Can I claim ESD unemployment during 30-day inpatient rehab with no job search ability?

I'm in a tough situation and need advice about maintaining my unemployment benefits. I recently qualified for ESD unemployment after my company downsized. I've been receiving benefits for about 3 weeks, but I'm scheduled to enter a 30-day inpatient rehab program starting next week. During this time, I won't have access to my phone or computer to complete my weekly claims or perform the required 3 job search activities.\n\nDoes anyone know if there's a way to maintain my claim during this treatment period? Can I get some kind of temporary medical exemption from the job search requirements? Will I lose my entire claim if I miss filing for several weeks? I'm working on my recovery but really need the financial support to continue when I get out.\n\nAny advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you! Do you know if I can apply for this exemption before I actually enter treatment? I'm worried about getting everything set up properly.

Good point. OP will need to arrange for someone else to file the weekly claims on their behalf. ESD allows an authorized representative to file for you if you're medically unable.

This is incredibly helpful! I didn't know about the authorized representative option. I'll call ESD tomorrow and get the process started. My sister can probably help with filing the claims while I'm away.

I've been trying to reach ESD for days about something similar but can never get through. Their phone system is completely overwhelmed and I just get disconnected after waiting for hours. Does anyone know how to actually speak to a real person there?

I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) last month when I was desperate to talk to someone at ESD about my adjudication. They got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of the usual hours of trying and getting disconnected. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nIt saved me so much frustration, especially for something urgent like what the OP is dealing with where you really need to talk to someone before entering treatment.

good luck man. addcition is hard. i been there. but fyi if u miss filin for 4 weeks straight they will shut down ur claim completely. happened to me. u gotta find SOMEONE u trust to file those weekly claims no matter what!!

This is correct - missing 4 consecutive weekly claims will close the claim. That's why setting up an authorized representative is so important in this case.
