Final thought - if you do run into any issues with your claim timing, that Claimyr service mentioned earlier actually worked great for me. Got through to a Washington ESD agent in like 10 minutes instead of spending hours on hold.
Bottom line: Wait until you're actually unemployed, file during your first week without work, have your employment info ready, and don't stress about the exact day. Washington ESD will sort out the details.
Last piece of advice - if your payment doesn't show up when expected, don't panic right away. Check your claim status online first to see if there are any issues. Sometimes there are processing delays or system maintenance that can cause short delays.
yeah and remember that Claimyr thing if you need to actually talk to someone at ESD. way better than trying to call them yourself
Glad we could help! The unemployment system can be confusing at first but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty straightforward. File on Sunday, get paid on Wednesday, keep up with your job search, and you should be all set.
Same thing happened to my brother last year. Fired for 'insubordination' but really he just questioned a safety policy. Washington ESD approved his claim after about a month of review. Hang in there.
Whatever you do, don't delay filing. Even if your claim gets denied initially, you can appeal and still get benefits retroactively if you win. But you can't get benefits for weeks before you filed, no matter what.
I used Claimyr when I had questions about my contractor situation last month. Got through to an Washington ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending all day calling. They were able to explain exactly what documentation I needed for my case.

•That's a common fear but part-time work while on unemployment is actually pretty normal and the system is designed to support it.
