PA UC weekly claim form suddenly has different questions - did anyone else notice changes?

I've been filing my weekly UC claims for about 2 months now and it's always been the same basic 4-5 questions. This morning I logged in to file and the form looked completely different with like 10+ questions I've never seen before! Some were about job contacts (which I thought we only had to report if asked?) and others about availability that were worded in a really confusing way. Did PA change their weekly claim form overnight? Has anyone else experienced this change today? I'm worried about answering something wrong and getting my benefits delayed. I took screenshots just in case but I'm not sure if I should just answer everything or try calling them first.

Yes! I noticed this too when filing yesterday. The PA UC system appears to have updated the weekly certification process to include more detailed questions about work search activities. This is actually part of the regular PA requirements - you need to complete and document at least two work search activities per week. The system now asks you to report these directly during your weekly filing rather than just keeping records for if they ask later. They've also added more specific questions about availability and ability to work. Make sure you answer everything truthfully, but don't panic about the change. It's just a more detailed version of what you were supposed to be doing anyway.

Thanks for confirming I'm not going crazy! I've been keeping track of my job applications in a spreadsheet, but I wasn't expecting to have to enter them each week. Do you know if this is permanent or just some kind of random audit?

The UC office rarely provides advance notice of system changes. It's frustrating but pretty typical of how they operate. Just make sure you're documenting all your work search activities going forward.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!! First they make us wait MONTHS for payments with no explanation, then they change the entire system with ZERO notice!!! I bet this is just another trick to deny people benefits. I answered everything honestly but now I'm paranoid they'll use these new questions to disqualify me somehow. The PA unemployment system is DESIGNED to be confusing!!!

Calm down, it's just a form update. As long as you're doing the work search requirements it shouldn't affect anything. People always freaking out over nothing lol

I had this happen last weekend. The system now requires you to enter your work search activities directly during the weekly certification process. Make sure you have the following information ready before filing: 1. Employer names and contact information 2. Dates you applied or contacted employers 3. Method of contact (online, phone, in-person) 4. Type of work you applied for You still need at least two work search activities per week. The change is likely permanent as PA UC is trying to improve their verification process. Just be honest and you'll be fine.

That's super helpful, thank you! I didn't have all that info handy when I was filing so I had to stop and go find it. Wish they would've sent an email or something letting us know about the change.

They definitely just changed it. I filed yesterday morning and it was the old form, then my husband filed last night and got the new one. Seems like they updated it sometime Sunday.

If you're having trouble reaching someone at the unemployment office to ask about these changes, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was stuck in a similar situation last month where my claim suddenly had new requirements and couldn't get through on the phone for days. Claimyr helped me connect with an actual PA UC agent within about 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent explained that system updates happen periodically and confirmed I was completing the form correctly. Saved me a ton of stress!

Thanks for the tip! I might try that service if I run into any problems. For now I guess I'll just fill out the new form and hope for the best.

i think they changing things cuz of all the fraud going on. my buddy works at a place that got a UC claim for someone who still works there full time! crazy stuff

That's a good point. The additional verification questions are likely part of their fraud prevention measures. It's unfortunate that legitimate claimants have to deal with more complexity, but it does help protect the system.

Update: I went ahead and completed the new form with all my work search info. It took about 10 extra minutes but went through fine. My claim status still shows as active and my payment is pending as normal. Looks like it's just a more detailed version of the same process.

Just wanted to add that I experienced the same thing when filing this week. The new form definitely caught me off guard at first, but I think it's actually better in the long run. Instead of wondering if you're doing enough for work search requirements, now you just report what you've done each week and know you're compliant. One tip: I started keeping a simple note on my phone with employer names, dates, and contact methods throughout the week so I don't have to scramble to remember everything when filing. Makes the process much smoother!

That's a really smart tip about keeping notes on your phone! I wish I had thought of that before filing. I ended up having to dig through my email and browser history to find all the application details. Definitely going to start tracking everything as I go from now on. Thanks for sharing that strategy!

Same thing happened to me on Sunday! I was so confused when I saw all those extra questions. I've been on UC for about 6 weeks and it was always just the basic questions about working, earning money, and being available. The new work search section threw me off completely - I had to go back and look up all my job applications from the past week because I wasn't expecting to need that info. Took me like 20 minutes longer than usual to complete. I'm glad to see from the comments that this seems to be a legitimate system update and not some kind of error. Still wish they would give people a heads up when they make these changes! At least now I know to keep better track of my job search activities going forward.

Exactly! The lack of advance notice is really frustrating. I had the same experience - went in expecting the usual 5-minute process and ended up spending way more time digging through my records. At least we're all in the same boat and it sounds like the system is working normally despite the changes. Hopefully they'll stick with this format now instead of surprising us with more updates!

I have had to answer the same question over and over and over. Who do I work for? When did you work for this employer? How much do you earn for a quarter? How much do you earn per bi-weekly? How much do you earn weekly? How many hours did you work? I've worked for one employer in the past 18 years I should not need to put in the same employer at least four times. I have no idea how many times it would ask because I finally just closed the browser session and turn my tablet off.

Wow, I'm so relieved to find this thread! I had the exact same experience yesterday when filing my weekly claim. I've been on UC for about a month and was totally blindsided by all the new questions. The work search section was particularly confusing - I had been keeping a basic list of where I applied but didn't have all the detailed contact info and specific dates they were asking for. Had to dig through my email and LinkedIn messages to piece everything together. What really got me was the availability questions that were worded so differently from before. I must have read them three times each to make sure I was answering correctly. The whole process took me almost 45 minutes instead of the usual 5-10 minutes. Thanks to everyone who confirmed this is a legitimate system update and shared tips about keeping better records. I'm definitely going to start tracking all my job search details more systematically from now on. Just wish PA UC would send out notifications before making these kinds of changes!

I had the EXACT same experience! Filed yesterday and was so confused when I saw all those new questions. I've been on UC for about 7 weeks and it was always just the basic 5 questions. The work search section really caught me off guard - I had my applications written down but not in the detailed format they wanted. Had to scramble to find employer contact info and specific dates. The whole thing took me like 30 minutes longer than usual. Really wish they'd give us a heads up before making these changes, but at least it sounds like everyone's claims are still processing normally despite the new format.

This happened to me too when I filed on Monday! I've been collecting UC for about 3 months and was completely caught off guard by all the new questions. Like others mentioned, I had to go back and gather all my job search details - employer contact info, exact dates, methods of contact, etc. What helped me was realizing this is probably the new normal, so I've started using a simple spreadsheet to track everything as I go. I include columns for company name, contact person, phone/email, date applied, position title, and how I applied (online, email, etc.). Makes filing so much easier when you have everything organized ahead of time. The good news is my payment went through normally despite the new format, so it seems like it's just a more detailed version of the same process. Still frustrating they didn't warn us about the change though!

That spreadsheet idea is brilliant! I wish I had thought of that before dealing with this change. I ended up frantically searching through my browser history and email to find all the details they wanted. Your column setup sounds perfect - I'm definitely going to create something similar for next week's filing. It's crazy how much more organized we all have to be now, but at least it sounds like the payments are still processing normally. Thanks for sharing that tip!

I just filed yesterday and ran into the same thing! I've been on UC for about 8 weeks and was totally unprepared for all the new questions. The work search section definitely took me by surprise - I had to dig through my Indeed account and email to find all the employer details they wanted. One thing that helped me was realizing I could save my progress and come back to finish later if needed. I noticed there's a "save and continue later" option now that wasn't there before. So if anyone gets overwhelmed like I did, you don't have to rush through everything in one sitting. My claim went through fine and my payment is showing as normal, so it seems like it's just a more detailed version of what we were already supposed to be doing. Still would have been nice to get some advance notice though! Now I'm keeping a running note in my phone with all my job search details so I'm ready for next week.
