For anyone wondering, you can find more info about REA on the WorkSourceWA website. They have a whole section explaining the program and what to expect.
Final piece of advice - file your return even if you can't pay what you owe right away. The penalty for not filing is much higher than the penalty for not paying on time. You can always work out a payment arrangement after you file.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice. I feel much better about tackling this tax situation now. Going to gather all my documents this weekend and either do it myself or find a tax preparer to help me out.
This happened to my neighbor and it turned out Washington ESD had flagged her account for some kind of review. The payments were being held until they finished investigating something about her job separation. She had no idea until she finally got through to someone.
Check if you have any outstanding issues on your Washington ESD account that might be holding up payments. Sometimes there are requests for additional information that aren't obvious when you log in.
Just wanted to add that you should keep filing your weekly claims even while your initial claim is under review. If you get approved, you'll get paid for all those weeks retroactively. If you don't file the weekly claims, you won't get paid for those weeks even if approved.
The bottom line is that performance-related terminations are usually eligible for benefits. Washington ESD distinguishes between being fired for misconduct (which disqualifies you) and being fired for other reasons like performance or not being a good fit (which usually doesn't disqualify you). File your claim and let them make the determination.

Just want to echo what others said about keeping good records. Washington ESD can ask for documentation of your job search activities so save everything - applications, email confirmations, notes from interviews, etc.

•Should I be documenting this stuff starting now even before my claim is approved?

•Absolutely! Better to have too much documentation than not enough if they ever audit your claim.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! This thread has been way more useful than the Washington ESD website for understanding how the benefit amounts work.
