Just remember if you do run into any issues that require talking to ESD directly, don't waste weeks trying to call them. Services like claimyr exist for a reason - the phone system is overwhelmed and you can save yourself a lot of stress.
If you run into any issues getting through to Washington ESD during the process, don't hesitate to use services like Claimyr to help you connect with agents. Sometimes these complex cases need direct communication to get resolved quickly.
One last thing - make sure you file your claim for the correct week. Don't backdate it to when your disability ended if you weren't actually available for work until after your doctor's clearance.
Just want to add that if you're collecting standby benefits (like if you have a specific return date), the rules might be different. Make sure you understand which type of benefits you're on.
Remember that even after your 26 weeks are up, your benefit year continues for the full 52 weeks. So if you find work and then lose it again within that year, you might be able to collect remaining benefits.
The whole reason they call it involuntary unemployment insurance is because there used to be voluntary unemployment insurance programs in some states decades ago. Now it's mostly just the involuntary type, but the name stuck for legal and administrative reasons.
Just to close the loop on this - if you filed an unemployment claim through Washington ESD after being laid off, you've already applied for involuntary unemployment insurance. No need to file anything else or worry about different programs unless you have other specific circumstances.

I'll be honest with you - the whole process is pretty intimidating when you've never done it before. But thousands of people file every week so it can't be that impossible. Just take it one step at a time and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Last tip - keep track of all your passwords and login info for SecureAccess Washington. If you get locked out of your account it's a huge pain to get back in, and you need to file those weekly claims every week without fail.

•Smart! And maybe set a calendar reminder for Sunday evenings to file your weekly claim so you don't forget.
