The key thing is keeping your job search active and reporting accurately. Having a car will probably help you expand your search area and get to more interviews.
Summary for OP: File immediately online, keep filing weekly claims, start job search right away, expect 2-3 weeks for approval if no complications, and don't be afraid to call for help if you get stuck. You've got this!
yeah this thread covers pretty much everything. wish i had found info like this when i first filed. would have saved me a lot of stress and confusion
This thread has been super helpful! I'm bookmarking it in case I need to refer back to the advice about timing and dates.
For anyone else who finds this thread later - the bottom line is file your Washington ESD claim as soon as you know you're unemployed. Don't wait for paperwork, final paychecks, or anything else. You can always provide additional info later but you can't get back the time lost by waiting to file.
And if you need help reaching ESD agents with questions about your application, don't forget about services like Claimyr that can help you get through their phone system faster.
Been through this process twice now and the key thing is just to file even if you're not 100% sure you qualify. Let Washington ESD make the determination rather than talking yourself out of it.
Also worth noting that if you're still working part-time you might qualify for partial unemployment benefits. You don't have to be completely unemployed to get some help.

I think people worry too much about not qualifying. The eligibility requirements aren't that strict if you've been working regularly. With 10 months of work history you should be fine.

•Yeah you're probably right. I think I was just overthinking it.

•Exactly. The worst thing that happens is they say no and then you know for sure.

Good luck with your application! Based on everything discussed here, you should definitely qualify. Just be patient with the process - sometimes it takes a few weeks to get everything sorted out, especially if your claim goes into adjudication for any reason.

•And remember, if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD about your claim, Claimyr is there if the regular phone lines aren't working out for you.
