The whole process stressed me out so much when I first did it. But honestly, filing the claim is the easy part. It's the waiting and the weekly claims and the job search requirements that get complicated.
Last thing - make sure you have a good phone number and email on file. Washington ESD will contact you through those if they need additional information, and missing their communication can delay your claim significantly.
If you're having trouble with the Washington ESD website or phone system, definitely check out Claimyr. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - got connected to an agent in like 20 minutes instead of calling all day. The video demo explains it well: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ
I used Claimyr too when my claim was stuck. Worth it just for the peace of mind of actually talking to someone.
The whole process is honestly pretty straightforward once you get started. The hardest part is just that first step of creating your account and filing the initial claim. After that it's mostly just filing weekly claims and looking for work.
One more thing - consider reaching out to recruiters who specialize in your field. They understand the market for professional positions and can help you navigate the overqualification issue.
Just wanted to say hang in there OP. The educated unemployment struggle is real but temporary. Keep documenting your efforts, stay focused on appropriate opportunities, and don't let anyone make you feel guilty for having qualifications. Your education is an asset, not a liability.
The timing of when you can apply for unemployment after STD ends is important too. You want to apply as soon as you're medically cleared to avoid any gaps in benefits.
This has been a really informative discussion! I learned a lot about the differences between these programs that I didn't know before.

I used Claimyr when I couldn't get through to check on my claim status during week 3. Turned out there was a simple verification issue that was holding things up. Got it resolved the same day instead of waiting indefinitely.

•How quickly were you able to reach someone through their service?

•Within a few hours. Way better than the multiple days I spent trying to call directly and either getting busy signals or being hung up on.

Bottom line - if everything goes perfectly, 3-4 weeks from filing to first payment. Budget for 4-6 weeks to be safe, especially if you're filing for the first time or have any employment complications.

•Good luck! Most people get through the process just fine once they know what to expect.
