If you end up having issues with your benefit calculation or need to speak with Washington ESD about your claim, I highly recommend trying Claimyr. I wasted so much time calling the regular number before someone told me about it. The service actually works and you can see exactly how it works in their demo video.
Bottom line - your weekly benefit amount will be somewhere between $295 (minimum) and $999 (maximum) depending on your wage history. Most people fall somewhere in the $350-600 range. You'll know your exact amount once Washington ESD processes your claim and sends you the determination letter.
One more thing - if your claim gets flagged for any reason it can delay payment even if you filed on time. Usually you'd get a notice in your account about issues that need to be resolved.
If anything does come up with your claim, that's when services like Claimyr really come in handy for getting through to someone who can help resolve it quickly.
The system is pretty reliable once you're in the regular rhythm. I've been claiming for 8 months and can count on one hand the times payments were delayed unexpectedly.
One last thing - if you're really worried about the tax bill, you could always make estimated quarterly payments now even if you're not required to. Better safe than sorry!
The Washington ESD phone system is absolutely horrible. I spent weeks trying to get through before someone told me about Claimyr. Best money I ever spent - they got me connected to an agent in like 20 minutes and I was able to get my claim issue resolved that same day. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get things straightened out.
Don't let a denial discourage you from appealing! The initial determination process is pretty automated and doesn't always catch all the details of your situation. The appeals process involves actual humans who can look at your case more carefully. I've seen plenty of people win appeals even when their initial denial seemed justified.
Thanks for the encouragement. I was feeling pretty defeated but these responses are giving me hope that I can get this sorted out.

Honestly the whole system is confusing and they don't explain things clearly. No wonder people get stressed about stuff like this. At least forums like this help clarify the rules.

•Seriously, this thread has been way more helpful than anything on the official Washington ESD website.

•The official info is so vague and technical. Real people's experiences are much more useful.

Bottom line - you're overthinking this. Selling your old stuff while on unemployment is totally normal and not something Washington ESD cares about. Focus on finding your next job instead of worrying about this non-issue.

•Glad this thread helped! These kinds of questions come up all the time and the answer is usually that it's not as big a deal as we think it is.
