Quick question - if my claim gets denied initially, do I still have to serve a waiting week when I appeal and eventually get approved?
The waiting week is frustrating but honestly it's better than some states that have longer waiting periods. Just wish Washington ESD was more transparent about timeline expectations.
Even if you get initially denied, you can appeal within 30 days. I've seen lots of people win on appeal even after being denied initially. Don't give up if the first decision doesn't go your way.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice! I feel much more confident about filing now. Going to start the application tonight and document everything I can remember about the termination. Really appreciate this community.
You'll do fine. Just be patient with the process and don't hesitate to reach out if you have more questions.
Hope it works out! I used Claimyr when I needed to check on my adjudication status and it was super helpful for getting through to someone at Washington ESD when I had questions.
If anyone's desperate to reach Washington ESD and can't wait until Tuesday, you could try reaching out through their social media or email, though response times are usually pretty slow for those channels.
I tried using Claimyr that people keep mentioning and it actually worked great. Got through to Washington ESD in under 30 minutes when I normally would have been on hold for hours. Definitely recommend it if you need to talk to someone urgently.
It's worth checking their website at claimyr.com for details. For me the time savings made it worthwhile.
Washington ESD is definitely who you want. They handle initial claims, weekly certifications, appeals, overpayment issues - basically everything unemployment related in this state.
Comprehensive answer right there. Washington ESD is your one-stop shop for unemployment in Washington state.
And if you need to reach them by phone, definitely consider using Claimyr since their regular phone lines are always swamped.
Just want to confirm what others have said - Washington Employment Security Department (ESD) is 100% the entity that provides unemployment insurance benefits in Washington state. No other agency or entity handles this.

The bottom line is that getting fired doesn't automatically disqualify you from unemployment. File your claim, be honest about what happened, and don't let them scare you out of benefits you've earned. The system is there to help people who lose their jobs through no fault of their own, which sounds like your situation.

If you need help navigating the phone system to check on your claim status, that Claimyr service mentioned earlier really does work. I was skeptical at first but it saved me so much frustration trying to get through to Washington ESD during my adjudication period.
