Remember that unemployment benefits are taxable income! You can choose to have taxes withheld from your payments or pay them later when you file your tax return. Just don't forget about this come tax time.
Good luck with your application! It seems overwhelming at first but once you get into the routine of filing weekly claims and doing job searches, it becomes pretty automatic. The hardest part is just getting started.
I wish they would just send you a letter telling you exactly how much you earned in each quarter instead of making you guess
Thanks everyone for the helpful info. I think I understand the requirements better now. Going to gather all my wage info and file my claim this weekend.
For anyone else reading this who's in a similar situation - definitely try that Claimyr service if you need to talk to Washington ESD about eligibility questions. I used it last month when I was confused about my base period and the agent was able to look up my exact wage history and tell me if I qualified. Way better than trying to guess.
This whole thread has been super informative. I'm in a similar boat where I'm worried about potential layoffs and wasn't sure if I'd qualify. Sounds like most people who've worked steadily for 6+ months should be okay as long as they meet the wage requirements.
One last thing - keep all your documentation! Pay stubs, termination notice, any correspondence from Washington ESD. You might need it later if there are any questions about your claim or if you need to appeal anything.
Hope everything works out for you! The unemployment system can be stressful but once you get into the routine of filing weekly claims and doing job searches it becomes pretty manageable. Just stay on top of the requirements and you should be fine.

One more tip - if your employer went out of business, you can sometimes find the EAN on old business correspondence or even on their old website if it's still cached. Had to do this when my company folded last year.

•That's creative problem-solving! Fortunately my old employer is still around so I can contact them directly.

honestly washington esd should just auto-populate this stuff from their own records instead of making us hunt for random numbers

•I agree it would be more user-friendly, but the verification process helps prevent fraud and ensures accurate benefit calculations.
