Just want to echo what others said about filing sooner rather than later. I waited 3 weeks after I lost my job thinking I'd find something quickly, and I basically lost 3 weeks of benefits. The waiting week was eliminated in Washington so you get paid starting with your first week of filing.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful information! I'm going to gather my documents this weekend and file my claim on Monday. It sounds like with my income level I should qualify for a decent weekly amount that will help while I'm job searching. I'll definitely keep the Claimyr service in mind if I run into any issues getting through to Washington ESD.
You're making the right choice. Having that weekly benefit takes a lot of pressure off the job search.
Hope everything goes smoothly for you. Remember that Claimyr option if you need to talk to an agent quickly about anything.
For anyone wondering about extensions - I went through this last year and there are NO extensions available right now beyond the standard 26 weeks. Don't count on anything beyond that timeframe. Plan accordingly and use every week wisely.
One more thing to consider - if you're getting close to exhausting your 26 weeks, make sure you understand what happens to your health insurance. COBRA can be expensive but there might be other options to explore before your benefits end.
The unpredictability is the worst part. I wish Washington ESD would just give us a definitive answer on timing instead of making us guess.
Tuesday morning deposits are standard but I've had mine come as late as Thursday when there were technical issues on Washington ESD's end. Always have a backup plan!
I had to use Claimyr twice during my unemployment claim - once to check my benefit calculation and once when I had issues with my job search log. Both times they got me connected to helpful Washington ESD agents who actually knew what they were talking about. Way better than the runaround you usually get.
Yeah, their regular phone system is terrible. The Claimyr service makes it actually manageable to get help when you need it.
Bottom line for OP: at your income level, expect around $950-1000 per week if you qualify for benefits. File your claim ASAP since there's no retroactive payments for delays in filing. The sooner you start the process, the sooner you'll know your exact amount.

Thanks everyone for all this advice. I think I need to start documenting everything more carefully and maybe talk to HR first before making any decisions. This has given me a lot to think about.

•That sounds like a smart approach. Take your time and build your case properly if you decide to move forward.

•Good luck! Remember that even if you don't qualify for unemployment, there might be other assistance programs available while you job search.

Also want to add - if you do quit and get denied initially, don't give up. The appeals process exists for a reason and lots of people win on appeal who were denied initially. Just make sure you appeal within the deadline.

•What's the deadline for appeals?

•You have 30 days from the date of the determination letter to file your appeal. Don't miss that deadline!
