One last thing - keep copies of everything you submit to Washington ESD regarding your work. I save screenshots of my weekly claim submissions just in case there are ever any questions later.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice! I feel much more confident about handling this correctly now. I'll make sure to report everything honestly and keep good records. Really appreciate all the responses!
And remember, if you ever need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD, Claimyr is there as an option. Much easier than the regular phone system.
Filed my claim 3 days ago after getting terminated for performance and already see it's in adjudication status. The waiting is killing me but at least I know it's moving forward. Your situation sounds similar to mine - hang in there!
One final piece of advice - if Washington ESD does contact you for a phone interview during adjudication, answer honestly but stick to the facts. Don't bad-mouth your former employer, just explain your side of what happened with the performance issues. They're looking for whether it constitutes misconduct, and poor performance typically doesn't meet that bar.
Whatever you decide to do, document everything! Keep copies of all medical records, doctor's notes, and any communication with Washington ESD. If you end up needing to appeal or apply for other benefits later, having good documentation will help your case.
Update us on what happens! I'm in a similar boat with a potential medical leave coming up and this info is really helpful.
For anyone still reading this thread: don't wait until tax season to figure this out. Set up withholding or start saving now!
Final reminder that even though Washington ESD gives you the option to have taxes withheld, it's still your responsibility to make sure you're paying enough. Keep good records!

One more thing - make sure you understand the difference between your benefit year ending and exhausting your weeks. Those are two different scenarios with different rules for reapplying.

•Can you explain the difference? I thought they were the same thing.

•Benefit year ending means 52 weeks have passed since you filed. Exhausting weeks means you used up all 26 payments. Different rules apply for each situation when filing a new claim.

Bottom line - start planning now for what happens after your benefits end. Don't wait until week 25 to figure out your next move. The job market moves slow and Washington ESD doesn't give extensions unless there's a major crisis.
