One more thing - if you worked in multiple states, you might need to file in the state where you earned the most wages, not necessarily where you live now. Washington ESD can help figure that out if you're not sure.
The whole process seems overwhelming at first but it's really not that bad once you get started. Washington's system is actually pretty user-friendly compared to some other states I've heard about.
Don't overthink it too much. The initial filing is pretty straightforward and you can always call or use services like Claimyr if you need help later. The important thing is to file quickly so you don't lose any potential benefits.
Same thing happened to me last year. The determination letter came like 2 weeks after I could already see my benefit amount and start filing weekly claims. Washington ESD's timing on notifications is all over the place.
If you're still unsure, look at your payment history section too. Even if you haven't been paid yet, approved claims will show pending payments or at least show the weeks you're eligible for benefits.
One thing nobody mentioned - if you have any questions after filing your initial claim, definitely try calling Washington ESD. But like others said, it's almost impossible to get through. I spent literally days trying to reach someone before I discovered that Claimyr service. Game changer for actually talking to a real person at Washington ESD.
I tried calling for two weeks straight and never got through. Wish I'd known about Claimyr earlier.
Good luck with everything! The first time is always scary but once you get your first payment and get into the routine of weekly claims, it becomes pretty automatic. Just stay on top of your job search requirements and you'll be fine.

Just want to add - if your claim gets stuck in adjudication (which happens a lot), don't panic but also don't just wait around. Keep filing your weekly claims and try to reach Washington ESD to check on the status. Sometimes there are simple issues that can be resolved quickly if you can talk to someone.

•Lots of things - if you quit vs were laid off, if there's a question about your availability to work, wage discrepancies, stuff like that. Usually they just need more information but it can take weeks to resolve.

•This is exactly when something like Claimyr becomes really valuable. When you're stuck in adjudication and need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD, having a way to get through their phone system without spending hours trying is huge.

•It really is ridiculous how hard it is to reach them! But there are ways around it if you know what to look for.
