CONNECT system change? No work search inputs after claiming weeks on DEO website

Has anyone else noticed a weird change on the Florida DEO CONNECT system this week? I just claimed my weeks and something's different. After answering the usual 9-10 questions (about looking for work, refusing work, etc.), it didn't take me to the usual screen where you have to enter 5 work search activities. It just went straight to the submit button! I'm getting nervous because I know DEO is super strict about work search requirements. Did they change the system again? Are they no longer requiring the 5 job contacts per week? I don't want to get hit with an overpayment notice later because I didn't enter my job searches. Has anyone else experienced this change? I swear they update this website without telling anyone... so frustrating!

OMG yes this happened to me yesterday!!! I thought it was just glitching or something! I even logged out and tried again but same thing - just the regular questions and then submit. No place to enter work searches anywhere. I took screenshots just in case they try to say I didn't do my work searches later.

Thanks for confirming I'm not going crazy! Did you submit your claim anyway? I'm worried about doing that without being able to document my work searches in the system.

This is probably related to the CONNECT system update they announced last month. According to the DEO website, they're rolling out changes in phases. The work search requirement hasn't changed - Florida still requires 5 work search activities per week - but they may be changing how/when you report them. I'd recommend keeping detailed records of all your work searches (date, employer name, position, contact method, etc.) until they clarify the new process. You should still be doing the work searches even if the system isn't prompting you to enter them right now.

That makes sense! I wish they would communicate these changes better. I've been keeping a spreadsheet of all my job applications anyway, so I have records. Just didn't want to get in trouble for not reporting them in the system.

Just make sure you're still completing and documenting your 5 work search activities each week, even if the system isn't asking for them right now. Take screenshots of confirmation emails from job applications as proof.

The DEO is absolutely USELESS at communicating changes! I've been on Florida unemployment three separate times and EVERY TIME they make random updates to the system without proper notification. This is how people end up with overpayments and disqualifications! They expect us to follow rules that change constantly without telling us. I'm still doing my 5 job searches and keeping detailed records, but I bet they'll find some way to mess up our payments over this. CONNECT is the most broken system I've ever seen!

This happened to me last week too, but I called DEO to ask about it (took forever to get through, of course). The agent told me they're updating the work search reporting process. You should still be doing your 5 work searches per week, but they're temporarily not requiring them to be entered during the weekly claim process. The agent said they'll either be switching to random audits or implementing a new monthly reporting system. Keep detailed records of all your work searches - date, company, position, application method, etc. - because they may request this information later.

Thank you so much for this info! How did you manage to get through to a real person at DEO? Every time I call, I get disconnected after waiting on hold for an hour.

I used a service called Claimyr to get through to DEO. It basically holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. Worth it to get actual answers from DEO instead of guessing what's happening with the system changes.

just wondering but are u on regular unemployment or some special extension? Because i claimed yesterday and still had to enter all 5 work searches like normal

I'm on regular RA benefits, not an extension. That's weird that you still had the work search screen and I didn't. Maybe they're rolling out changes to different accounts gradually?

that makes sense, they always do weird rollouts. my friend had the new connect login page for like 2 weeks before i got it

Just to update everyone - DEO posted an announcement about this on their website today. They ARE changing the work search reporting process. You still need to complete 5 work search activities per week, but they're moving to a new system where they'll randomly select claimants for work search verification rather than having everyone enter them each time. Keep detailed records of ALL your work searches because they can request them at any time. If you can't provide proof when asked, you could be disqualified and have to repay benefits.

Thank you for the update! That explains everything. I'll definitely keep detailed records of all my work searches in case I get selected for verification.

when I was on unemployment last year my cousin told me you don't really have to do the job searches they never check anyway lol but maybe with this new system they actually will check??

This is absolutely incorrect and dangerous advice. DEO does conduct audits and can request work search verification at any time, even months after you've received benefits. If you can't provide evidence, you'll be hit with an overpayment notice and have to pay everything back. Always complete your required work searches and keep documentation.

Has anyone noticed any other changes to the CONNECT system lately? I feel like the payment processing is taking longer too since these updates started...

YES! My payment that normally hits my account on Wednesday is still pending! Everything about this system is a disaster right now.
