One more tip - make sure your direct deposit information is correct in your Washington ESD account. I had the wrong routing number for the first month and my payments kept getting rejected. Had to wait for paper checks which took forever to arrive.
For anyone still struggling to get through to Washington ESD about benefit amounts or any other questions, I had good luck with that claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Got connected to an actual person who could look at my account and explain exactly how my weekly amount was calculated. Way better than trying to figure it out from the confusing letters they send.
For what it's worth, I've seen way more performance-based claims get approved than denied. Washington state seems to err on the side of supporting workers who genuinely tried to do their job but it just wasn't a good fit.
One last tip: if you do end up needing to talk to Washington ESD during the process and can't get through on the phone, that Claimyr service people mentioned earlier actually works. I was skeptical at first but it saved me so much time and stress when I needed to clarify something about my adjudication.
Just want to follow up on my earlier comment about Claimyr - I ended up using their service again this week to get clarification on some other tax questions with Washington ESD. Still works great for getting through to an actual person when you need to talk to someone.
This whole discussion has been eye-opening. I'm starting unemployment benefits next week and I definitely would not have known about the tax withholding option. Thanks everyone!
The Claimyr service mentioned earlier really does work well. I was skeptical at first but it saved me so much time trying to reach Washington ESD. Worth checking out if you need to follow up on your adjudication status.
Last thought - even if this drags out for a while, don't give up. The system can be slow but it does work when you have legitimate reasons like safety concerns. Your case sounds much stronger than typical 'insubordination' situations.

Just want to add that if you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD to ask questions about this stuff, I had success with that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Really helped me get through to an actual person.

•How much does that cost though?

•I'd rather pay a little to actually talk to someone than waste weeks trying to get through on my own. The peace of mind was worth it.

Bottom line: file if you think you qualify. Don't let employers scare you with talk about costs - they already paid their taxes.
