Social Security payment arrived 20 days early - is this an error or problem?

This happened to me last year! I got an early deposit and freaked out thinking they'd realize their mistake and I'd owe it back. Turns out my regular payment date fell on a weekend the next month, so they sent it early. Check if your normal payment date next month lands on a weekend or holiday - that's probably the reason. Is the amount exactly the same as your normal benefit? Or is it slightly different? Sometimes they do adjustments and backpay but it's unusual to not get any notice about it.

Be careful!!! I had this happen and spent the $$ and then they said I owed it all back!!! SS DOES MAKE MISTAKES and then WE pay the price. Call them NOW before spending anything!! The SS system is so broken.
