Can I resume my ESD unemployment benefits after medical leave ends?

I've been on unemployment for about 2 months now after my position was eliminated during company restructuring. I just found out I need to have surgery that will put me out of commission for approximately 6-8 weeks (doctor's orders - no work allowed). My question is: once I'm medically cleared to work again, can I just pick up where I left off with my unemployment claim? Or will I need to file a brand new claim? I'm really concerned about losing those remaining benefits since I'll still be unemployed when I recover. Has anyone dealt with this situation before? The ESD website isn't clear about what happens when you temporarily can't work due to medical reasons.

you cant get unemployment when ur not able to work bc one of the main requirements is being able and available to work. u should look into paid family and medical leave instead for ur surgery recovery period

Thanks, but my question is about AFTER I recover. I know I can't claim while I'm recovering, but once I'm cleared to work again, can I resume my old claim or do I have to start over?

ESD is such a broken system!! I had a similar situation last year and they completely messed up my claim. I provided ALL the documentation they asked for showing when I couldn't work and when I could return and they STILL disqualified me saying I wasn't looking for work during my recovery!! OF COURSE I WASN'T LOOKING FOR WORK - MY DOCTOR SAID I COULDN'T WORK!!! I had to file an appeal and wait ANOTHER 6 weeks to get it sorted out. Make sure you document EVERYTHING and get the name of every person you talk to at ESD. Their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing!!!!
