holding up your claim. Definitely smart to still contact your state rep as backup. Hope you see that movement in the next couple days and can finally get your benefits flowing. Thanks for updating us - this info will definitely help other folks in similar situations!

This is such a relief to hear! I've been following your situation closely since I'm dealing with something similar. The fact that Claimyr actually worked gives me hope - I was skeptical about paying for a service to help with something that should be free, but 20 minutes vs. endless failed attempts seems totally worth it. The employer verification issue makes so much sense too - it's ridiculous that they don't just tell you upfront what's causing the delay. Really appreciate you taking the time to update everyone here. Wishing you the best with getting everything resolved!
