Good luck with your application! The Washington ESD system has improved a lot over the years. Most people get through the process without major issues as long as they follow the instructions and stay on top of their weekly claims.
One last tip - if you do need to call Washington ESD and are having trouble getting through, try calling right when they open or during lunch hours. Those tend to be less busy times. But honestly, that Claimyr service others mentioned sounds like a much better option than trying to get through yourself.
Thanks for the timing tip! I'll keep that in mind if I need to call. And yes, several people have mentioned Claimyr - definitely seems like a useful resource to know about.
For what it's worth, I think Washington's unemployment benefits are pretty decent compared to other states. The maximum is almost $1000 a week which is way higher than a lot of places.
Just wanted to add that if you do manage to get through to Washington ESD to ask about your specific situation, make sure to get any information in writing or at least document who you spoke with and when.
Great point. I'll definitely do that if I can ever reach someone. Still haven't had luck getting through on the phone.
That's exactly why Claimyr was so helpful for me. Took the frustration out of trying to reach them repeatedly.
One more thing - make sure you file your weekly claims on time every week, even if your initial claim is still being processed. Missing those deadlines can cause delays in getting paid.
honestly the whole system is confusing as hell. i've been trying to figure out my benefit amount for weeks and keep getting different answers. might just file and see what happens
That's probably the best approach. The online calculator isn't always accurate anyway because it doesn't account for all the nuances.
If you get confused during the process, definitely try that claimyr.com thing. Much easier than trying to figure it out on your own or waiting forever on hold.

For what it's worth, I've been tracking my benefit payments and the $638 weekly amount has been consistent since I started my claim in June. No automatic increases or adjustments. The only way to get more is to qualify for and file a completely new claim after the rates increase.

•That matches what I've been seeing too. Same amount every week since I started.

•Yep, it's definitely not like a cost of living adjustment or anything. Your rate is locked in for the entire benefit year.

Bottom line: unemployment benefit rates go up every January 1st, but only for new claims filed after that date. If you're on an existing claim, your weekly amount stays the same until you file a new claim. Whether you qualify for a new claim depends on your recent work history and wages. Hope that helps clear things up!

•No problem! The unemployment system is confusing enough without having to guess about the basics.

•Agreed, and if you need specific information about your claim, don't hesitate to contact Washington ESD directly or use services like Claimyr to get through to an agent.
