One more thing to remember - if you turn down suitable work offers, Washington ESD can disqualify you and cut off your benefits even before the 26 weeks are up.
No, it doesn't have to be identical, but it should generally match your skills and pay reasonably close to your previous wage, especially early in your claim.
Thanks everyone for all this info! This thread has been way more helpful than the Washington ESD website. At least now I know I have up to 26 weeks and what I need to do to keep getting benefits.
UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know I finally got through to Washington ESD using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Turns out my claim was randomly selected for income verification and they needed me to submit pay stubs from my last job. The agent said this happens to about 10% of claims and there's no way to know unless you call. My payment should process within 48 hours now that I've submitted the documents.
Glad you got it sorted out! This thread has been really helpful. I'm bookmarking it in case I run into payment delays in the future. It's crazy how many different things can cause problems with unemployment payments.
The whole system would be so much easier if Washington ESD just had better customer service. It's 2025 and we're still dealing with phone systems from the 1990s. At least services like Claimyr exist to help bridge that gap, but it shouldn't be necessary.
Final reminder for OP - don't procrastinate on filing! You can backdate your claim but only for a limited time, and you want to get in the queue as soon as possible since processing times are unpredictable right now.
Washington ESD's website has a tax information page that explains all this, but like everything else on their site, it's buried and hard to find. Wish they made important info like this more accessible.
Final thought: Keep good records of all your unemployment payments and any taxes withheld. Don't rely solely on the 1099-G in case there are discrepancies. Screenshot your payment history or print it out regularly.

Long story involving identity verification and wage disputes. But at least the clock started ticking when I first filed.
