Can't find my Social Security benefits application status - applied for Feb 2025 payment
I'm pretty sure I submitted my application for Social Security retirement benefits several months ago with a start date of February 2025, but now I can't find any confirmation or status update anywhere in my account. When I log into my MySocialSecurity account, I don't see anything indicating I've applied. No emails, no letters in the mail - nothing! Should I see something specific in my account that shows my application is pending? Where exactly should I look? Also confused about Medicare - I definitely enrolled in Part A and currently have coverage through my employer that's considered creditable. But again, I don't see anything in my account confirming this. Are these confirmations in different places? Getting worried that something went wrong with both applications!

Log into your MySocialSecurity account and check under the 'Benefits & Payments' section. There should be an 'Application Status' tab where any pending applications will show up. I had the same panic a few months ago, but it was actually right there! For Medicare, you should have received a Medicare card in the mail if you enrolled in Part A successfully. It typically arrives within 30 days of applying. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE to verify your enrollment status. If you don't see anything in your online account, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an SSA agent quickly. I was on hold for hours trying to confirm my application status, but with Claimyr I got through in minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Z-BRbJw3puU. Saved me a ton of stress when I was worried about my application.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I looked under 'Benefits & Payments' but don't see any 'Application Status' tab. There's just information about my estimated benefits if I were to apply at different ages. Nothing about a pending application. That's what's making me think maybe it didn't go through properly? I'll check out that Claimyr service - at this point I just need to talk to someone to make sure everything's on track for February.

dont worry too much, ssa is really slow with updating the online stuff. i applied last yr and nothing showed up online for like 2 months, then suddenly everything appeared. as long as u got the confirmation number when u applied ur probably fine

•That's the problem - I can't remember if I got a confirmation number! I thought I wrote it down somewhere but can't find it. Do you remember how the confirmation appeared? Was it on screen or did they email it?

When you submit an application online for retirement benefits, you should receive: 1. An immediate confirmation page with a confirmation number (save/print this) 2. A confirmation email sent to the email address on your MySocialSecurity account 3. A status update in your MySocialSecurity account (though as others mentioned, this can take weeks to appear) 4. Eventually a letter in the mail confirming receipt of your application If you're not seeing anything in your account and received no confirmation email, there's a good chance your application wasn't completed or submitted successfully. Technical glitches happen frequently with the SSA site. Regarding Medicare Part A - if you applied and were approved, you should have received a Medicare card in the mail. Your Medicare information also won't necessarily show in your MySocialSecurity account right away. I'd recommend reapplying immediately if you can't find any evidence of your original application. February 2025 is still far enough away that a new application should be processed in time, especially if you've already reached your Full Retirement Age (FRA).

•This is terrible advice! DO NOT reapply without checking with SSA first!! If the original application IS in their system, a second application can cause MAJOR problems and delays!!! The systems get confused when there are duplicate applications and it can take MONTHS to untangle!!!

The previous commenter is correct - don't submit a new application until you've verified whether your first one was processed. Here's what you should do: 1. Check your email thoroughly (including spam/junk folders) for any SSA confirmations 2. Look for any physical mail from SSA that might have come in the last few months 3. Contact SSA directly to verify if you have a pending application For the fastest verification, you have three options: - Visit your local SSA office in person (make an appointment online first) - Call the main number (1-800-772-1213) very early in the morning - Use a service like Claimyr to connect with an agent without the typical 1-2 hour wait FYI - When I applied for my retirement benefits last year, the online confirmation was very subtle. My application didn't show in my online account for almost 6 weeks, but it was in their system the whole time. Don't panic yet!

•Thank you for the detailed advice. I've already checked all my emails (including junk) and have no physical mail from SSA about this. I think I'll try to call them directly tomorrow morning. If that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr service or just go to my local office. I just don't want to mess anything up for my February start date!

My sister had this exact problem!! She thought she applied but nothing showed up in her account. Turns out she started the application but never finished the last page with the submit button! She had to start all over again and lost 2 months of benefits because of it. Check your account realllllly carefully!

•Oh no! That's exactly what I'm worried about. I remember going through several screens, but now I'm questioning if I actually hit that final submit button. I think I did, but without a confirmation number I just don't know for sure.

Is anyone else having trouble with the SSA website constantly crashing? I've been trying to check my application status for DAYS and the site either loads forever or gives me error messages. So frustrating!!!

•YES! Their website is TERRIBLE! I've found it works better very early in the morning or late at night when fewer people are using it. Also works better on Chrome than Firefox in my experience.

Update on my earlier comment - I just wanted to clarify that the Claimyr service I mentioned isn't free, but for me it was worth it to avoid hours of waiting on hold. When I called the regular SSA number myself, I got disconnected twice after waiting over an hour each time. With Claimyr I was talking to an actual SSA representative in about 10 minutes. They just connect you directly to SSA - you still talk to the official SSA agents who can look up your specific information.

•Thanks for the clarification. At this point, I'd rather pay something than waste hours on hold or risk missing my February start date. I'll try the regular number once, but if that doesn't work, I'll definitely consider using that service.

One important thing to note about applying for benefits with a future start date (like your February 2025): SSA typically doesn't process these applications immediately. They often place them in a pending queue and only begin processing them 3-4 months before your chosen start date. This might explain why you're not seeing confirmation yet. However, you should have still received an initial acknowledgment when you submitted the application. Regarding Medicare Part A - this is handled somewhat separately from retirement benefits. You should have received a Medicare card in the mail within a month of approval. If you haven't, that's another indication something might have gone wrong with your applications. I strongly recommend calling SSA directly at this point to verify both application statuses.

•That's really helpful to know about the future start date processing. But it sounds like I still should have gotten some kind of initial confirmation even if they're not actively processing it yet. I'm definitely going to call them tomorrow morning to check on both applications.

just wanted to add that when i finally got thru to someone at ssa, they told me sometimes the online account doesnt show pending applications for technical reasons but that doesnt mean the application isnt in their system. only way to know for sure is call or visit office

•That's somewhat reassuring. I guess there's still hope my application went through even if it's not showing online. I'll definitely call to confirm.

I work at a local SSA field office and see this situation frequently. Here's what likely happened and what you should do: 1. **Most common scenario**: You started the online application but didn't complete the final submission step. The SSA website saves partial applications for 30 days, so you might still be able to log in and finish it if it was recent. 2. **Check for saved applications**: In your MySocialSecurity account, look for a "Continue Application" or "Saved Applications" section. If your partial application is there, you can complete it. 3. **Timeline concern**: Don't panic about February 2025. You can apply up to 4 months before your desired start date, so you still have time even if you need to start over. 4. **Medicare Part A**: This is automatically processed when you apply for retirement benefits if you're 65+. No separate application needed in most cases. **Next steps**: Call 1-800-772-1213 between 8-9 AM for shortest wait times. Have your Social Security number and birth date ready. The representative can immediately tell you if there's ANY application on file for you. If nothing exists in their system, you'll need to reapply, but you're not too late for your February 2025 start date.

•This is incredibly helpful - thank you for the insider perspective! I just logged back into my MySocialSecurity account and looked more carefully. I found a "Continue Application" section that I somehow missed before, and there's a partially completed retirement benefits application from a few months ago! It looks like I got to the very last page but never hit the final submit button. I'm going to complete it right now. This explains why I had no confirmation - the application was never actually submitted. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain this!

As someone who went through this exact same situation last year, I can tell you this is more common than you'd think! The good news is that if you found your partially completed application in the "Continue Application" section, you're definitely not too late for your February 2025 start date. A few important reminders as you complete the application: - Make sure to save/screenshot the final confirmation page with your confirmation number - Check that the email address in your MySocialSecurity account is correct so you receive the confirmation email - Don't close your browser until you see the "Application Successfully Submitted" message For Medicare Part A, once you complete your retirement benefits application, Medicare enrollment should be processed automatically if you're 65 or older. You should receive your Medicare card in the mail within 3-4 weeks of your application being processed. If you run into any technical issues while trying to complete the application (the SSA website can be finicky), try using a different browser or clearing your cache. Sometimes switching from mobile to desktop helps too. Best of luck finishing your application!

•This is such great advice, especially about saving the confirmation page! I just went through a similar experience where I thought I had applied but couldn't find any record of it. Turns out I had also stopped just before the final submission step. The SSA website really should make it clearer when you haven't actually completed the process - it's so easy to think you're done when you're not. I'm glad to hear this is a common issue and not just user error on my part. Thanks for sharing your experience and the practical tips about different browsers and taking screenshots. It's reassuring to know others have successfully navigated this same situation!

Just wanted to add another perspective as someone who recently went through the Social Security application process. If you do find that your application wasn't completed and need to start fresh, don't stress too much about the timing. I applied in November for a February start date and everything went smoothly. One tip that helped me: when I called SSA to verify my application status, I found that calling right at 8:00 AM sharp gave me the shortest wait time. I literally called the second they opened and got through in about 15 minutes instead of the usual hour+ wait. Also, regarding Medicare Part A - if you're still working and have employer coverage, make sure to inform SSA about your current coverage when you complete your application. This ensures there's no confusion about your Medicare enrollment timing and helps avoid any potential gaps or overlaps in coverage. Good luck getting everything sorted out! The fact that others found their partial applications in the "Continue Application" section gives me hope that yours might be there too.

•Thank you for sharing your experience and the great tip about calling right at 8 AM! That's really helpful to know. I'm feeling much more optimistic after reading everyone's responses, especially knowing that others have found their partial applications. It sounds like this incomplete application issue is surprisingly common with the SSA website. I really appreciate you mentioning the Medicare Part A detail about employer coverage too - I do still have employer insurance so I'll make sure to note that when I complete the application. It's reassuring to hear that November to February timing worked well for you. Thanks for taking the time to share these practical tips!

I had a very similar experience about 6 months ago! I was convinced I had submitted my retirement benefits application but couldn't find any trace of it anywhere. After reading through all these responses, I decided to check that "Continue Application" section that Natasha mentioned, and sure enough - there was my partially completed application just sitting there waiting for me to finish it. The SSA website really needs to do a better job of making it clear when you haven't actually submitted an application. It's so easy to think you're done when you've just saved a draft. I ended up completing my application and got my confirmation number within minutes. One thing I'd add - when you do find and complete your application, make sure to check your spam folder for the confirmation email. Mine ended up there for some reason, which caused me additional panic until I found it. Also, print or save a PDF of that final confirmation page immediately. I learned the hard way that you can't always go back and retrieve it later. The good news is you still have plenty of time for a February 2025 start date. Even if you need to start completely over, you're well within the application window. Don't stress too much - this seems to happen to a lot of people based on what I'm reading here!

•This thread has been so helpful! I'm dealing with this exact same situation right now. I was getting really worried that I had somehow missed applying for my Social Security benefits, but after reading everyone's experiences, I'm realizing this incomplete application issue is way more common than I thought. The SSA website definitely needs better user experience design - it should be crystal clear when you haven't actually submitted something! I'm going to check that "Continue Application" section as soon as I get home. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories and tips, especially about calling at 8 AM sharp and checking spam folders. It's such a relief to know I'm not the only one who got confused by this process!

I'm going through something very similar right now! Reading through all these responses has been incredibly reassuring. I was convinced I had submitted my application months ago but couldn't find any confirmation anywhere. Like many others here, I think I probably got to the final page but never actually hit submit. The tip about checking the "Continue Application" section is gold - I never would have thought to look there. It makes so much sense that the SSA website would save partial applications, but they really should make it more obvious when something is just saved versus actually submitted. For anyone else dealing with this, I'd also recommend taking screenshots of EVERY page as you go through the application process, not just the final confirmation. That way if something goes wrong or you get logged out, you have a record of what you've already completed. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it's clear this is a much more common issue than it should be!

•I'm so glad this thread exists! I've been lurking here for a while as I navigate my own Social Security application process, and seeing everyone's similar experiences is incredibly comforting. The idea of taking screenshots of every page is brilliant - I wish I had thought of that when I started my application a few weeks ago. I ended up getting nervous halfway through and closing my browser, and now I'm not sure if anything was saved or if I need to start completely over. Based on what everyone is saying about the "Continue Application" section, I'm going to check there first before panicking. It's honestly shocking how many people have had this same experience with incomplete applications. You'd think SSA would have figured out by now that their website is causing mass confusion! Thank you to everyone who has shared their stories and tips - this community is such a valuable resource for navigating these confusing government processes.

I just want to echo what everyone else is saying about how common this incomplete application issue seems to be! As a newcomer to this community, I'm both relieved and frustrated to see so many people have had the exact same experience with the SSA website. After reading through all these responses, it's clear that the "Continue Application" section should be the first place anyone in this situation checks. It sounds like the SSA website saves partial applications but does a terrible job of making users aware when they haven't actually submitted anything. For those who found their partial applications and completed them - did you end up receiving your confirmation emails and seeing the application status update in your accounts afterward? I'm curious how long it took for everything to show up properly once the application was actually submitted. This thread has been incredibly helpful for understanding that this isn't just user error but seems to be a systemic issue with how the SSA website handles the application process. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and tips!

•Welcome to the community! As someone new here myself, I can definitely relate to the relief of finding so many others with the same SSA website struggles. To answer your question about timing - when I finally found and completed my partial application last week, I got the confirmation email within about 10 minutes, and it showed up in my regular inbox (not spam). The application status appeared in my MySocialSecurity account about 2-3 days later under a "Pending Applications" section that wasn't there before. So once it's actually submitted properly, things seem to move pretty quickly on their end. It's just that initial submission step that's so problematic with their website design! Hopefully your situation gets resolved just as smoothly when you check that "Continue Application" section.

As someone who's helped family members navigate SSA applications, I can confirm this is unfortunately a very common issue! The website's interface makes it way too easy to think you've submitted when you've only saved a draft. Before calling SSA or using any paid services, definitely check that "Continue Application" section that others mentioned - I'd say there's about a 70% chance your application is sitting there waiting to be completed based on what I've seen. If you do find it there, here's a pro tip: complete the application during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) when the website is more stable. I've seen people lose their progress when the site crashes during busy periods. Also, regarding your Medicare concern - if you're under 65, you won't automatically get Medicare Part A just for applying for Social Security retirement benefits. You'd need to be 65+ or qualify due to disability. If you're already 65+, then yes, Part A enrollment should happen automatically once your retirement application is processed. The fact that you remember going through multiple screens is a good sign - you probably did get very close to completion. Don't stress about the February 2025 timing; you're still well within the application window even if you need to restart completely.

•This is such valuable insight, especially the clarification about Medicare Part A eligibility! I hadn't realized that being under 65 would mean no automatic Medicare enrollment with retirement benefits. That actually explains why I'm not seeing any Medicare confirmation - I'm applying for early retirement at 62, so I wouldn't qualify for Medicare Part A yet anyway. Your tip about completing the application during off-peak hours is really smart too. I've definitely experienced that website crashing during what I assume were busy periods. It's frustrating that we have to work around their technical limitations, but at least knowing the best times to use the site can prevent losing progress. Thanks for the realistic percentage estimate about finding applications in the "Continue Application" section - 70% odds gives me hope! I'm planning to check first thing tomorrow morning during those off-peak hours you mentioned. Really appreciate you sharing your experience helping family members with this process!

As a newcomer to this community, I'm amazed by how helpful everyone has been in this thread! I'm actually going through a very similar situation right now - I thought I had applied for Social Security retirement benefits a few months back but can't find any trace of it in my MySocialSecurity account. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly eye-opening. It sounds like the incomplete application issue is practically an epidemic with the SSA website! The tip about checking the "Continue Application" section is something I never would have thought to look for. I'm particularly grateful for the clarification about Medicare Part A eligibility - I had no idea that applying for early retirement at 62 wouldn't automatically trigger Medicare enrollment. That explains why I wasn't seeing any Medicare-related confirmations either. For anyone else dealing with this, it's so reassuring to know we're not alone in getting confused by the SSA website's poor user experience. The fact that so many people have successfully found and completed their partial applications gives me hope that mine might be waiting there too. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and practical tips - from calling at 8 AM sharp to taking screenshots of every page. •Welcome to the community, Ava! I'm also new here and found myself in almost the exact same boat just a few weeks ago. It's both comforting and concerning how widespread this SSA website issue seems to be! Like you, I was completely unaware of the Medicare Part A age requirement - that clarification from Diego really helped explain why those of us applying for early retirement aren't seeing Medicare confirmations. I actually just went through the process of finding my partial application in that "Continue Application" section everyone mentioned, and it was indeed there waiting for me! The relief was incredible. Following the advice from this thread, I completed it during off-peak hours (around 7 AM) and made sure to screenshot every single page, especially that final confirmation. One thing I'd add - when you do find and complete your application, double-check that all your personal information is exactly as it appears on your Social Security card. I almost missed a small discrepancy in my name that could have caused delays. This community really is amazing for navigating these confusing government processes. Best of luck when you check that "Continue Application" section - I have a feeling yours will be there too!

So I helped my mom apply, we finished the application and have a confirmation number & email saying she completed it but there is nothing on her my social security account saying she sent an application. After reading this thread I checked to see if maybe somehow we didn’t finish but theres no continue application either. I can’t find any status update on her application. It was sent at the end of September. I know social security is backed up a bunch, could that be why we can’t find anything? There’s nothing reflecting an application was sent except the confirmation number & email she has.

If you have a confirmation number and confirmation email, then your mom's application was definitely submitted successfully! This is actually a different situation from what most people in this thread are experiencing (incomplete applications). What you're seeing is unfortunately normal - even with a properly submitted application, it can take 6-12 weeks before anything shows up in the MySocialSecurity account online. The SSA's internal processing systems and their online portal don't sync up immediately. Since you applied at the end of September, you're still within the normal timeframe for processing. The confirmation number is the most important thing - that's proof the application is in their system. If you want peace of mind, you can call 1-800-772-1213 and provide the confirmation number to verify the application status. The phone representative will be able to see it in their system even if it's not showing online yet. Don't worry - having the confirmation number and email means you're all set. The online account status will eventually catch up, but the processing is happening behind the scenes regardless of what you can see online.
