One last tip - if you have questions about your partial claim that you can't get answered online, try the live chat feature on the Washington ESD website. It's not always available but sometimes easier than calling.
The whole process seems overwhelming but it's really not that bad once you get into the routine. File your weekly claim, report your wages accurately, keep looking for full-time work. That's basically it.
If you end up needing to call Washington ESD for any reason and can't get through the normal way, I had success with Claimyr too. It's worth checking out their site at claimyr.com if you run into phone issues. Sometimes you really need to talk to an actual person and their regular phone system is just impossible.
Multiple people have mentioned Claimyr now so it must work pretty well. I'll keep that in mind if I need to call them. Thanks everyone for all the helpful info!
Good luck with your claim! The 26 weeks should give you enough time to find something decent if you stay active in your job search. Don't get discouraged if the first few weeks are slow - sometimes it takes time for the right opportunity to come up.
Just make sure you have all your documentation ready when you apply - Social Security number, driver's license, employment history for the past 18 months, and bank account info for direct deposit. It makes the process much smoother.
The whole system seems overwhelming at first but once you get into the routine it's not too bad. The hardest part is usually just getting started and dealing with any initial issues that come up.
For what it's worth, when I had this situation I found the Washington ESD website pretty helpful. They have a section about how different types of payments affect benefits. Might be worth checking out before you file.
Bottom line - yes you can collect unemployment with severance in most cases. Report it accurately, file right away, and don't stress too much about it. The system is designed to handle these common situations.

I know it seems overwhelming but you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. The first few weeks are the hardest while you're learning all the terminology and procedures.

Last piece of advice - if your claim gets denied for any reason, don't panic. You can appeal the decision and often win if you have good documentation. Just make sure to file the appeal within the deadline they give you.

•Hopefully I won't need to worry about appeals, but good to know!

•Most claims are approved without issues, especially for layoffs. You should be fine.
