One more tip - set up direct deposit if you haven't already. It's faster than waiting for a debit card or check to arrive, and you don't have to worry about mail delays.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! This thread has been way more useful than the Washington ESD website. I feel much better about the whole process now.
One more tip - if you do get denied initially, don't give up. You can appeal the decision and sometimes they overturn it, especially if there was missing information or a misunderstanding about your work history. The appeal process gives you a chance to provide additional documentation.
Thanks everyone for all this info! Really helpful to understand that it's about total earnings over the base period rather than just how long you've been at one job. Feeling much more confident about my situation now.
The important thing is being honest about your situation. Don't try to collect both benefits at the same time - that's fraud. Wait until you're legitimately able and available for work.
Good luck with everything! The transition from disability to unemployment can be tricky but sounds like you're asking the right questions.
Bottom line for the original poster - based on what you described (8 months full-time plus 6 months part-time), you should easily meet the earnings requirement. Being laid off rather than fired or quitting means you should qualify. Just file your claim online and let the system determine your eligibility officially.

One more thing - if you do qualify and get approved, make sure you understand the job search requirements. With your contractor background, you'll need to show you're genuinely seeking regular employment, not just more freelance work.

•That makes sense. I'm actually open to regular employment at this point anyway - the uncertainty of contractor work is getting old.

•That's the right attitude! Washington ESD wants to see you're able and available for covered work. Your contracting skills would probably translate well to a marketing or communications role.

Hope it works out for you! The system definitely isn't perfect for people with non-traditional work histories, but finding those W-2 wages might be your solution. Keep us posted on how the reapplication goes.
